25.01.2022 No comment....words can't describe how beautiful this beach is

25.01.2022 A cool Autumn morning.... I love waking to the sunrise streaming through my window. It is a nice way to wake on a cold morning. Take a few moments to notice the colours of the sunrise, even if it's cloudy and rainy, notice the noise outside. It's these small things we can feel grateful for and enjoy. That can set you up for a good day with low anxiety and stress, ready and able to deal with what comes your way. ... Also, waking to natural light helps to awake using your natural sleep cycle. Helping you feel more alert and less grumpy (I'm not a morning person!) What's your favourite thing to enjoy?

24.01.2022 Our coffee stop was at a new hotel in Sideman, on the eastern side of Bali. Might have to hold the next retreat here! Way too lovely and serene. @ Wapa di Ume Sidemen

23.01.2022 A change of view can change your view. My view from my hotel in QLD, Brisbane. Getting out of the usual and into a different environment can do wonders.... We often forget that we don't have to go to exotic places or overseas to have a holiday and relax. A short trip interstate, or to another landscape, can help unplug from our demands, allows us to have different sensory experiences and try new things and get out of our comfort zones. These experiences contribute to our overall happiness.

23.01.2022 At the end of our 2km walk, we stopped for refreshment and breakast with a lovely outlook onto rice fields and mountains in the distance. It was a great location for our second session where we discussed all things boundaries and friendships. Both are common sources of stress for women. Thank you ladies for letting me talk to you this morning. Wishing you all happy, healthy friendships! @ Karsa Spa

22.01.2022 Prefect winter's day for a walk through nature. I no longer call it an indulgent treat...this is my natural happy medicine. It keeps me connected to nature and my happy place! It calibrated me for a busy week where I need to be connected to others. This is how I charge my batteries. How do you charge yours?... Hope you are all having a great start to the week! @ Emerald Lake Park, Victoria, Australia See more

20.01.2022 Holiday project... trying to keep the Bali vibe going. After being in Ubud, around the beautiful green jungle, I decided I needed to finish off my project .... with a little (not so helpful) help! _________ Indoor plants are great for our wellbeing- our mental health and physical health. Some indoor plants help purify the air of nasties while also creating a calm space. __________ It is an inexpensive way to bring nature indoors and have a calm, safe space.

18.01.2022 We are now family! A group who travels together is forever connected....What a pleasure to be with you all amazing ladies @nidexalu 50shadesofage.com Bali.travel4women She Flies Solo @williavk @helmarj @ Telaga Waja River Bali

18.01.2022 On our way to East Bali and crossed TelagaTelaga River. The rice fields are beautiful and so green and lush. The air is fresh and it's nice to just breathe @ Telaga Waja River Bali

18.01.2022 Today started with an e-bike tour of the Ubud rice paddies, riding through the rice fields and villages. We passed a high school, a grave site where they bury their loved ones until they can cremate them. Then we rode to the heritage listed rice paddy- Tegallalang. ** We were then so fortunate to visit a villager's home. They live in 'compounds' with a number of families. Traditionally, the sons stay at home and the wife comes to live with his family. Each couple lives i...n their own home within the compound. Some may have separate kitchens or they share. There is something special about communal living, something we miss in the western world. ** I am so proud of all of us, giving this a go and taking on a new experience and adventure! @nidexalu 50shadesofage.com Bali.travel4women @williavk @helmarj @ Tegallalang, Bali, Indonesia

18.01.2022 A great reminder about the costs of 'fitting in'. . "Belonging is belonging to yourself first " .... True belonging doesn't require you to change who you are". . 18.01.2022 This afternoon we experienced Ancient Sound Healing held within a pyramid 1/16th the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza. "The rhythm, beats and vibrations of the gongs, drums and Didgeridoo in combination with the scent of the sandalwood and peaceful atmosphere in the Pyramids of Chi reduce beta-wave brain waves that dominate aroused conscious thought, and increase the intensity of theta-waves within the brain, which introduces deep relaxation and increased awareness of in...ner-self." Everyone has a different experience. I found it deeply relaxing- mind and body and with little effort. The sounds were amazing to hear and to notice the different ways each sound felt. It was a great way to continue our group session this morning. @ Pyramids of Chi, Bali

18.01.2022 Missing these lovely ladies! On our last night before our last dinner together, we took a moment to reflect on our 6 days together, our many discussions around self-care, boundaries and friendships. They will receive their letters in the post soon as a reminder to live their insights. ... @nidexalu @50shadesofage @bali.travel4women @shefliessolo @williavk @helmarj

