25.01.2022 7 August is Aged Care Employee Day - and in 2020 the need to recognise the heroes in aged care is even more important that previous years. Thank you to all our heroes!

25.01.2022 As one of our Caravonica resident couples celebrate their Platinum Wedding Anniversary today, we take a moment to look back on their lovely life together. Congratulations to Alun and Doreen Jones...what an impressive innings together!

24.01.2022 Happy International Youth Day! At Infinite Care we have had the privilege of witnessing first hand, through our buddy programs and intergenerational activities, the power of the bond young people can form with the elderly. Heres a few things we can all learn from each other when we are open to listening and learning....

23.01.2022 For Melbourne Cup this year we held a fashion parade for our residents with prizes for best dressed - and didn't they ham it up for the crowd

23.01.2022 Today is R U Ok Day - a day created to shed a light on those around us who may be struggling. They may be a family member, friend or colleague and you may have noticed a recent change in them, however subtle. If youd normally be the type of person to say something, then youre also the type of person to ask "R U OK?" Start a conversation to see how theyre going.... You could: Find a time that is convenient for them to have a chat Go for a coffee to get away from other distractions Mention specific things that have made you concerned for them: "You seem less chatty than usual. How are you travelling?" If theyre not ok, just listen and do not judge them. For more tips visit ruok.org.au #theresmoretosay #ruok #ruokday #ruokeveryday See more

22.01.2022 This is what we all hope love will look like after 57 years of marriage! Jack and Norma first met when they worked in the same shoe shop in London. Norma tells us it was love at first sight. To celebrate we set up a quiet romantic space for them to share a special lunch together, where they enjoyed some sparkling wine and fresh prawns while they reminisced about their lovely life together.... Happy Anniversary Jack and Norma

22.01.2022 Seniors Week is officially over but we have so many #feelgoodstories rolling in regularly that we want to continue to share with you! Meet Don, possibly one of our most tech savvy residents, and just a joy to have around (pun intended - youll see what we mean)

20.01.2022 PLEDGE OF REMEMBRANCE The Australian soldier grows not old, the flame still lights his eyes Although his body lays to rest, his flag forever flies On the green and gold horizon where the wattles sweep and sway... It flies amongst the gardens and the classrooms of today Over ocean streams and backyard dreams, above the sunburnt plain Through harvest yields, on sporting fields, in rainbows after rain It defines a life worth living and a day that must be won For every father’s daughter and for every mother’s son But more than that, the honour claimed in fighting for the free The pride of the Australian soldier burns in you and me When the night is dark and dangerous with the rumble of the storm His courage calls the sunrise and his spirit makes it warm We will not forget their sacrifice the strength of their endeavour For the choices we are gifted with, that flame will burn forever With a smile that lights the future shining brightly in our scope We will stand as one, together - we will carry on with hope But as we go, we take the words that rightfully belong I am young and I am worthy, I am brave and I am strong In the face of any challenge, I will strive to rise above I deserve this opportunity to live, to learn, to love I can truly make a difference; my path is up to me And this is my commitment be the best that I can be. - Rupert McCall See more

19.01.2022 Not quite the huge celebration we were hoping to hold but festive nonetheless! Happy Birthday Edge Hill :-)

18.01.2022 Each week our Ipswich home are holding Fun Day Fridays. These are all themed....last week was themed around Red Nose Day, next week is Elvis Friday and the following is Doris Day Day!

18.01.2022 So chuffed to receive this beautiful feedback... "Thank you so much for the opportunity to watch the webinar Navigating Dementia. I found the webinar very helpful, and Carolyns relaxed style easy to follow and understand. Her explanation of the complexity of the condition was clear and concise, and her manner encouraging. My partner is a resident at the Hahndorf facility where I am so happy with the attitude of all staff members towards the residents and their relatives. ...They have managed the difficulties of the recent restrictions so capably and without any panic. The excellent results are well-deserved. The visitation restrictions were very, very difficult for my partner as he is profoundly deaf, and I was unable to communicate with him except by letter. I wrote short notes in printed form, enclosed newspaper cuttings I thought were short and clear enough to hold his limited attention span, and included some very good cards which were photographs of zoo animals. Other means of communication, particularly by FaceTime etc are meaningless to him, which is a pity. And the phone is also out of the question. Hard as it was for both of us, he seems to have survived the visitation deprivations quite well - another big tick for all staff of course! Again thank you for the webinar - I am now reading the book which is also informative and helpful, with lots of recognisable events!"

