24.01.2022 Finding the time and healthy ways to relieve stress as a busy, working Mum can be tough. One way that I like to is with focused mindful tea meditation. It only requires 5 minutes. ... I love to do this technique not only for its benefits to help untangle from anxiety, pessimism and negative self-talk, but also as it allows me to appreciate the qualities of each of the individual herbs I like to use in my herbal tea formulations for my clients. Focused meditation takes us away from our tendency to multitask, where we can end up feeling frazzled and unaccomplished and gives us permission to focus our energy on one task. Prepare your cup of tea and find a nice space to sit and enjoy it. The task is to focus on drinking your cup of tea. As easy as it sounds. Sitting and doing only one thing is actually more of a challenge then youd expect. Notice as much as you can about your cup of tea as you drink it. What colour is it? How does it smell and taste? How does the cup feel in your hand? Is there steam? How does the temperature feel as you touch it to your lips, swallow and swish it around in your mouth? As other thoughts arise, simply acknowledge them and return your attention to your cup of tea. When youve finished the cup of tea if you desire you can jot down in a journal how you feel and record your experience.

23.01.2022 National Farm Safety Week July 20-25. Head to farmsafe.org.au for a bundle of resources and videos on how to keep you and your kids safe on farms. I know I can sometimes be a tad nonchalant about this, albeit unintentional. I am reminded however that accidents do happen, and staying safe is the best way to prevent accidents from occurring. ... I will take a moment to talk to my girls about the importance of staying safe, and always being careful when around water, bikes and vehicles on the farm, especially when friends are visiting. #inspiredsafefarms #farmssafeaustralia #farmsafety #mareebanaturopath #kidssafety #mareebasafefarms #mareebanutritionist #inspiredhealthcentre #inspiredhealthyhabits #farmsafetyweek

22.01.2022 That moment where you meet your baby for the first time! Best feeling in the world!!! It took me 18 months and two miscarriages to fall pregnant with my second baby. There are so many factors that allow the body to fall pregnant, one important one I learnt, is that it is not all about having a healthy body, but also a healthy mind. I had to stop focusing on it so much; fertility MAGIC is trusting your dreams ARE coming true, and sometimes just letting things be. With... my second pregnancy, I didnt have morning sickness and nausea but rather a food aversion which went from the 6th to 10th week, the only foods I could eat were rice, bacon and avocado, a bit of fruit and my chia puddings in the morning. My second pregnancy was a busy and stressful time for me as I was close to finishing my 3 Adv Diplomas, and was studying and driving a lot to attend clinic hours in order to finish before the baby arrived. I loved being pregnant and was doing my best to enjoy every minute of it. I was apprehensive about the birth though, as I didnt want it to be anything like my first, 30-hour traumatic labour. Im not somebody to sit back and see if the same thing happens again though, I was going to do everything I could to make sure it didnt. Id learnt my lesson from my first pregnancy, not to lift heavy items and I am grateful for that as I didnt have the leg cramps and sciatica, as I did with the first. From 32 weeks, I began taking an infusion of certain herbs which helped to prepare and tone the uterus for labour. Not long after starting the daily herbal teas, my Braxton hicks contractions started, or as I like to describe them tightenings, where my belly would go hard and tight. In effect, it was the smooth muscles of my uterus strengthening and practising for labour. I also took certain homeopathic remedies each day, 1 week prior to my due date, to help labour start around my due date and not 11 days after like when I went into labour with my first. Due to several risk factors, I suffered from PND following the birth of my first daughter. I was determined not to go through this again. Ensuring I did not become nutritionally depleted in pregnancy and following the birth during the 4th trimester was critical to this. I was eating whole foods along with taking a liquid iron supplement, a daily multivitamin, high-quality fish oils and specific probiotics which reduce the risk of your baby developing allergies in the first year. Stay tuned, as Im going to share more of my home birth story with you tomorrow.

