22.01.2022 Home Owner Tip #101 Mature trees next to the house can create privacy and shade, but there are some risks associated.. When planting trees in your yard, consider their mature height, the leaves they shed and the location in proximity to the house. Having trees close to the building can lead to problems such as: - leaves blocking gutters and downpipes... - trees falling onto the house - tree roots undermining the building footings and plumbing services. - branches / foliage touching the house can create an opportunity for potential termite entry See more

22.01.2022 Week 7 Update: Really excited to see our RedCross Bushfire Appeal total grow to $2,300.00 after another busy week for our inspectors. One more week to go for the final tally of two months donations toward helping affected Aussies.... Hope everyone in Townsville is enjoying their wet weekend!

22.01.2022 Weve noticed a spike in the presence of termites in the properties weve inspected over the last couple of weeks. Here are some doozies weve come across inside, underneath and in the gardens of several different properties in the past week We urge you to have a look around your house for any signs of activity - termites are extremely active in these damp, humid weather conditions. Call us with any questions, feel free to send us any pictures of concern, or engage us to come out to your property to carry out a full timber pest inspection.

21.01.2022 Nice start to the day first job Magnetic island.

21.01.2022 Yes - we install chemical termite barriers! A chemical treatment is the most common treatment type available for subterranean termites. The goal of a subterranean termite chemical treatment is to establish a continuous termiticide barrier between the termite colony (usually in the soil) and timber in a building. This is done by placing termiticide in the soil around the foundation elements to provide a barrier preventing termites from entering the structure. Technicians trench the soil and inject termiticide beneath it. This creates a protective barrier around the property and has a life expectancy of up to 8 years. 20.01.2022 General Maintenance Tip of the Week ** Check sealants and grouts to all wet areas i.e bathroom, toilet, laundry, kitchen splashbacks. Deteriorated or poorly applied sealants can cause leaking and lead to underlying timber rot and decay.

19.01.2022 During building & pest inspections we often find damage and decay due to moisture, which can often be prevented with good house maintenance practices. Leaky roofs, roof gutters, and plumbing can cause compromise to building materials, not to mention provide an attractive food source for termites. To minimise damage and decay to timber structures and other building components, you should pay regular attention to: - Leaky plumbing - Downpipes dispersing away from the building -... Ensure paintwork / sealants are intact - Presence of mould Good maintenance practices will help add value to your home when you choose to sell! See more

18.01.2022 We definitely come across some sights when inspecting roof voids. The owner of this property was extremely fortunate not to have lost their home to a fire. We cannot stress enough the importance of not covering your down lights with insulation. Book an inspection today.

18.01.2022 General Maintenance Tip of the week- Avoid having timbers, posts, stairs, cladding etc. in direct contact with the ground. This will help reduce the risk of termites and timber rot.

17.01.2022 When you climb onto the roof during an inspection and look up to see this sleepy guy what a lucky start to the day for Brett!

17.01.2022 Moisture and water discharge from Air Conditioners and downpipes can cause footing movement and attract termite activity. It is good building practice to divert all drainage at least one metre away from the building.

15.01.2022 UPDATE: After a tally of this weeks inspections, the total monetary donations for the Red Cross bushfire appeal is now at $880.00 with five weeks to go. Woohoo!

11.01.2022 Upon inspection of this roof void, we didnt expect to find the range hood exhaust to be in a finished state dispersing heat, fumes and grease within the roof space A little extra effort to redirect the duct out of the roof space would see this installation completed to a satisfactory level and eliminate the risk of fire.

02.01.2022 Building cracks. How serious are they? We have owners concerned about cracking to their properties so the following CSIRO chart is how we classify damage with reference to walls: ** Hairline cracks (<0.1 mm) - damage category 0.... **Fine cracks which do not need repair (<1 mm) - damage category 1. **Cracks can be repaired and possibly a small amount of wall will need to be replaced. Doors and windows stick. Service pipes can fracture. Weathertightness often impaired (<5 mm) - damage category 2. **Cracks can be repaired and possibly a small amount of wall will need to be replace. Doors and windows stick. Service pipes can fracture. Weathertightness often impaired (5-15mm, or a number of cracks 3mm or more in one group) - damage category 3. **Extensive repair work involving breaking-out and replacing sections of walls, especially over doors and windows. Window and door frames distort. Walls lean or bulge noticeably, some loss of bearing in beams. Service pipes disrupted (15-25mm but also depends on number of cracks) - damage category 4.

02.01.2022 Gardens like this (abutting the house, woodchip throughout, damp soil) certainly make for an attractive food source and an ideal habitat for termites. Because of the proximity, termites may then enter your property if it is unprotected or there is a breach in the protection system e.g foliage touching exterior above ground level. It may be worthwhile considering your garden configuration or calling us regarding termite protection systems and how we can help you keep the termites away!