16.01.2022 What a surprise! Practice actually makes you better at something! This was my 3rd attempt in my 5th class. .. Our mind doesn't like sitting with uncomfortable feelings, and for those who are on the perfectionist side, not being good at something quickly is very uncomfortable. So it is easier to avoid things. But then we miss out of the joy of discovering new experiences.... .. Bring some new joy into your life, try something new or different and give yourself some time to explore, investigate, wonder, try and discover! .. Oh...and it's fun to get your hands dirty and make a mess! .. ... .... #psychologist #melbournepsychologist #psych #psychology #insightfulliving #insightfulness #insight #personalinsight #mindsight #mindbodysoul #healthyhappylife #selfgrowth #personalgrowth #personaldevelopment #selfawareness #reslience #healthymind #holisticliving #holisticmentalhealth #mentalhealth #emotionfocussedtherapist

15.01.2022 It was easy to stay warm indoors this morning, but I'm so glad I got out and did a group hike. I would have missed this view...and the other marvels of nature! .. I also connected with other people, soaked up the clear air, the sharp cold air made me feel alive and I got my dose of rich green nature. ..... If we leave it chance, we can miss a lot of the world around us. We need to make conscious decisions about what our view will be. You can be rewarded! .. .. .. #melbournepsychologist #psychologist #psych #mindfulness #mindful #therapy #nature #

13.01.2022 Definition of Adventure- an unusual and exciting or daring experience. .. .. We think of them as big travel endeavours or high risk activities. Yet the reality is we can enjoy unusual, exciting and daring experiences every day. ... .. .. Today, mine was as small as trying something new. I'm a bit late on the Chai train, I know! I just haven't been game enough to try it. I love my coffee too much! .. .. Our habits keep us safe. Some of us are more adventurous than others- looking for new experiences, trying new things. There's no right or wrong. But being aware of how our habits limit us, allows us to experiment with the softer edges of our limits. .. .. An Australian psychologist and author, George W Burns, encourages people to experience adventure. One suggestion from his book- Standing Without Shoes- is to be a sensation seeker. Try new things and experiences. .. .. Trying something new reconnects us with the feeling of curiosity and excitement. Those feelings young children have on a regular basis. Curiosity and excitement are aspects of joy. As adults we are often easily starved of these positive and important emotions. And life becomes boring, ho-hum, dull, monotonous, tired.....blah. I hear this a lot from my clients and I know how this feels. .. .. So what will you do differently today? #psychologist #melbournepsychologist #psych #psychology #insightfulliving #insightfulness #insight #personalinsight #mindsight #mindbodysoul #healthyhappylife #selfgrowth #personalgrowth #personaldevelopment #selfawareness #reslience #healthymind #holisticliving #holisticmentalhealth #mentalhealth #emotionfocussedtherapist

11.01.2022 Last night was the 3rd class for pottery Wheel Throwing. We learnt how to trim the base and colour our creations. Can't wait to see what they look like after they have been fired (cooked)! . I enjoyed this class ....less focus on getting it 'perfect' , instead it was about fixing and improving. . My 'perfectionist' part comes out in full force at these classes. I know I am learning, I know I have never done this before, I know it takes time to practice a skill. Yet Miss Pe...rfection keeps telling me how it isn't perfect and always pointing out the flaws. . Being mindful of this internal chatter allows me to notice her noise and choose what to pay attention to. The pay off with perfectionism is that it makes you work hard, but.... at what cost? I wanted to enjoy this class which is meant to be fun! So I politely asserted myself and refocused on my aim- that was to enjoy learning a new skill, to have fun making something (anything!), listen to the good music on and talk to the others in the class. And remind myself to be patient while I learn! . I have enjoyed it so much, I have booked myself in for the next round of classes. . 10.01.2022 We visited a tradition village that has remained untouched by modern technology. They maintain their gardens and have an amazing array of unique flowers! A lady invited us into her family's home, with their kitchen, family temple, and where they raise their own pigs. Such friendly people! @ Penglipuran Traditional Village

09.01.2022 Today was the first morning of our Women's Wellness Retreat. Started with Yoga, a lovely breakfast and then a group session by the pool, set against a beautiful jungle backdrop. Today's session was focussed on exploring what stops women from taking care of themselves, from always putting others first. ... We all know 'intellectually' that we should take care of our health and wellbeing, but when we do, so many women talk about feeling guilty. Today's session was the attempt to start building awareness and smashing through all the expectations others have of us. It's not easy, sometimes others don't like it when we don't oblige their needs or demands. But that's ok. They will get with the new program. @ Adiwana Resort Jembawan