22.01.2022 I have some EXCITING NEWS Im at the beginning stages of creating a program for Mummies in the Making who are looking to restore their normal menstrual cycles after coming off the pill and ultimately prepare their body for pregnancy, and Im looking for five volunteers to answer some questions. Are you looking to start trying to fall pregnant in the next 4-12 months? Do you want to be at your optimum health to assist your body in making the best quality ...eggs in preparation for pregnancy? Has your menstrual cycle been irregular or absent since coming off the pill? Perhaps you are experiencing niggling symptoms like bloating, constipation/diarrhea, skin blemishes, moodiness, anxiety, brain fog? If so I really want to speak with you! We are so inundated with information these days, and I want my program to zero in on the BEST information, tips and resources that are THE MOST helpful and easy for my clients to follow in every day (busy) life. I already have the bones for this program, but before I put the finishing touches on it, I want to get real-life input from Hopetobe Mums who are struggling with getting their cycle back on track, addressing their niggling symptoms and want to give their body the best chance of falling pregnant. I have used my own lived experience of when I was a Hopetobe Mum to help formulate the program and I know how much the dream of motherhood can be all-consuming especially if your period is absent or irregular, or if pregnancy has simply just not happened yet. So if youre interested or know anyone who is, Im hoping you can spare some time to either, have a confidential conversation with me or if youd prefer, to simply complete a questionnaire for me. And by volunteering you are not committed to doing the program, although you can if youd like. Basically, Id like to pick your brain. All of the information you share is strictly confidential and will only be seen and used by me as I put together my program. Please PM me or reply in the comments to let me know whether youd be happy to have a conversation or whether youd prefer to complete a questionnaire. I am happy to set up a Zoom meeting at a time that suits both of us if you are happy for a conversation. Or alternatively, I can send you a questionnaire if you prefer. All I ask is that you take your time to fill in the answers and send it back to me by the 15th of August. Im really excited about putting the finishing touches on this program and your input is much appreciated! P.S. As a thank you for your input and time, I would like to gift a Jaques Coffee Online Shop offer of Buy 1 250g bag of coffee get one 1 Free.

20.01.2022 Flashback to this years #Natex2020, when social distancing wasnt a thing yet. Thank you @tammyguests for your business support in these COVID-19 times, they have been hugely valuable. Big thanks also to my fellow naturopaths @the.mindful.mummy (pictured), @ingridmasi_naturopathy @traceymcleanherbalist, @simplyhealingkuranda @amymingin - just to name a few. ... I absolutely love being a part of the natural medicine industry and having the pleasure of working alongside such amazing people who just like me has a passion and a purpose to inspire health and wellness in people interested in living as their best selves.

19.01.2022 Leftover duck medley! In case youre wondering, that strange morsel is a duck wing - not a deep-fried embryo Ohh and a frozen stock cube. The vibrant pop of purple is thanks to Hawaiian sweet potato. ... There is no real recipe to this, I just throw in a medley of vegetables, with stock, some good quality fish sauce, some extra garlic a dried herb of choice and its good to go!

19.01.2022 I thought Id share some inspiration on budget-friendly, healthy yummy food options that I like to have on hand in my pantry and fridge/freezer. My favs are:- Frozen mixed berries anti-inflammatory and high in antioxidants - added to granola/oat bowls, or munched on straight from the freezer. Wholegrain brown rice a source of protein, fibre and magnesium as a side dish. Lentils high in B vitamins, folate, protein and fibre. Lentil stews can be a great side to any me...al. Natural peanut only butter a source of healthy fats and protein. Rolled oats nourish the nervous system and is full of complex fibres, vitamins and minerals, helping you to stay fuller for longer. Extra virgin olive oil store in a medium-size amber bottle to reduce rancidity. Provides a source of healthy fats when drizzled on bowls like in the picture. Canned sardines/salmon as a source of protein; Slow-cooked cheap cuts of meat as a source of protein, beef cheeks, chicken, turkey, lamb shoulder. Frozen vegetables spinach, broccoli, beans, mushrooms, pumpkin. Almonds provide healthy fats, protein and fibre. Fresh fruit apples, pears and bananas. See more

18.01.2022 Our adventure in nature on Sunday was to explore Lake Eacham. A beautiful 3km walk to suit the whole fam. The track even accommodated the baby jogger, so Felicity could have little rests when she needed it. I lost track of time and Im not sure how long we took, but our aim was to stop and find as many cool things in nature as we could.... We finished the walk with a quick dip in the lake. It was hella cold, but so invigorating and worth it!

