23.01.2022 Warning: long post....to the generous reader, thank you. It was around July this year when the State government decided to double the fine (to $533) for drivers who illegally park in disability parking bays. The government even went one step further with the Transport Minister writing to the likes of Shopping Centre Operators asking the owners of these private premises to let parking inspectors on site. As you would be aware parking rules can’t be enforced on private propert...ies without the permission of the land owner. If you want to get the upfront in-your-face view on the difference it makes to someone who actually really needs the wider disability parking space, no problem; google Dylan Alcott parking spray. It’s a short clip and a warning, some people may find it offensive. I personally find it offensive when a shopper who desperately needs that park decides to abandon their shopping trip because parking in a ‘standard park’ is all too hard. I assisted my late, sweet mother with a manual wheelchair for some time and it was so much harder to manage when I just didn’t have the space to get the car door open wide enough when using a ‘standard parking space’ (not to suggest that on those times, disability parks were all being illegally used). I will say I shed a tear more than once under the boot lid cause my mum hated the thought of inconveniencing anyone else...like ever. Can you imagine that, terminally ill and feeling bad because she didn’t have the ability to just pop in and out of the car like she once could. She actually wasn’t hoping for more than anyone else, she just wanted a trip to the shops or the doctor or wherever to be achievable/ordinary...just like you and me, right? So, as the real silly season approaches with a little over 4 weeks till Christmas please don’t use a disability parking bay because you are just ducking into the shops for a few minutes....some people don’t have that privilege. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities says disability results from the interaction between persons with impairments and attitudinal and environmental barriers that hinder their full and effective participation on society on an equal basis with others. Thank you Josh Marshall for opening my world to this publication. In simple terms it reminds me of the role I am unconsciously playing to keep that term ‘disability’ alive and well. Hmmm ... I will continue to learn and change. Who creates the ability or the dis-ability? The festive season is for everyone and often that starts in the car park! 20.01.2022 We understand that Astra Zeneca, a British-Swedish drug maker announced this week that its experimental coronavirus vaccine (developed with the University of Oxford) is (following trials to date) 70% effective (on average). It could potentially be quite some time before FDA approval and the authorisation of this drug (which would be released in the Europe and the US initially) however, we’re keen to know, if / when a vaccine is approved and released, would you choose to have... it? Yes / No Thanks for joining our poll! #inclusionaccess #inclusionmatters #covid19 #drugtrials #research #vaccine Photo credit: John Cairns/University of Oxford/AP A researcher works on a vaccine for COVID-19.

19.01.2022 SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation), there’s a lot to understand about it whether you’re looking to invest in it, build it or live in it. Aside from being an Access Consultant, Inclusion Access Director Josh Marshall has also recently studied SDA. This week, Josh, myself and Sid Bhardwaj met with General Manager of YellowBridge Qld Jodie Collins to talk about SDA. Love strong conversation! Again, what a wonderful opportunity to ask more, learn more and do more! ... Want to know more about SDA? Want to know more about Inclusion Access? 15.01.2022 How great is this! This proud and passionate guy, Tim McCallum will perform at the AFL Grand Final. This is true inclusion.

14.01.2022 E Q U I T Y The David Wallis Team understand that a "fair go" means we need to alter the pathway so that there are opportunities, options and possibilities for... all. This is the practice of equity. The DW Team search diligently for the right "shoe" and we work hard to ensure it fits, because we believe EVERYONE deserves a chance to succeed. There is a place for everyone to find their "fit".

07.01.2022 The Australian Government is committed to improving life for people with disability, through the new National Disability Strategy. We want to hear what people with disability think about the new Introductory paper to better understand how to make the impact of the new Strategy and the NDIS meaningful and long-lasting Improving outcomes for people with disability under the National Disability Strategy and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

06.01.2022 Josh and I love a long conversation. We love to ponder, process and plan with purpose. We talk about the subject of inclusion a lot. This week what brought us to the brown paper (which we often pull out for a think tank) was the subject of ENTITLEMENT. I wonder how you feel when you read or hear the word entitlement? Is it a neutral word for you or does it bring up all sorts of emotions and, has anyone ever used this word to argue a point against you?

03.01.2022 It was an absolute delight to catch up with Belinda Sanders, ABC Southern Queensland to chat about the latest developments for Inclusion Access. Expect to hear the interview later this week. Thank you Belinda. * Advocacy *Education *Consultancy to facilitate inclusive communities; that’s what we are all about. PM us to ask how you can donate to support our charitable cause. #InclusionMatters

02.01.2022 People with disabilities often find themselves very anxious about many parts of life.

02.01.2022 This is a term that should be more widely use.

01.01.2022 I can’t tell you how many times someone has said to me you don’t really think one person can make a difference do you? Interestingly, I had that said to me after Josh and myself met with Nicole Jackson-Ryan, the NDIS Toowoomba area coordinator earlier this week. My response this time....well yes, yes I do. Never underestimate the Power Of One let alone One + One + One + One..... I think I can speak for all Directors of Inclusion Access when I say we really do embrace the word inclusion and we’ll keep learning, growing, asking, listening, collaborating, working and moving toward it with hope and belief that when you know better, you do better. We are ONE commUNITY. #inclusion #inclusionmatters #diversity #one #ability #voice #community #keeponswimmingNDIS National Disability Insurance Scheme
