22.01.2022 I was lucky enough to experience some time out in the Hills Shire's beautiful Cumberland State Forest on Sunday. For anyone in NSW Australia, near Pennant Hills, I highly recommend a visit to this park. One of the walking tracks is the 'sensory trail' that includes instructions every few metres on how to participate in forest bathing. For example, "feel the bark on this tree. Is it rough or smooth? Does it feel the same as the bark on the next tree?" During my time there, noticing the beauty around me, I found leaves shaped like butterflies, and took a moment to stop and observe this for what it was, and reflect on the beauty. I also engaged in bird watching throughout my walks - a favourite mindfulness activity of mine!

If we are listening to respond, we are not being mindful. 3 things you can immediately start doing to be more mindful with your communication are: 1. Pause and breathe before responding 2. Reflect back to the person you are talking to what they have just told you, in your own words 3. Be mindful of where you are having conversations. The places we choose to have conversations can impact our mental states and therefore the outcome of the chat.

05.01.2022 The spaces we create for ourselves has a huge impact on our mood. If we ruminate on negativity and exist in a cluttered, unmotivated space, we are likely to stay that way. Clear your clutter to automatically clear your head space - set up a space for regular exercise, meditation or yoga, etc. Your mood and health will instantly be lifted, and you will find that you now want to operate from this new space.

03.01.2022 So many people are saying now "if only I'd known how bad this year would be, I would have been more grateful for..." But anything could happen at any moment - the trick is to be grateful for all we have, every day. Nothing will be the same next year, or the year after that, and so on. So be grateful for what you have today, for what this year has brought us and taught us.
