25.01.2022 Its amazing strength training has such a profound benefit on our overall health, reduce the risk of injury and lifestyle-related diseases, improve sporting or work performance. It's almost the 'panacea' to many issues everyone faces. But strength training is avoided by many as if it's the plague. ... One of the issues is doesn't provide the instant gratification compared to purchasing a new T.V. You won't see results straight away and if the willpower isn't there, you may never see the results. Confidence being in the gym seems to be a big area that many don't bother even starting. Not knowing what to do, how to begin, or even how the equipment even works. This is where experts in exercise and training help fill this gap. Providing the guidance, experience, and time needed to show you what is really required to do. If you're unhappy with your current health state, please DM us as we'll be able to provide the guidance ,experience and the results you need.

21.01.2022 As it gets colder in Melbourne, it can be more discouraging to get out to exercise/train. This also applies to sport training. The cold weather is more likely to increase the risk of injury if we’re not appropriately physically prepared to train. And if we overheat, we increase the risk of injury as well. Reason 1. The same warm-up you always perform is usually designed for ideal conditions. If we only spend 5 minutes warming up when it’s 8 degrees outside and no heating ind...oors, we can guarantee you won’t be warm at all. As your body temperature is lower, you’ll require more time to warm up to feel physically and mentally ready to train. So by extending the warm up period with more warm-up sets or some steady-state cardio to start may be ideal. Reason 2. When it’s warm/hot outside, the last thing we need is a warm-up that is long and dragged out. We’re more likely to reach fatigue faster compared to being in the cold. And in the heat, it becomes more important to mitigate our core temperature rising too high (think heatstroke). In the heat, we also decrease the time to fatigue vs. ideal conditions (not good). So keeping the warm-up specific and concise is ideal in these situations. Reason 3. It’s more enjoyable to have some variation in your warm-up. It can be an optimal time to introduce speed ladders into the warm-up when it’s cold (You’ll get a small sweat on!). When it’s hot, you want to spend the most time on what’s most important. Your training session becomes more concise and avoids any ‘filler’ exercises.

19.01.2022 You DON’T need to run laps around the field to warm up! The point of a warm up is to get individuals and athletes ready for the demands of training or game-day. Many sport coaches waste time by getting their athletes jogging around the field.. ... Yes this increases heart rate and warms up the muscles, but if your sport requires you to cover a large distance, you’ll want to make sure they're also efficient in their movement. It’s still common practice to see warm-ups begin with a lap around the field with the players showing sloppy running mechanics. This for us is an optimal opportunity to better deliver a structured warm up that gradually builds up in intensity and caters to the needs of the session. We’re currently working with @casey_warriors_rlc to improve their running speed and conditioning. So the goal of the warm-up is to: Mobilise and activate Improve running mechanics Develop overall motor control and coordination Mentally prepare the players for the session at hand All these outcomes will: Increase body temperature Show a better transfer of movement into drills during the session Help improve the overall quality of the session

19.01.2022 Here's a quick glance at the function of fat within our diet, the types of fat, and how imperative it is to our health.

16.01.2022 What you put in to and expose your body to will dictate what you get in return. We've started to teach the members at Inner Athlete to understand this idea of 'treat your body as a business' for longevity to continue to work in their chosen field. Your body and health what allows you to make money (and add value to society).... If you eat crap, have poor sleep, abuse your body, and don't look after yourself on a daily basis, your business (your body) will begin to show weaknesses. And, eventually breakdown later down the track. This means you'll have to spend heaps more money (Docs, medication, therapy), spend time on the sidelines (unable to perform work tasks), and you'll be limited to make money. This pattern usually repeats itself if no intervention is in place. You can fix this! When you treat your body as a business, you want to be running in tip-top shape, working efficiently, and improve productivity (and $$$). The areas of investment are training, good food, sleep, self-care, and having strong relationships with loved ones. When these areas are met, your productivity and output will improve! We all want more money, but not many of us are willing to invest in our health to continue to make money.

16.01.2022 Injuries suck when you get them when you’re playing or training in a sport you enjoy. It’s like someone taking the life from you. However, there is a strong ‘silver-lining’ when it comes to sustaining and overcoming injuries in sport and life. 1. It forces you to re-evaluate your current training routine. It breaks away from the monotony of what training can be and it gives you the opportunity to work on areas you would normally avoid... 2.You can develop resiliency. Injuries are a set-back and prevent us from making further progress. But it really becomes the ideal opportunity to overcome adversity. Once you have overcome the injury and are back playing, it becomes a very powerful learning lesson to help you overcome difficult periods in your life. 3. That you have more time on the sidelines, you can develop more mental and strategic aspects of your game/sport. Injured AFL and NRL players that are out for 4+ weeks usually assist with coaching duties and learn about the game from the coaches perspective. You can watch more film, provide insights from your POV, and continue to develop your game all at the same time. What other reasons can you think of?

14.01.2022 A lack of muscular strength is heavily correlated to many lifestyle related diseases, chronic conditions and increased risk of injury in the workplace and in sport. This also impacts everyone across their entire lifespan to varying degrees. For example, our elderly are more prone to trips, hip fractures and falls as they become older. The lack of muscular strength and power will further increase this risk. But why as a society we disregard the massive impact strength trainin...g and being physically strong? One of my guesses as to why is we heavily overvalue the current health care system to 'heal' us. We rely heavily on the need to take medications to control chronic conditions, see physio's to 'fix' us, and rely on diet pills and potions to bring down our weight. These are all short-term solutions to long-term problems. What are your thoughts?

14.01.2022 Acknowledged by DHHS of their Gold Standard health, hygiene and contract tracing, why is Dan Andrews not basing reopening of gyms sooner on real facts and data plus and his own government department!

13.01.2022 It's simple, not easy. The decline of physical exercise is getting greater. COVID has compounded it. Physical inactivity is so heavily linked to so many preventable physical/mental diseases and conditions.... The decline of physical exercise is getting greater. COVID has compounded it. Society is lazier, more stressed, overconsumption of food and alcohol, and relies on western medicine to fix us up. The good thing is we can individually take action. DM us today if you need to start taking the right steps to get your health in order.

06.01.2022 The secret sauce to sporting performance is... Visualisation. For those who don't know what visualisation is, it's the mental rehearsal of skills or tasks in your mind before executing them in the real world.... It's used by Pro athletes and high performing executives to get more out of their performance, training, and recovery. As competition returns back, we've been experimenting with different visualisation drills for our athletes before they start training or play any matches. Coach Nathan has been implementing this for our athletes to great success, just read the feedback! It's no gimmick, our mind can hinder or help us perform better. DM us if you're ready to get set for your sporting season next year!

05.01.2022 As Melbourne begins to open up, it's a timely reminder to continue to move well and properly prepare for when sport returns in the near future. If your son or daughter is wanting to be involved in the youth athlete development program and get physically ready for when sport returns, DM us today!

05.01.2022 Laziness is a leading driver to early death and puts unwarranted strain in the health care system. I would also label it as 'fix me culture.' An interesting piece from the @heraldsunphoto warning us the risk of being a 'sloth.'... Whilst being lazy is a big predictor of early death and morbidity, it's also our culture of overconsumption of food and alcohol, increase negative stresses in our lives/inability to deal with those stresses, and over reliance on the health care (disease management) system to 'fix' us is driving us to poorer quality of life. These are only some of the main factors we continue to see within society. What are your thoughts?
