25.01.2022 Giving doesnt always have to be about money, time or influence. One of the best gifts you can give is the gift of life. Every single donation can help change someones life. donateblood.com.au

25.01.2022 Today is simply a stunning day. Its not often that it is 25 degrees and sunny in winter, so we hope you get outside to enjoy the day.

25.01.2022 Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg RIP- an incredible woman and an outstanding legacy.

25.01.2022 Did you notice when you registered for our Awards Night that we are using a new ticket booking platform this year? Humanitix channels 100 per cent of its profits from booking fees towards world-changing education programmes. Since they started they've provided 83,700 days of education for girls, 2,555 days of scholarships for indigenous students, and 150,000 meals for disadvantaged kids. Using their platform can be life changing, just like being a member of Impact100 SA. https://www.humanitix.com/au/

24.01.2022 What’s your ‘ikigai’ or reason for being? We at Impact 100 SA know that if you can do what you love+ do what you are good at + do what the world needs = you find that sweet spot where you are living your best life and this is where you will find your ‘ikigai’.

24.01.2022 We probably all know someone who is likely to be alone at Christmas. There are many ways we can help people not to feel alone, and this suggestion from the charity RUOK.org.au to give the free gift of conversation is a wonderful idea.

23.01.2022 Know an inspiring South Australian woman? Nominations are now open...,

23.01.2022 We love how resourceful our charities are being this year. In response to having their traditional fundraising events cancelled due to COVID-19 related restrictions, they are having to create new ways of fundraising. Thanks to Adelaide’s Rundle Place, Catherine House Inc volunteers are wrapping gifts in the centre to raise funds, for a small donation, daily until Christmas. A great way for you to get your gifts wrapped while giving a gift to help make a difference.

23.01.2022 Great news about the easing of lockdown in SA. Just remember the 4 metre rule!

23.01.2022 Today, #GivingTuesday, December 1st, thousands of charities, families, businesses, community members, and students from around the world come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and charitable giving! Members of Impact100 SA are familiar with the benefits of giving, having awarded $1.3m in the past five years. It's not just about money though, we can give our time to volunteer, we can advocate for a cause we feel passionate about, or we can donate goods ...to groups who need them. We know this year has been particularly hard in every way for most charities, and indeed for our community. But not all giving costs money. Perhaps think about ways you can help others, and make this day a special one for you as well as your chosen charity. You could even consider joining Impact100 SA and be involved in our 2021 grant round. If you want some ideas on charities who could do with some assistance, here's the list of our major grant winners since 2015 - Kickstart For Kids Youth opportunities Zahra Foundation Australia Backpacks 4 SA Kids INC. Operation Flinders Foundation Puddle Jumpers Incorporated Grandparents for Grandchildren United Way SA Cottages 4 Country Care JusticeNet The simple act of giving can benefit so many. Whoever you chose to help on this worldwide day of giving will be grateful.

23.01.2022 Social housing has been in the news lately as a result of a series of government grants being awarded. One charity which received a grant to build crisis housing for women and children fleeing domestic violence is Anglicare. It's an exciting project.

22.01.2022 If you or someone you know needs help to escape domestic violence during these next six days of lockdown you can get help through the essential services below. We will share information on services we know will be there to help those in need. Stay safe

22.01.2022 Good morning South Australia. Looking good.

22.01.2022 Did you see in today’s international media that MacKenzie Scott has given away over $4b in the past four months to 384 charities? She took the Warren Buffet philanthropy pledge to give away her wealth in her lifetime. We don’t all have billions, but we can all make a difference to the lives of others even in a small way. Her approach to identifying the recipients is a useful guide on how we too can identify appropriate recipients of our own donations. The full article from the Guardian UK is

22.01.2022 We are sincerely grateful for the ongoing generosity of our members whose annual donation of $1000 collectively enables us to support many thousands of people who face disadvantage in our community. Since starting out over six years ago, Impact100 SA has donated over $1.3 million in transformative grants to community organisations that are working to build kinder, more connected and a more just society. David Dall is one of our 93 founding members who continue to support Im...pact 100 SA today. Their vision, generosity and ongoing loyalty and support is the reason for our success. We recently asked David to tell us why he supports collective giving and Impact100 SA.

22.01.2022 It’s easier to make money than to make a difference. But we need both; like our Impact 100 SA members who donate money to support those people working to make a difference, be they paid or unpaid.

