23.01.2022 Day 258 of #move365 - Strength Today’s post is brought to you by the letters M for mental and H for health. It’s quite ironic as today’s session was gym/strength and I was the complete opposite of strong today. A huge anxiety attack this morning saw me dressed and ready for work with car keys in hand but unable to get in the car. I just froze, unable to face anyone and the day ahead. For a change I put myself first, went back to bed and slept for another 7 hours - this is how... I reset my mind and my body, everyone is different but it works for me. Even though RUOK day was last week, today just goes to show how important it is to keep an eye on your mental health every day. I hope that by being honest and opening up with my own issues it will encourage other people to take the first step to open up to someone about their own experiences too. My anxiety this morning hit me like a hammer. Thankfully my #move365 challenge was a reason to actually get up and do something today, and it made me feel better. 21.01.2022 Did you eat some watermelon with your Tailwind and suddenly feel sick? You might have suffered from what's called "fructose malabsorption". Some people cannot ...completely absorb fructose in their small intestine-the beginning part of the digestive tract. The undigested fructose is then carried to the colon (large intestine) where our normal bacteria rapidly devour it. In the process, the bacteria produce gases which cause the intestine to swell. This is experienced by the person as bloating, cramping, gas and distention. Diarrhea may also occur due to the undigested particles of fructose. Everyone is different and some folks are fine absorbing larger amounts of fructose, but it is definitely something to be aware of during your epics. 20.01.2022 Medal Monday is brought to you today courtesy of the Hervey Bay 100 - the event hashtag is spot on! A hard day at the office yesterday. Here’s my race recap: Swim - bloody awful. Choppy AF, it was reduced to a 1.5km swim on Saturday due to the expected conditions. To get out to the first buoy was a battle and as I approached the second I was considering pulling the pin. A lot of mental chat and arguing with myself got me to the next buoy, and so on until I turned back toward...s the beach and could see freedom! I was determined not to mentally give up like I did during the run leg of the Mooloolaba OD back in March. Bike - 4 x 20km laps. First lap I was still arguing with myself and my legs were like concrete from the amount of time spent sighting in the water. Half way through the second lap I started to get into it. It’s pretty much a slight incline one way with a headwind and after the steepish hill it’s a bit of a decline coming back into town. Run - 3 laps. The partly shaded run was hot and only got hotter once the much welcomed cloud cover lifted. Aid stations were great and well stocked, especially with ice. I even managed a quick loo stop too. Luckily the run course was slightly more than the planned 18km so we hit the 100km mark. I was really happy with my nutrition prep before and on race day. Fuelled by Tailwind and Precision Hydration I was energised and didn’t have any signs of cramp. Perfect combo! Huge well done to the race organisers for a great event, and a huge thank you to all of the volunteer support provided throughout the day. The free massage from the @tafeqld students was so good post race too. 14.01.2022 Day 271 of #move365 - Race day This weeks daily exercise challenge wrapped up today on day 271 with my first short course triathlon for 4 years and holy moly I was petrified - but as always once I get started I throughly love it. I’ve just got to get past the nerves. The swim wasn’t as bad as it could have been for me, I found it tricky coming in as the sun was low and it was hard to sight, and the swim exit wasn’t very clear so aiming for the right part of the beach was h...ard but I made it. Then came T1, absolute nightmare as I couldn’t get the wetsuit off my legs - zero practice of doing this so only to be expected but I wasn’t happy with a 4 minute transition. Bike leg was great despite the head wind, thankfully T2 was much prettier than T1 at 1m 27 secs. Run leg was awesome, my plan of holding it steady for the first 3km the winding it up on the last 2km worked a treat with an average of 4:44/km, and most importantly I finished in time to see Dan take part in the Kool Kids Tri. Triathlon is a great sport but if you’re not an early bird it can be a very long day. With a 4am alarm on a Sunday morning it’s worth the early start to see the amazing sunrise and the opportunity to take part in such a great event as we did today. A huge well done to @theventcrew and @qldtriseries for putting on a great round 1 event. 05.01.2022 Day 264 of #move365 - Bike After a shaky start the week turned out ok. I wrapped the week up with a 15km run, an open water swim and a 90 minute Kickr set over the past two days. The weather is certainly starting to warm up here in Brisbane with training sessions turning into a sweat fest. I missed out on the last sodium concentrate sweat test last weekend so I’m looking forward to getting mine done on Saturday 3 October. ... We all sweat differently and it’s important to know how much sodium we lose so we can ensure our levels are maintained during training, racing and even for those who work in hot conditions, particularly during the warmer months.