17.01.2022 When friends reunite A #feelgoodstory to brighten your day...

16.01.2022 In a time where residential aged care is very much in the spotlight we want to share some good news stories! This one was received from one of our staff at Edmonton Gardens this week: Carol has dementia and had joined us after she was rushed to hospital after burning her hand severely one night when she had woken to make herself a hot drink. ... Carols daughter decided to admit her mother to our Edmonton Gardens home. Her son is very close to Carol and did not want his mum to be in aged care at all. This caused problems within the family. When Carol first arrived she did not leave her room for a week. She only wanted to talk to her children and her ex-husband Ted via video call with our Connection Coordinator. The transition was very hard on Carols family, in particular her son. Two weeks after Carol was admitted, I saw her sitting in the foyer waiting for her daughter to pick her up. I asked her if she is enjoying her stay and she said, I have told my son I am staying here and he needs get used to me not coming home. I was quite shocked as she had been so unsettled when she first arrived. I asked what had changed her attitude towards staying on and she said, I love it here. Its like spending all day with my best friends!! Carols ex-husband Ted then approached us while he was visiting Carol a few weeks later. He said he also wanted to move in because he has been speaking to Carol via video call and, its the first time in years I could see the light on her face, and I see how happy she is. Ted also wants to be close to Carol because she has Dementia and he is hoping she will remember him. Having both parents together in the same home has also brought their family closer as they now do a lot of outings together. Just a lovely #feelgoodstory about overcoming the fear of moving into residential aged care

15.01.2022 *Updated* RESTRICTED VISITATION - CORNUBIA, IPSWICH & MT LOFTY (TOOWOOMBA) Due to a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the Brisbane community, we have received direction overnight to close visitation at our Cornubia, Ipswich and Mt Lofty facilities.... 14.01.2022 GREEN THUMB BRIGADE Mt Lofty's Green Thumb Brigade are a group of residents who love nothing more than being in the sunshine and fresh air... and getting their hands dirty in the garden! They have been busy weeding, trimming and clearing our garden beds ready for new spring growth. ... One of our residents donated a beautiful King Orchid to be spliced and replanted in one of the gardens. We can’t wait for the orchid to re-flower again so we can enjoy the oodles of white flowers cascading over the edge of the gardens See more

12.01.2022 Celebrating International Friendship Day with our Caravonica friends...

11.01.2022 #AgedCareEmployeeDay2020 - you couldnt have come at a better time! With so much focus on aged care this year due to covid-19, some may forget what this all means for our aged care workers.... it means even more mental and physical energy is required each day to support our residents. It means more TLC. And it means our roles are more vital than ever. Aged Care Employee Day was an initiative implemented in 2018, and its a day designed to celebrate all workers in aged care ... from cleaners, to accountants, to nurses and carers and everyone in between. As an organisation we LOVE to make a big deal of Aged Care Employee Day. This year our theme is to Celebrate the Infinite Super Heroes. And we have encouraged staff to dress in bright happy colours and/or super hero accessories... and to bring a fun and quirky attitude into the homes to brighten each others days. It takes a special type of person to work in aged care and times like these truly show the heart required to care for the elderly. Congratulations and thank you - to ALL the Super Heroes of aged care - today and every day @LASANational #thanksforcaring #agedcareemployeeday #agedcareemployeeday2020 #ACED2020

We are all still standing... so give yourself a BIG GOLD STAR Bring on 2021...we are ready for you!

08.01.2022 How much do we LOVE these words of wisdom @ Hahndorf, South Australia

07.01.2022 NAIDOC Week 2020 This week acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. This nation’s story began at the dawn of time.... Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. They built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. This adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled endurance through climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Hundreds of cultures covered this continent, managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for the future. Through ingenious land management systems, like fire stick farming, the harshest habitable continent was transformed into a land of bounty. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - Australian history. All Australians are invited to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet, and to recognise that rights to this land were never ceded by it’s First People. #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe See more

06.01.2022 Welcome Boomba the Infinite Care Mt Lofty therapy dog! We had a surprise visitor this week in Boomba, the Sharpei, who’s 9 weeks old. Between getting lots of pats and snuggles, running around on the grass and taking naps in the Wellbeing Office, the little fella was all tuckered out by the time it was home time. ... Boomba will be coming in to be with Mount Lofty residents once a week, visiting them individually and joining activities. A little cuddle with Boomba cheers anyone up and we look forward to sharing many more adventures with our new furry friend.