22.01.2022 Monday Member Spotlight. Gayle and Andrew Robertson are founding members of Impact100 SA and two of our most enthusiastic supporters who attend all our events. They told us recently We love the fact that 100% of our donations go directly to the cause, and by combining all members’ donations, it enables Impact100 to make a real difference to grant award winners- it’s the most effective form of philanthropy we know. ... As well as supporting Impact100 SA, Andrew and Gayle support a variety of other charities and are passionate supporters of the arts- in particular the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Festival, as well as the State Theatre Company and the State Opera. We are thankful for the generosity of people like the Robertsons who are helping our community to flourish.

22.01.2022 Our Grant Theme Announcement on Thursday was such a fun night. Not only did we get to see the hidden bowling talents of members, we enjoyed fantastic wood fired pizza thanks to the support of Cucina Cufone. The Torrensville Bowling Club has excellent facilities and some of their senior bowlers provided tuition for bowling novices, ensuring a great night was had by all. Thanks also to the anonymous donor who supported the event's other costs. The event was free - with members and guests buying their own and - as we are committed to ensuring that the entire $1,000 paid by members is granted to the winning charities each year. Photos from the event are

21.01.2022 Breaking News: Impact 100 SA is launching a Young Impact for school aged children in April 2021. The aim of Young Impact 100 SA will be to inspire and grow philanthropy among our children, in order to grow a future generation of community builders. Our goal is to demonstrate collective giving to our children, in a fun and meaningful way. We will encourage our children to raise their own money and then vote for the charity that they would like to see receive their donation.... Contact us if you would like to find out more about this exciting new program. [email protected] Thanks to our friends at Impact 100 WA for their inspiration and assistance.

20.01.2022 We know that most charities in SA have been impacted by Covid this year. The State Government announced this week in its budget various supports available for those in the community sector. If you missed the details, or want to know how to apply for the grants available, here’s the link to the Department of Treasury and Finance https://www.treasury.sa.gov.au/Growing-South-Austr/COVID-19

20.01.2022 Impact100 SA is democratic to its core. Each year we call for applications from charities to be awarded a grant. After the Grants Committee has assessed the applications, members, (who each have donated $1,000), vote on which of the eight semi-finalists qualify for the final four. Its such a hard decision as all the charities are doing great things with limited resources. Last year the semi-final voting was held at Thomson Geer Lawyers, but this year (thanks to Covid) it was held online. The next step is voting to determine who should receive the high impact $100,000 grant for 2020. Watch this page to find out more as our Awards Night gets closer.

20.01.2022 The Adelaide Central Market has a wonderful reputation for helping out charities from across Adelaide. At Christmas their wonderful traders are donating food to help Catherine House - Support for Women Experiencing Homelessness. They’re also supporting OzHarvestSA who are collecting donations via their Tree of Goodness to provide a Christmas meal to those who otherwise would miss out. So when you shop locally with small businesses like these you’re helping make everyone’s Christmas that little bit better.

19.01.2022 During 2020 we saw many of our charities do what Bear Grylls tells us to do in the image. We have all had to make changes to our lives. One great change that you can make is to share with others what Impact100 does, and how making a $1,000 donation can transform the lives of others via our high impact grants. Can you share our Facebook page with others? Can you also tell people why you became involved with Impact100 and tell them stories from the grant recipients? If you need inspiration, or want to join, follow this link: https://impact100sa.org.au

19.01.2022 Our thanks go to Elizabeth Elliot from Perks Accountants and Wealth Advisers for mentoring Lion Hearts Learning in the lead up to their presentation on the Finals Presentation night on 28 October 2020. Our Mentors are important to the success of our charities on the finals night as they can guide the charities to ensure that they address the issues most important to members. This year the mentors will also be introducing their allocated charity on the night. Thanks for your work Elizabeth!

19.01.2022 When a charity makes our final 4 they are allocated a Mentor who works with them in the lead up to the Grant Award presentation. We are so proud to have linked mentors Pwc Adelaide Office with United Way South Australia and to see that relationship continue. Impact100 not only awards grant money, it also helps establish links which carry forward and bring benefits to all those involved.

19.01.2022 Fancy yourself as a champion gift wrapper? Have you got a spare hour or two to help a charity? Backpacks 4 Kids is short of people who can wrap gifts at TTP as a fundraiser in a year when fundraising has been so hard. Full details below

19.01.2022 Many of you will know about Taryn Brumfitt and her Body Image Movement. Taryn is currently promoting a fundraiser to assist the Hutt St Centre in their work with those experiencing homelessness. The demands of the Hutt St Centre have grown hugely during the Covid crisis, so any help you can give them will be gratefully received. Giving to others when we can makes their lives better and enriches our lives too The link from Instagram will show you how to donate to Taryn’s fundraiser

19.01.2022 Some lessons from 2020 worth learning. We at Impact100 SA especially believe we should Give back generously.

19.01.2022 Impact 100 SA aims to increase philanthropy in our State. The Royal Australian Mint is releasing 25 million of these distinctive colourful donation dollars (one for each Australian) in the hope that you will do the same and donate to a good cause.

