25.01.2022 Oh hey sorry it’s been a few days! We’ve been very busy, seeing patients as usual, running training sessions for clinics and catching up on reports. But we’re happy to know that while we’re busy working, our patients are chillin’! Here’s the gorgeous Kellie modelling our cardiac mattress for us

25.01.2022 I think I need bigger magnets for the bigger car?! Thoughts...?

25.01.2022 One of the things we love about our job is that we see something new and lots of interesting things every day! We’ll always do your best to provide the most comprehensive reports that we can, and if that means doing some extra reading or seeking specialist advice, that’s exactly what we’ll do Working hard to get all of yesterday’s reports out to clinics today! Keep an eye on those inboxes and have a lovely Sunday

25.01.2022 For the first time in 13 months... Dr Lou is taking a short break! For this week and next week, we’ll be unavailable for ultrasounds while we have a little rest and recuperation, and while Dr Lou is reunited with her partner for the first time since January We thank you all for your support that has got us to this point - you are very much appreciated You’ll find us at the AVA conference next Saturday 14th October - we hope to see you there!

24.01.2022 Uh oh... We were so busy yesterday we didn’t get a chance to post this as promised BUT - we can now announce the WINNERS of our competition played at our first year celebration To win, they had to guess what the following still images represented. They are:... 1. Gallbladder with inspissated bile 2. A very large thrombus in the vena cava (but points for anyone who thought this was an adrenal mass!) 3. A straight foreign body in a loop of jejunum 4. A VERY abnormal tricuspid valve (points if you said any heart valve ) The person who came closest to these answers, and WINNER of the FREE PRO BONO SCAN from the party on 9th October is... Shannon Page from the RSPCA WA! Magda Upton from Warwick Veterinary Hospital won the online competition, with an almost full house of correct answers! Congratulations- you’ve won a FREE 1 hour ultrasound training session! And last but not least, the award for the most entertaining answer goes to... Foothills Animal Hospital-WA (for neonatal alien ... Q1) and we’ll be in touch to let you know your prize Thanks for playing along

24.01.2022 For those who tell me they can never see a normal pancreas on ultrasound... here’s some practice! There are 7 people and a cat in this pic... can you find them all?!

24.01.2022 It’s been a busy Saturday on the road so far! Dr Lou has already travelled over 150km to see patients who needed ultrasound today, and still has more to see this afternoon and evening. Whatever the weather, we’re here to provide the care your patients need #ultrasound #vet #emergencies #weekend #working

24.01.2022 Can you see the stone? This video shows us following a mildly dilated ureter until we reach the calculus that obstructs it... and along the way there’s another thing one [second part of the clip is zoomed in.... so keep watching] - and keep your eye on the arrow at the end!

23.01.2022 Working the weekends means we get to help gorgeous patients like this guy get the right treatment as soon as possible, rather than having to wait for diagnostics

22.01.2022 Vets, Vet Students and VNs - if you’re registered for Boehringer’s Animal Health Academy online, you’ll have received an email this morning with a link to a several useful resources, including our ultrasound videos! They’re both short (less than 10 mins) but we hope you’ll find them useful. If you’re not registered for the Academy - it’s easy! Just get in touch with me or your local Boehringer Rep for a code to register

22.01.2022 The face of a sonographer after a busy public holiday weekend!! We’re proud to say that as the only service provider on Sundays and public holidays, we’ve managed to help a number of patients over the last few days, that otherwise would have had to wait for diagnostics until at least Tuesday. This means better formulated treatment plans and reduced time to discharge from hospital, less stress for patients and saving clients money overall. That’s why we love being there when you need us most Now time to work on the reports so we can get those out to clinics ASAP!

22.01.2022 Friends of ImagingFirst... Dr Lou is moving house, and we have a new postal address! Any written correspondence can now be sent to: ImagingFirst PO Box 820 South Fremantle... WA 6162 We’ll be unavailable for scans from Saturday 13th - Sunday 21st Feb, but will still be on hand for advice calls, help with radiographic interpretation, and to make bookings for 22nd onwards thanks for your understanding during this busy time

19.01.2022 How cute is this little lady? She had her heart scan with us yesterday, to make sure that her vets could plan her anaesthetic for dental work to be as safe as possible We found that she has Stage B2 mitral Valve Disease, so she’ll benefit from some medication, but isn’t in heart failure and a suitable anaesthetic plan can be made for her to have the work she needs

19.01.2022 We go to great lengths to deliver you our comprehensive reports as soon as we can. Whether it’s working til late after a full day out scanning, or getting them done in the car between calls or scheduled visits, you can be sure that we’ll do everything we can to continue to bring you the same quality of service, regardless of how busy we are #mobile #vet #sonographer #reports #nocompromises