05.01.2022 George loves music and shares many stories of the days when he used to play the bagpipes. He is very proud of his heritage and even donned his family tartan in a photo shoot he was part of for us last year! These days George’s fingers are not as nimble as once were and he was disappointed to have to give up playing the bagpipes many years ago. Cornubia’s Musical Appreciation activity re-sparked George’s love of playing an instrument so he took to Gumtree to find himself a ne...w musical instrument to master. Low and behold George managed to track down a very impressive and shiny saxophone. He also printed off the sheet music for the tunes he wants to learn to play and he has been enthusiastically practicing every day (much to his neighbours’ delight we bet!?) George’s goal is to have mastered ‘The Last Post’ for next year’s ANZAC Day Service. We just love hearing (and sharing!) these stories of new hobbies being taken up during a chapter of life where residents have space and in their lives to make the most of their free time. Never stop learning! #goodnewsstories #feelgoodstories #newtricks #agedcare #agedcareaustralia #lifestyle

05.01.2022 Today our very own Ipswich resident, Tom Berry, turns 100 years young. Tom (pictured here with his wife June) is the patriarch of an esteemed family business, which most people who have lived in Ipswich would know well, Highway Coaches. Tom started with the company in 1939 during wartime as a motor mechanic, and remained in this position until he took over the bus company in 1979. ... Tom drove the buses for more than 60 years and obviously has a lot of stories to tell of his time driving in this period when public transport was the local bus company. One of those stories was a lucky escape in 1943, where there was a crash between a stolen Army truck and a bus on Three-Mile Bridge. To escape the bus the passengers jumped out of the windows, and into the creek. Military Police arrived on the scene and the thieves were shot. Unfortunately the driver of the bus was killed on impact. Tom, who was only 21 years old at the time, was meant to be the driver that night but had swapped shifts. Happy 100th birthday Tom from all the staff, residents, and management, we hope you have a wonderful day.

05.01.2022 A day complete with received congratulations from the Prime Minister and the Queen of England! Also, a beautiful thank you from Alun and Doreens family for making their 70th Wedding Anniversary Celebration something to remember. They had a wonderful day, though shy when it came to entering the room, seeing how pretty it looked and the people they feel close to. Yesterday for Alun and Doreen was perfect, and then the most beautiful colour coordinated flowers arrive in the a...fternoon. Thank you for allowing us the use of the room, the lovely high tea, the beautiful flowers and allowing staff to attend and drop in during their breaks. There were lots of laughs, jokes, fun, a little dressing up and it was lovely to hear Alun and Doreen reminiscing. The cake was absolutely perfect. Alun and Doreen havent seen anything like that before and were still talking about it the next day. In fear of missing anyone out I wont list names, however I would like to thank the many Carers and Nursing staff at Caravonica for assisting and supporting my parents and family, while adjusting my parents to living in a residential care facility. 04.01.2022 Dear Dad Thank you for being there when I took my first steps in the world and for holding my hand until I got there. Thank you for being my partner in crime.... Thank you for punishing me and teaching me that to succeed in life I need to play by the rules. Thank you for yelling at me, even when I sobbed and screamed about how much I hated you. You didnt deserve the cruel names I called you. Thank you for guiding me into becoming the person I am now. You comforted me without even saying anything; you put your arm around me and opened your ears to all of my jumbled words and tears. Thank you for listening. Thank you for believing, for hoping, for smiling, for laughing, for teaching, for loving, and supporting me. You were the superhero of my childhood. Your arms were the first place where I felt safe and protected. Whenever there was something I wanted to know, I knew I could count on you to teach me. The smile that comes upon your face when you see me makes me feel so cherished. Thank you for being with me always. You always know when to offer me advice and when simply to wipe my tears. Thank you for being my teacher. You taught me how to ride a bike, throw a ball, open a bank account. Your wisdom is gold to me. Most of all thank you Dad for being you. Happy Fathers Day