18.01.2022 In exactly eight weeks we will be announcing the winners of our high impact grants. Only members can vote to determine the winner. If you want to vote on 28 October 2020 at our Awards Night you need to join NOW!

18.01.2022 Save the date: We are excited to invite members to our Generous South Australian’s event, to be held in The Lab on Tuesday 18 May, 6-7.30pm at the exciting new Light, a privately funded social enterprise supporting local artists and the community. 18.01.2022 Every day there are people on our planet who want to make a difference; people like Jenny Cooper at Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs and Brad Scott at Robe. Brad’s recycling company Transmutation takes tens of thousands of plastic bread tags collected by people like Jenny, which would have otherwise gone to landfill, and transforms them into beautiful bowls and serving boards. Money raised by the sale of the bread tags in turn goes to funding wheelchairs for disadvantaged people in Africa. Who would have thought that the small act of collecting a bread tag, could bring communities together, while making the world a better place for our children?

17.01.2022 At Impact100 SA we see part of our mission is to spread the word about the meaning of philanthropy. You can change the world one person at a time. A smile shared can give a person hope and comes at no cost. Together we can make a difference to others.

17.01.2022 In today’s Advertiser Dr Alice Clark, of Shelter SA, writes about the impact of lockdown on homeless people, particularly rough sleepers. Her article calls on all of us to be more compassionate, particularly in such challenging times.

15.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the dads and father figures in our lives.

15.01.2022 Past Impact100 SA grant recipient Puddle Jumpers Incorporated has been helping people with drive through food collections since the start of the Covid crisis. The demand has been huge. They are still able to provide this help, within the upgraded Covid lockdown. But they need help. If you think you can assist them the details are in their post

15.01.2022 JusticeNet are our second finalist to be in the running to be awarded $100,000 when members vote on 28 October 2020 at our Finals Presentation night. They have been working with Sheenagh Edwards from KPMG to develop their presentation for the night. Our Mentors are greatly valued by both the Grants Committee and Members, but also the charities with which they work. Thanks for your work this year Sheenagh.

14.01.2022 Its nearly the weekend

14.01.2022 Like most of you, after a very challenging year, we at Impact100 SA are planning on enthusiastically celebrating the end of 2020 and welcoming the new year with great optimism. Given this year has tested everyone and the costs to our society and economy have been enormous, it might be easy to despair and overlook some of the silver linings. This year we have been heartened by the kindness and generosity of donors and the resourcefulness of our charity partners when they hav...e been confronted with COVID-19 related restrictions and lock downs. Not only have we been able to utilise videoconferencing technology and been able to work, study and socialise with colleagues, family and friends remotely, at Impact100 SA we have witnessed increased collaboration, connectedness and sense of community. Despite the need for social distancing, people have found ways to connect, be it standing outside our houses for the ANZAC dawn service, meeting for virtual dinner parties on Zoom, offering help or delivering groceries to our elderly neighbours or by donating to those in need or volunteering in some way. We have cheered on as we watched our businesses and charities innovate and bounce back by offering online charity auctions, or restaurants implementing takeaway meals and South Australian companies like Detmold making facemasks or Prohibition Liquor Co making hand sanitiser. One of the biggest positives for our community has been the opportunity for reflection and coming out of that, a new sense of gratitude and appreciation for so many things that we took for granted previously, be they the freedom to travel, to hug our friends, to socialise at restaurants and hotels and to play and watch sport and theatre. COVID-19 has taught us that no matter how difficult times are, we need to support each other. It has also taught us that collectively, together, we can achieve so much more than if we try to do it alone. We at Impact100 SA echo the words of of Kamala Harris, the new US Vice President elect, who said that If you are fortunate to have opportunity, it is your duty to make sure that other people have those opportunities as well. So, here’s to the power of all of us with opportunity and good fortune coming together to make a difference and to help others in 2021. With best wishes for a great year ahead, from all of us at Impact100 SA

14.01.2022 Impact100 SA is part of a global network of Impact100 chapters which has given over $80m to transform the lives of many. Carrie Morgridge, of the Morgridge Family Foundation and Impact100 SA member, is funding a research project and recently invited all Impact100 chapters to be involved in a survey of members to understand what drives you to be part of this wonderful collective giving opportunity. The research project also looks at the impact of the grants made by all Impact100 chapters on recipients, and also on the experience of being a member. If you haven't filled in the survey yet, we would really like you to do it ASAP. Carrie tells you in the video link below why she's funding the research project, and we provide links to the Australian version of the survey.

