06.01.2022 Transcendent Love The Bible says: In this was manifested the love of God toward us: that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live thro...ugh Him. Herein is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 1 John 4:9-11 But God commendeth his love towards us, in that, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us Romans 5:8 Jesus says: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 Transcendent Love I cannot tell how DEEP the love of Jesus, It passeth knowledge of my mental span; But still I know ‘tis DEEPER than the ocean, and able thus to lift the vilest man Chorus O love divine, all glorious, and all perfect, Possess this fainting soul of mine: Until I know in richer, fuller measure, that mighty matchless love of thine. I cannot tell how WIDE the love of Jesus, It far exceeds the bounds of human breath. But still I know ‘tis WIDER that the desert, And able thus to save the lost from death. Chorus I cannot tell how HIGH the love of Jesus, it sweeps above the vision of mine eye; But still I know ‘tis HIGH as HIGHEST heaven, and will embrace me in His home on high. Chorus I cannot tell how LONG the love of Jesus, it leaps beyond the frontiers of time; But still I know ‘tis LONG as God’s tomorrow, and thus will make eternity sublime. Chorus Lyrics- John G. 02.01.2022 On Celebrating Christmas The Bible says: One man esteemeth one day above another; another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his... own mind. He that regardeth one day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth, not that day, to the Lord doth he not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not and giveth God thanks. (Romans 14: 5-6). I love the Christmas season. I always have. It’s one of those unique and BIG God-given opportunities to share the love of Christ and the light of His Gospel with a dark and needy world. The Christmas season can also be a problematic subject for some, and the Christmas day of December 25th can be a controversial issue for others. For some the fact that the Christmas day celebration only received its official recognition in the mid-fifth century and observed as a holiday well after the biblical era, disqualifies it from being a real Christian celebration and therefore there’s really no need to celebrate it at all. For others, they point to the glaring and obvious errors of the unscriptural date, Santa Claus, the debts of spending, the evil of drinking, the lack of self-control, the anxiety and all the stress, etc etc, and therefore conclude that it is wrong for a believer to celebrate Christmas. Now I definitely share their concern how some naïve people, in this festive season, could easily; 1. Fail to see Christ for the Christmas tree, and/or 2. Focus on the burdens of the gifts rather than the blessings of the Giver, and/or 3. Follow Santa Claus rather than the Saviour Christ. However, according to the Scriptures, celebrating Christmas day, or any other day, and exchanging Christmas gifts does not need to be a controversial matter. It’s rather a matter of personal conviction and conscious issue, for the Bible clearly teaches us that One person regards one day as better as or more important than another, while another regards every day the same as any other. Let everyone be fully convinced, assured, and satisfied in his own mind. (Romans 14:5 AMP) So instead of wasting time debating WHETHER or not we can celebrate Christmas, (and it’s clear from the Scriptures that we can if we choose to do so), we do much better to invest time discussing HOW to celebrate Christmas in a way that is glorifying and honoring to the Lord. Let’s take advantage of the fact that the Christmas season opens the door wide for us to talk to our unsaved family and friends about the real person of Jesus Christ of the Bible and the purpose for his coming to earth to seek and save that which was lost. And those of us who are passionate about Gospel outreaches easily recognize that there is a real God-given value in the Christmas season for the church of Jesus Christ, particularly in nations around the world where the Gospel is not usually welcomed. The gift of Christmas presents us with at least two incredible opportunities year after year: 1.To TEACH the church about the LIFE of Christ, and 2.To REACH the community with the LOVE of Christ. One way we do that every year at our church is through our CAREling outreach.(It’s not a spelling mistake). In fact, this year, 2020, marks 44 years since I started the CAREling ministry. I called it CAREling not carOling, because it was initially a caring and singing ministry to the nursing homes in Sydney and beyond. Every Christmas season I take CAREling teams to visit and encourage as many nursing homes as possible, by singing Christmas carols and sharing the Gospel. We also did/ do the same in shopping centres and friends homes. In closing, may we then look beyond all the tinsel and glitter of the festive season, and encourage others to do the same, not by debating among ourselves whether or not to celebrate Christmas, nor by denying others, especially the children, the joy of Christmas , but rather by delivering the good news of the birth of Christ intact and in a way that is truthful, loving and gracious . Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Take Him as Your Saviour and Friend, Serve Him till the very end, Love Him with all your heart and Soul, Live Rejoicing Evermore. Evermore. (Isaiah 9:6 -additional Lyrics & Music Peter Rahme) . www.gracethrough.com.au