17.01.2022 Most of the time we are asked to scan hearts and abdomens. But occasionally, we’ll also be asked to scan lumps to see if they communicate with underlying tissue (I.e. the abdomen, thorax, or perhaps muscle or tendon). In this case, we scanned a new lump on the patient’s side... and luck luckily the body wall was visible in all planes. Ultrasound appearance and aspirate were consistent with an abscess, which meant that his vet could plan appropriate treatment and surgery

17.01.2022 When your patients are bigger than you are, but they’re really happy that you’ve got a giant scanning mattress and can have a comfy snooze during their ultrasound! #ultrasound #vet #saintbernard #giant #comfy #snooze

17.01.2022 Adrenal tumours: benign or malignant? Adrenal nodules and masses are not an uncommon finding in canine patients, with differentials including hyperplastic nodules, adenomas, and myelolipomas (benign) as well adenocarcinomas and phaeochromocytomas (malignant). It is sometimes not possible to distinguish a benign vs malignant lesion, but there are some features that can differentiate the two. This video shows an adrenal tumour invading the phrenicoadbominal vein and caudal vena cava, a feature of malignancy. To find out more about other features of adrenal changes, check out this really useful article from Today’s Veterinary Practice: https://todaysveterinarypractice.com/imaging-essentialsult/

15.01.2022 We’ve detailed a few case examples in our new blog this week! You’ll find cases like this: a 10yo female dog who was showing signs of heat despite being spayed 8 years ago... these pics show the ovarian remnant, which had formed a Granulosa cell tumour, and a stump pyometra. She underwent surgery to remove the remnant and stump, and never had to leave her primary care vet clinic for any of her diagnostics or surgery. That’s why we love bringing our service to you. 15.01.2022 In my latest blog post I thought it would be useful to highlight some of the common scenarios when ultrasound might be a useful option to include in your investigation pathway. Check it out here: https://imagingfirst.com.au/news/

09.01.2022 Helping patients on the weekends is something we’ve been proud to do for the last 15 months - even though that sometimes that means rocking up in weekend attire en route to somewhere! (The patients don’t care, and we are just happy to help) We are sorry not to be able to offer weekend services at the moment, but we’ll always offer the first next available appointment and do our best to help you as much as we can over the phone Have a lovely weekend, and we’ll see you soon!

08.01.2022 SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT While we continue to offer all in-clinic services as normal, given recent advice from the government regarding COVID-19, we will be temporarily suspending services offered at home to reduce interaction with members of the public. We are also introducing increased heightened disinfection regimes, to include disinfection of scanning mattresses, carry cases, external surface of the machine and probes, etc, at the START AND END of each and every clinic visit.... If there are any additional precautions you would like us to take at your clinic, and/or if you can provide PPE for your premises, we will be happy to oblige in any way. We also encourage the presence of minimal staff in the scanning room during the examination. Lastly, we understand that this is an anxious time for us all, and that in particular many clients will be facing significant financial hardship. We remain committed to doing everything we can to provide a service to all animals. Therefore, if you have a patient that requires an ultrasound due to severe illness, or potentially requires life-saving surgery but are limited by cost constraints, please call us to discuss and we will do our best to help in some way. Thank you for your ongoing support of ImagingFirst. We hope that you all remain safe and well over the coming weeks, and we look forward to working with you as much as possible during this period. Kindest regards, Lou

08.01.2022 Happy Monday!!

07.01.2022 Heads up, friends! We already have a pretty full diary for today and tomorrow! Dr Lou is out on the road solo today, north of the river until lunchtime and then South in the afternoon... and on Friday both Dr and Jamie will be out predominantly South of the River BUT... since Jamie has found himself an awesome new job doing what he does best (in sports education ), he’ll be with us much less from now on SO - If you a) need a patient seeing urgently or b) you’re just desperate to find a reason to make sure you see Jamie’s big grin one last time, give us a call and we’ll do our very best to squeeze you in

04.01.2022 No two patients are the same one of the best things about what we do is meeting so many awesome animals every day

02.01.2022 Identifying lesions in patients with pericardial effusion (PE) is highly important, as the option and prognosis varies greatly for the different underlying causes of PE. Normally, we are looking for tumours at the heart base - but here’s a case we saw last week with the mass in the left ventricular wall! If you watch closely, you can see where part of the tumour is loose and protruding into the pericardium surrounding it.

02.01.2022 When you’re caught snuggling patients post-scan Thanks for the sneaky snap Paris Dee

01.01.2022 Did you know that we occasionally scan exotic pets, too?! within the last month we’ve scanned a few bunnies and a guinea pig, which allowed their vets to make a treatment plan (and even surgery in one case!). There’s a lot for us to learn about these gorgeous creatures, but we are always trying to find ways to help your pets of all shapes and sizes