11.01.2022 A wise person knows there is something to be learned from everyone and from listening to diverse voices. At Impact100 SA we appreciate the benefits of coming together as a collective, and learning from others.

11.01.2022 The Australian Financial Review published an article on Friday about the outlook for philanthropy in 2021 given the reduced returns to the investment funds generally. Whilst organisations such as Perpetual Trustees who distribute $100m annually to charities on behalf of various foundations advised that they expect a 20-30 per cent reduction in funds distribution, the article below suggests that many charities are still expecting full philanthropic donations in 2021, but are... looking a different approaches to fundraising and are asking foundations to reconsider the impact of major reductions in their asset allocations. Whilst historical foundations and trusts may reduce their asset allocations, the article suggests that living donors should strongly consider doing all they can to continue their support of charities at a time of such great need. 11.01.2022 Charities who receive grants from Impact100 SA are often initially overwhelmed by the support they receive on the night the Awards are determined. Many write us beautiful notes afterwards about the impact the Grant will have on their charity and report back to us on the flow on effects of receiving the Grant. Recent recipient Cottages 4 Country Care and 2019 grant recipient Grandparents for Grandchildren both sent us notes in recent weeks indicating an attitude of gratitude. We shared their comments in last week's newsletter https://impact100sa.org.au/attitude-of-gratitude/

09.01.2022 The let down after Christmas can be significant, with so much focus on having a perfect day. But one of the lessons of this year is that you can’t control everything and sometimes need to just go with the flow.

09.01.2022 Today’s In Daily has reported that Adelaide is on target to reach the goal of zero with record numbers of rough sleepers finding permanent accommodation in July. 07.01.2022 What happens when your charity is one of the final four in the running to receive an Impact100 SA grant? With less than eight weeks now until the Awards Presentation Night on 28 October 2020, the final four charities will be working to prepare their presentation for the evening. But they don't do it in isolation, as we are fortunate to have developed a support group of Mentors who spend time with their allocated charity to help them prepare and understand how to move forward. We are very grateful for the involvement of our mentors. We know the charities in previous years have found their support both helpful and wise. Over the next few days we will highlight each of the charities and their mentors.

06.01.2022 We are delighted to welcome our newest member Sef Van Den Niewelaar, IT professional and owner of Galileo Business Solutions. Sef says he first heard about Impact100 SA when he was undertaking the Governor’s Leadership Foundation Program with our Chairperson, Kathryn House and member, Alex Dimos and that he was attracted to Impact100 SA as soon as Kath House told me about the organisation and what they stand for. The collective power of combining 100 smaller donations int...o one grant that can make a real difference to a deserving charity, is immense. Also knowing that 100% of all funds is used for the cause is very reassuring. Sef is originally from the Netherlands, and as well as being Chairman of the board of Rembrandt Living, is an avid hiker and trail runner. Sef is married to Kenzie, a councillor at the City of Charles Sturt and has two children. He also tells us he enjoys travel, the outdoors and the ‘occasional’ glass of red wine. 02.01.2022 Its wonderful to see small South Australian charities doing big things, particularly when they are helping to create safer, stronger and more connected communities. The Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation has campaigned for the last three years for a sports and recreation hub in Adelaides south, which will be used for the Foundations free sports coaching and mentoring programs for disadvantaged children. The Foundation was shortlisted in 2018 for an Impact 100 SA grant for this project. For more details go to the RRSF website www.rogerrasheedsportsfoundation.com

01.01.2022 For the 47 charities who completed an Expression of Interest for this year's Impact100 SA Grant Round this is an anxious time. They're waiting to hear if they make the next round. But what's happening to their application at the moment? The Grants Committee is currently evaluating each application in detail. This involves ensuring that each application abides by our eligibility criteria, evaluating the organisations themselves in terms of their mission and, most importantl...y, ranking their project objectives in achieving our grant themes this year. The Grants Assessment Committee will finish this work by 30th April. After this we will be asking the long list of Applicants to complete a full application. To keep up to date with the process and key timelines, you can follow the Grants page on our website Good luck to all 47 charities as they wait to hear from us.

01.01.2022 It takes a huge team for Impact100 SA to pull together our Awards night. It takes us 11 months to pull things together and the process for everyone is long, from those charities who apply for assessment against our grant criteria to the assessing of the applications and then the preparations for our shortlisting night and finals nights. Our recent newsletter highlighted just how grateful we are for all those involved in the process. We have a wonderful team - and we can’t thank them enough. https://impact100sa.org.au/a-night-of-impact/