09.01.2022 Spent a couple hours being a tourist in the city today. It took about 20 minutes to get used to the fact I didn't have to factor anyone else (aka kids) in my decisions. I enjoyed walking into shops that sparked my interest. It is a small luxury working mothers get! .. I was so excited when I walked into a bookstore (to get my geek on!) and found this display of all things Frida Khalo!! She was a bad-ass woman who challenged stereotypes and the status-quo....that takes a lot ...of bravery and courage. Plus, I love her artwork! .. I wonder what my next stop will uncover?! .. When was the last time you wandered around and explored your city? We can experience all types of avdenture in our own backyards! Try something new.... I dare you! #psychologists #psychology #psych #melbournepsychologist #mindfulness #gratitude #grateful #mentalhealth #wellbeing #holistichealth #wellness #emotions

07.01.2022 Last night I tried my hand at Wheel Throwing! I have newfound respect for pottery...so much harder than it looks. But also so much fun! Tuning into your hobbies, passions and interests is a great way to keep balance in your life. I often suggested clients get back in touch with what they used to enjoy...perhaps before the seriousness of life started. Or, just try something new, something you may have always wanted to give a go. ... If for no other reason but to have fun, challenge yourself, maybe even find your calling! But you may also meet new people! 07.01.2022 We walked 2kms of Campuhan Ridge that passes over the lush valley of the Sungai Wos River. We were lucky to have a clear day and could see Mount Agung in the distance. We passed small village houses surrounded by rice fields and their local temples. @ Campuhan Ridge Walk

04.01.2022 So another week has begun, and a weekend ended. The days roll around so fast, full with things to do and places to be, often for other people in our lives (I.e. our kids, bosses/clients). It can be so hard to take some time for yourself. Today I booked myself in for a hike with a small group and in my favourite place. Just seeing the trees, hearing the birds and trees moving and smelling the earth and trees, makes me slow down and relax. I have come to know that this is the best way for me to relax. Some like yoga or quiet baths, it's about finding what works for you. Then it's about making an appointment with yourself and prioritising what you need. #selfcare #selfcareinnature #nature #hike

04.01.2022 Happy Easter to those who are celebrating today.

03.01.2022 To all the Mothers, Step Mothers, Foster Mothers, Grandmothers.... Happy Mother's Day! Happy Mother's Day for all the mothers who aren't with us. You are forever and always a mother. Thinking of all the mothers who find this day very difficult ... #Happymothersday

02.01.2022 **CW/ TW It has been a tough week for humans in Australia and New Zealand. With the Cardinal Pell verdict, Bruce Ristevski's confession and the heinous attacks in NZ, we have been exposed to some of the worst of humanity. ____________ It's ok if you are feeling sensitive, it means you are an empathetic person. Be gentle with yourself and others. If it is getting too much, stop watching the news and listening to conversations. Politely excuse yourself, or tell others you can...'t hear more about it. ___________ If you are feeling triggered, try to focus on your breathing and ground yourself- wriggle your toes, bring your attention to your 5 senses. It may be a good opportunity to speak to someone- a trusted person or psychologist. It is also important to be mindful of children and young people around when conversations are happening. It would feel like a very scary world to them right now and they may feel anxious. Give them lots of reassurance and love. *CW - Content Warning *TW- Trigger Warning #selfcare #grounded #breathe

01.01.2022 It was a pretty busy relaxing day today! We all had a treatment at the hotel spa- a facial or massage. Regular body treatments, like massages, can really help alleviate stress and tension. @ Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

01.01.2022 Lest We Forget. Lest we forget those who sacrificed the greatest for our freedom. Lest we forget those who forever wore the trauma of war.... Lest we forget the families forever impacted and broken from the trauma of war. #ANZAC #ANZACday

01.01.2022 We visited a non-profit organization that helps educate kids in one of the poorest area of Bali. We had to brush up on our English! We helped them learn about adverbs. It is hard enough studying your own language, let alone a second language. The kids did so well! The IHF relies on volunteers. Pete is from the UK, soon to pursue a career in teaching. The world is a better place for the volunteers that do such great work. Thank you! And such a rewarding way to give back to our greater community. @ International Humanity Foundation, Bali

01.01.2022 You are more than...your age, your size, your qualifications, your clothes, your car, your past learnings..... while they may be part of your life and history, they don't define you. .. You can choose how you will define yourself. How you want to be, for yourself. .. Spend the weekend exploring these things about yourself. Get out of the routine, shake things up and choose things that are right for you..not how you think others expect you to be. It will feel weird and unc...omfortable, and that's good! Have fun! #psychologist #psychology #melbournepsychologist #counselling #thriving
