24.01.2022 Are you feeling overwhelmed? No time to yourself? You are so busy running around after your kids, partner, keeping up with household chores there is just no time for you. Who is this you anyway outside of mum, wife, partner, employee...... Think back to what lights you up. What makes you you. What you want from the future. If you want to feel healthier, have more energy and be able to say yes to new adventures then try to aim for 1% better. Currently no time to exercise. Try just moving your body- start tracking your daily steps, do a home 5 minute workout/ movement. You want yo eat better but don’t know where to start- try adding greens to your meal, swap the soft drink for water. Before you know it you’ve already started creating change to be who you want. And it should be easy. Just add that one thing to your day that should take no more than 5 mins... 22.01.2022 What does self care look like to you? A spa day? An hour of alone time?... Me neither!! This is the real world. It can be 5 minutes to shower or go to the toilet alone before the kids are up. That home workout that you get in around kids sleep/ play time. That 10 mins you get to chop up some fruit or veggies for healthy snacks this week. It can be that 5 mins for cup of tea while the baby sleeps or the kids play or more likely fight Just make sure you allow yourself some time and it doesn’t have to be big. Just something you do consistently. For me, moving is a priority. It helps my mental health and reduces stress. And I love my greens I literally add them to everything (spaghetti bol with broccoli ?!) 14.01.2022 Have you set your goals or New Years resolution’s yet? Or already ‘failed’? Let’s stop tearing ourselves apart. Don’t set crazy unrealistic goals that will make you feel guilty, like you are missing out on life and just plain unhappy. Instead set small behaviours that align with your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, don’t just make your goal to lose 15kg by March 2021 for example. ... Instead, set daily or weekly behaviours or habits like getting enough good quality sleep, getting in more water, adding extra veggies to your meals. 13.01.2022 Do you feel you are held responsible for your body shape (as opposed to your hair colour or eye colour?)? We put this pressure on ourselves and project it onto others that hey it’s ok to be blonde or brown haired but not to be overweight or underweight... ‘Thin-ness’ is socially accepted as desirable. I mean how many of us ‘want to be thinner’?... Why is this so desirable? What does it enhance in our lives? Are we a better person, healthier, kinder, richer? None of these things are true. The weight on the scale is only a number. If you feel lethargic we need to fix that. If you are unhealthy, let’s fix that. If you are unhappy, let’s look at what is causing that (relationship, feelings of self worth, current situation) Getting ‘thinner’ won’t fix all your problems. Let’s really look at your goal. Why. How will your life be better after losing weight? 09.01.2022 Do you strive for perfection? Feel you don’t measure up to your or other’s expectations? I’ll let you in on a secret. Nobody is perfect. Yep, I said it. We all have good and bad days. We all make mistakes. It’s how we can LEARN and GROW from these that matters. My daughter refused to sleep last night (see this mornings post!) AND today. She usually has a good 2 hours across the middle of the day but today refused it. Was it my fault? Could I have done something different? D...oes that make me a bad mum? Of course none of those things are true but it doesn’t stop my mind going through- how come so and so has it so easy, how come so and so’s baby sleeps... why do we do it to ourselves? I was out walking in the heat of the day trying to get a few minutes of sleep so tonight is not a complete nightmare (I’ll report back how it goes) We all have those days. Whether something at work, our kids, relationships... You do it your way. We are all doing our best and some days (or nights) don’t go as planned. Learn from them. Can you change anything? Is it worth worrying about it? Tomorrow is a new day and you are doing just fine Our mumma tribe is so supportive and we all understand how hard the ‘mum’ gig is. You set your goal to 3 workouts a week but you got sick or you had a work meeting.... what do you do now? . It’s not if it’s when these things happen that you need your backup plan. 07.01.2022 You make time and funds available for what’s important to you. I always make time to feed my child. Many make time/ funds for their daily coffee Maybe you get your hair or nails done. ... You always make these things happen. If you are not moving your body or eating well ask yourself WHY? Do you not see the benefits. Is it not so important to you. Go back to your why. How will you feel if you start moving your body? What other benefits will you get- feel good, reduce back pain, be able to run around with your kids, reduce your risk of various diseases.... remember these when you ‘don’t feel like it’ or ‘can’t afford it’ Maybe you give up your daily cafe coffee in return for a gym membership or PT? Life is a balance. Make sure yours includes plenty of what fills your cup.