18.01.2022 Felicitys birth story continued... Check out my last two posts, if you havent yet before you read any further. It was at about 10.10 pm when I was moaning and groaning through my contractions that my Husband suggested we head into the hospital. Yeah, probably a good idea, I thought and agreed. As my Husband began running around getting everything together and into the car, I had a sudden urge to go to the bathroom. I thought it might just be another bowel movement tryi...ng to get out the way. I was on the toilet, when my Husband came in on the phone to the midwife. I called out that I didnt know if I was pushing out a baby or a poo. It was such a different pushing sensation to my first birth. My midwife hearing me through a contraction, asked for me to put my hand down and see if I could feel the babys head, I was astonished to realise babys head was just there and I could indeed feel it. The midwife told us we werent going anywhere and to call the ambulance. I remember the look on my Husbands face, as his body gave him a shot of adrenaline with the realisation that we were going to have the baby, at home, in our bathroom, here and now. He wasnt in a panic. He didnt think there was any state of emergency he was quite calm as he asked the midwife "whats the number for the ambulance?" It still makes me chuckle thinking about it. The midwife told him to put towels on the ground, so in a hurry, he grabs the towels on the rack from yesterday to put on the floor. I had to say "honey, youve got to go get clean towels!", so he sprints off down the hallway to get some clean towels. On my Husbands phone we had the midwife and on my phone the ambulance. Realising that we were going to have this baby at home, was wonderfully empowering, with a sense of euphoria even, I completely trusted the process and my ability to birth our baby. As I began pushing on all fours during each contraction, we had some more funny moments. We had the ambulance officer telling me I needed to push really hard and not to stop, while at the same time my midwife was telling me to listen to my body and push only as much as I needed to. They were both on speaker, our midwife and ambulance officer could hear the other giving contradicting instructions. I could hear their frustration, as they tried to speak over each other to give me the right guidance. My body was doing what it needed to do regardless, without much input from me, so I just chuckled to myself and let them be.

18.01.2022 Under the microscope, these cells almost look like party balloons. But, in reality, this is - the common parasite that silently lives in many people's drinking water. Unfortunately, Giardia parasites hide in lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, tank water, public water supplies and more. It affects people of all ages but can spread easily in children. Giardia can attach itself to the small intestine's walls, near the stomach, where it has the ability to produce even MORE pa...rasites and create a 'family'. Yuk!! This means treatment needs to be comprehensive and ideally completed by a Gut Health specialist, such as myself. Symptoms include diarrhoea, bloating, flatulence, foul-smelling poop, stomach cramps, nausea, tummy upsets, dehydration. 17.01.2022 How have you been spreading Christmas cheer this year? Stay tuned because I am going to be announcing a special offer in the New Year, a chance to work with me that you don't want to miss!

17.01.2022 You are more than just human, you are a super-meta-organism!!! I love to boggle my mind with these facts. In terms of numbers, you are composed of 10% human DNA cells and 90% microbial cells. ... Your microbiota is unique to you - just like your iris and fingerprints. Your microbiota/microbiome functions like an organ and weighs approx 1-1.5kg. Your microbiota rivals the liver in the number of biochemical reactions it participates in and contributes to. Amazing!

17.01.2022 Herb of the day time! Thank you @tennilletrimble for providing this great photo of the Lemon Balm (Melissa Officinalis) you have growing in your garden. This is truly one of my fav herbs to make a tea with, in fact, hold that thought, I am going to go make myself one now. Medicinally lemon balm is used to lift spirits, revive vitality, and as a tonic for the heart and emotions. It has a strengthening and soothing effect on the nervous system, to help alleviate hear...t palpitations, headaches, anxiety, depression, indigestion, vertigo, colic, and is a great calming herbal tea for adults and children. Next time you have a grumpy, stressed kid or teenager on your hands, try chilled lemon balm added to apple juice and call it your special happy drink. The essential oil of lemon balm is also highly revered and has demonstrated antiviral properties, antibacterial, antihistamine along with its nervine, sedative and tonic properties. Dont forget to add Lemon Balm to your cooking. The sweet lemon flavour adds flavour to meat, savoury and sweet dishes. The options are endless. Simple suggestions include added to your fruit salad, or a sprig atop avocado on toast. Yum yum.

