22.01.2022 Something told me to visit the Reject shop when I was out today. WOW!!! A 12 pack of coloured pencils for 50c. Can’t beat that so I bought all of the packs on the shelf. During COVID lockdown #2 still bargains to be had out there

13.01.2022 Today I was brought to tears! Why you might be asking? Well, this pandemic, COVID19 has been extremely hard for the Foundation. I didn’t get to visit the children in Sri Lanka this year. Our fundraising op shop has been and still is closed more than it has been open in 2020. We tried selling our op shop items on a newly developed FB buy, swap & sell page. Although we’ve built a great following and have sold a number of items, we haven’t earned enough to pay our rent for ...our closed period, not for the want of trying hard. Then today, I was working at the op shop getting our click & collect items ready for Wednesday when a lady from a local Frankston business came to donate some goods and very casually told me that she wanted to donate $1000-00 to us because she believes in what we do. At this point, I cried. You see, it’s been very very hard, we don’t quality for any federal, state or local government assistance because all of us at the op shop are volunteers and don’t receive jobkeeper. That excludes us. I’ve always been the biggest believer in the good of people and their generosity of spirit and today I had that reconfirmed 100 fold. Monday 2nd November we can open up again to the public but in the meantime, this stunning donation will help us stay on top of our bills. Thank you doesn’t seem enough but this lovely lady knows I’m so genuinely grateful for her thoughtfulness. See more

08.01.2022 For In My Heart Serendib Foundation 2020 was a year like no other. It brought with it many challengers and frustrations due to two lockdowns and restrictions on movement for myself and our volunteers. We had great plans that we’d get our sewing group who make sanitary pads up and running, we’d hold more parents and kids texta testing and pencil sharpening days through each of the school holidays, we’d be able to open up our pop up vintage shop at our factory. I planned on ma...king more connections with local schools with the idea of diverting unwanted education items to us therefore keeping them out of landfill and I’d be able to head off on my annual trip of giving to the children in Sri Lanka. But COVID19 struck and all of our plans were put into cotton wool. During this lockdown time, I’ve had numerous people make contact with me wanting to help us to continue with our donations of much needed education, sport and fun items. Drop offs were arranged at our factory headquarters which I’m still sorting through. You see, I also couldn’t do very much during lockdown #2 under stay at home orders. As we enter 2021, I’m so blessed to have had a number of parents from one local school contact me with the promise of heaps of donations so a day in January will be organised for a drop off. I’m also wanting to invite our interested sewing ladies to come back and continue to sew those much needed sanitary pads for the girls, parents and their teachers. As 2021 gets underway we’ll have lots of work to get done, catching up on what didn’t get done in 2020 so if you feel you could sharpen pencils, test texta’s and pens, pack pencil cases, sort donations or even sew, then I’d love to hear from you. Fingers crossed that Sri Lanka’s second wave of infections slows, a vaccine is available and I get to head to Sri Lanka this year. You see, these children and their families are desperately poor therefore the items we give each child including a new pair of school shoes and socks is very much needed by them now more than ever.

06.01.2022 We’re ready to go! Our sewing machines have been tested and tagged so we’re ready to get going with sewing our sanitary pads for the girls, Mums and teachers in Sri Lanka. I’m looking for volunteers who live close to Frankston and would be available for a couple of hours of a Monday between 10am -1pm who would love to help us sew our much needed sanitary pads. ... We have 3 sewing machines and 2 overlockers and a very simple but effective pattern. If you’re interested, I’d love to hear from you. Our factory HQ is at 10 Kitson Street Frankston.
