25.01.2022 Writers and aspiring writers, readers, editors ... something here for everyone from the stars at Fremantle Press . #howtobeanauthor

23.01.2022 The Writing Editor now has its own branding and facebook page, with a website coming very soon! Thanks heaps to TL Design Co. - Taryn, I love your work and thanks for your patience! (ourselves as clients not the easiest jobs to do!!)

23.01.2022 When times are tough, the tough get going! Working in the creative sector has been particularly challenging over the past four months, particularly for solo freelancers and those in the gig economy. Small businesses are also hurting - but heres a thing. If you are a small business, spend your marketing budget with another small business and its win-win! I am fortunate to regularly collaborate with Taryn Jones. Shes a brilliant Brand and Design Specialist, helping brands to soar with her beautiful logo and website designs (including mine!) https://tarynlanglois.com.au/

22.01.2022 Monday - feeling a bit punny this morning.

22.01.2022 A heads-up ... to be a good author, you need a good editor!

21.01.2022 Upcycling - the word of 2019 - defined as the activity of making new furniture, objects, etc. out of old or used things or waste material - pretty sure thats what my mum was doing back in the 1940s...and her mum before that! Just hadnt been branded as such.

20.01.2022 Monday fun day. Took me a couple of seconds, but it was worth it!

20.01.2022 In any industry, but especially in the arts and creative sectors, the self-employed, the freelancers, the gig workers and casual contractors all seem to be the first hit, the hardest hit, and amongst the last to return to some kind of financial normality - if we ever do. Working this way may or may not be a life choice, and were used to, and can plan for, some career uncertainty - but nothing like this! Skill diversity and a willingness to keep an open door to opportunity is the key.

17.01.2022 If you love modern history, art, Perth, politics, theatre, sociology and a damn good story - which happens to be true - youll love this fascinating book that I proofread pre-publication for Fremantle Press. "The Workers Art Guild was a radical cultural and political force in Perth in the 1930s and 1940s, embracing new ideas in a provincial, isolated city. Through the lives of its key players, such as writer Katharine Susannah Prichard and theatre maverick Keith George, Art Was Their Weapon illuminates a fascinating era in Western Australian history."

17.01.2022 Thanks for the explanation that those stores not open will, in fact, be closed.

16.01.2022 Another manuscript I was privileged to proofread for Fremantle Press. Such a fascinating period, and an equally fascinating read. If you love Perth, and its social history, its art, literature and politics - do yourself a favour!

15.01.2022 One for the grammar nerds. Very funny. Thanks Roly.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to this year's shortlisted writers. (And to Hungerford judge and Fremantle Press publisher Georgia Richter, who I reckon has the best job in the world!)

13.01.2022 So, it's finally official! The certificate, and the letters 'AE' after my name, confirm that I am now an IPEd (Institute of Professional Editors) Accredited Editor, after passing the national exam I sat in December. Incredibly rewarding to have the hard work recognised. But what does being an Accredited Editor mean? For me, it means recognition and certification of my skills as a professional editor, and peer validation of my competence. For my clients, they have the confidence that they are benefiting from an accredited editor who is engaged in the profession and committed to ongoing professional development. So if you need an editor, copy editor or proofreader, give www.thewritingeditor.com.au a look!

12.01.2022 I'm very fortunate to have worked on projects with Taryn at TL Design Co for quite a while now, she's a brilliant designer who does beautiful, creative, original work. If you need new branding or design, or a re-fresh or rewrite, get in touch - together we can give you the whole package! www.thewritingeditor.com.au and https://tarynlanglois.com.au/

10.01.2022 Pretty much sums up every Zoom meeting/book club/pilates class Ive been to!

10.01.2022 Very excited today to launch my very first website - huge thanks to designer Taryn at TL Design Co., not just for her elegance in design but her undying patience with a difficult customer (I will never complain about a fussy client again!) Thanks Taryn, and Im looking forward to the exciting opportunities this new chapter in my own life will bring! www.thewritingeditor.com.au

09.01.2022 Congratulations to this years shortlisted writers. (And to Hungerford judge and Fremantle Press publisher Georgia Richter, who I reckon has the best job in the world!)

07.01.2022 Proofreaders. Who needs em?

06.01.2022 Sack the proofreader.

04.01.2022 The general rule is no Oxford (serial) comma unless needed for clarification. I’d say in this case it is!

04.01.2022 This mornings workspace. Grateful for the winter sunshine, a garden view, and a wonderful manuscript to be editing.

03.01.2022 This page will be officially rebranded and launched very soon, along with a website...Im looking forward to some exciting new writing and editing projects! In the meantime, my email address is now [email protected]. Stay tuned for more...special thanks to Taryn Jones!

02.01.2022 Fremantle photographer Roel Loopers and I have been helping out small local traders with the offer of some marketing support to kickstart their business after the Covid 19 shutdowns. First cab off the rank was Bill and Jackie at Mosaic Carraige - a beautiful place to spend a night or two in Freo! Thanks Bill for your kind words - "Ingrid, You certainly are a wordsmith! Jackie and I are quite blown away by your eloquence.Roel, your photographs are absolutely exquisite. Togethe...r they will make a powerful package and really capture what the Carriage is all about. Thank you both so much for providing us with a new perspective. Its given us a way forward. We are excited!!!! We are both so appreciative of your generosity." https://www.facebook.com//Hotel/Mosaic-Carriage-538478009/

02.01.2022 If youre a lover of crime thrillers - or just a lover of reading! - you may be familiar with Alan Carters gripping series of novels published by Fremantle Press - I was fortunate enough to be given the job of proofreading Heaven Sent - a crime thriller with a very Fremantle flavour. (I think I can also let you know Fremantle Press is getting ready to publish Alan Carters latest novel later this year - and its a cracker!) https://www.fremantlepress.com.au/products/heaven-sent

02.01.2022 Thrilled for Holden on this award. A well deserved win. I was privileged to have proofread his manuscript for Fremantle Press, and was there on the night when he won the 2018 TAG Hungerford Award for the best unpublished manuscript. Of course now its published and still winning awards!

02.01.2022 Hire a proofreader! Unless the onions really have turned bad ...

02.01.2022 Get ready for it, Macquarie!

01.01.2022 Finally, after years of helping others promote their skills, their brands and their businesses, Im doing the same for me!

01.01.2022 Thrilled. Excited. Proud. My first proper editing job has made it into print! So pleased for author Alan Talbot, it was an absolute pleasure and joy to work with him. Hopefully hes as proud of the book as I am! Its a great read - Ill have copies if youre interested. And thanks to my consulting editor Georgia Richter and book designer Anna at Book Designs.

01.01.2022 Many thanks to Alan Talbot, author of In Search of the Hills for his kind testimonial.. "I am not an author, but because I was grounded, decided to try and write a book about my travels. The result was rushed, very amateur, full of rambling anecdotes and with little coherence. Ingrid took my draft firmly in hand and turned it into a very presentable book. She also made the editing process an enjoyable experience for me. Ingrid is a very understanding and professional editor."

01.01.2022 As a freelance writer and editor, Im well used to working at home alone, and for the most part, I enjoy it. But many of my industry colleagues are finding it a challenge moving from a busy, dynamic, collaborative creative environment - and I miss that at times too. So it was nice to catch up for an online wine (and whine!) yesterday and with the amazing Silvana Visinoni from Workhouse Advertising, and the very talented Taryn at TL Design Co. Keep well everyone!
