21.01.2022 Our officers have stopped a 21-year-old woman from importing four kilograms of meth into the country after foiling her attempts to conceal the substance in two ...portable cooktop stoves. Our officers selected the woman for a baggage examination and upon x-raying the stoves, discovered five packages containing a white crystalline substance. The woman was then referred to our colleagues at the Australian Federal Police who charged her with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug. It all boils down to this: the charge carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. That’s a lot of time to stew over her poor life decisions. Thanks to Australian Border Force, Parks Australia and Torres Strait Regional Authority for their ongoing efforts to detect and retrieve ghost nets. #WorldOceansDay
19.01.2022 We were incensed when we recently detected 3.8 tonnes of molasses tobacco concealed in packets of aromatherapy incense from the UAE. This was worth about $3.5 m...illion dollars in evaded revenue. The issue of illicit tobacco shouldn’t be underestimated we’re talking about hundreds of millions of dollars a year that is being defrauded from the Commonwealth to line the pockets of criminals. From 1 July, we will be leading the Illicit Tobacco Taskforce to combine our resources with the Department of Home Affairs, Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre, Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Australian Taxation Office to further target the criminals behind this international trade.
11.01.2022 ABF investigation churns out another arrest. A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Hobart after our investigators uncovered over 101 kilograms of ephedrine con...cealed in cow milking machines. X-ray screening revealed anomalies in the machines, and upon closer inspection, more than 60 foil packages containing ephedrine were revealed. The man was the third person to be arrested as part of our investigation, showing that some people really lactose common sense.