17.01.2022 Signing off for the year 2020! I'll be taking some time out of the clinic starting from tomorrow the 10th Dec and will return Wednesday 6th of January. It's truly been a pleasure and a privilege guiding all my wonderful clients on their wellness journey this year as I've been a part of some amazing transformations and healing. I've had the honour of assisting parents on their fertility journey and the delight of welcoming new babies into creation. ... Though I aim to be on the down-low during this time, I'm not in total radio silence, you can still reach me via email if you have any urgent questions or would like to book an acute 15-30min online/phone appointment. I'll endeavour to answer emails as soon as I can, however, there may be a delay in reply, as I'll likely be busy playing with my kids at the beach. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season, and inspired health for the new year! Xoxo

16.01.2022 This is just one reason why YOU may be able to tolerate a drink from the local watering hole, but someone else finds it sends them to the bathroom - pronto! Your gut microbiome relates to the trillions of microorganisms living in the intestines. It's health and ability to help you feel good is influenced by: - what you eat - where you grew up... - if you were breastfed - your water supply. Essentially, it's your unique gut microbiome that influences how susceptible you are to getting symptoms from the bacteria/parasites/nasties in the water. And if you live in a rural area like me (Mareeba, North Qld) where tank water is the norm, you need to be proactive in keeping your water clean and periodically supporting your gut health. This is key to helping your body and mind feel good in the long term. . . . #guthealth #mareebanaturopath #healthtip #tankwater #farmlife

16.01.2022 If truth is your pursuit you have to be willing to step out of your world and explore anothers. Really make an effort to see and understand somebody elses point of view, even when you feel you might disagree with that point of view. There is nothing wrong with having a 100% belief in your own or somebody elses perspective, and there is absolute truth in each and every perspective. ... You have to accept that there is also truth in anothers perspective, and because of this your perspective or the one you believe in is unlikely to be 100% the truth. So where is the truth found, if it indeed can be found? Truth in its nature is often obscure but is likely to reside somewhere in the middle of different perspectives.

14.01.2022 Do you crave sweet foods? Do you have low energy during the day but become a night owl at night? Do you find it difficult to feel calm even in a yoga or meditation class? Do you have painful periods? Do you feel as though you are constantly racing from one task to the next, and have a neverending to-do list? ... Do you use caffeine to perk yourself up during the day and use wine to soothe your nerves in the evening? Do you feel shaky or light-headed if you go too long without eating? If you answered yes to 3 or more of these questions, chances are you could have a cortisol imbalance and would benefit from a consult where I can help you create a plan to establish healthy hormonal balance. Cortisol is a hormone produced by your adrenal glands in response to perceived stress and in todays fast-paced lifestyles this stress can often continue for days and months or even years UNLESS you take some action to counter-balance the stress. Cortisol is the marathon cousin of adrenaline. It is a hormone designed to work over a longer period than adrenaline but continues to give your muscles extra energy to run away from a dangerous threat such as a tiger, whilst your trekking through the bush for 30 days. In todays world chronic high levels of cortisol is produced because we cannot easily escape perceived threats such as an overbearing boss or overwhelming to-do lists and they rarely involve actually needing to run away. This excess energy is felt as restlessness and irritability in your body. DM if you would like to find out more about how to balance your cortisol levels.

11.01.2022 Even babies instinctively know that a bit of roughage in the diet is a good thing. Sure she might have a look of uncertainty, but the important thing is she tried it. Once she acquires a taste for it and realises how good it makes her feel, there will be no holding her back. Plant fibre is such a vital component to a healthy digestive system a healthy mind and ultimately a healthy body.

10.01.2022 Todays lunch box for my 6yr old. My daughter has been asking lately why her lunchbox doesnt contain cupcakes and other yummy foods like the other kids at school do. I smile and let her know she does have yummy food in her lunch box too and remind her that she gets cupcakes occasionally as treats and at birthday parties. I also point out shes got her yummy arrowroot biscuit and vanilla cookies, plus a vanilla rice bubble bar, all things she enjoys, (without the artif...icial colours and flavourings) and even a homemade dragon fruit jelly lolly (care of Granny). I must admit though Im only human and my feelings cant help but take over and I get a stab of guilt, maybe I am doing some sort of harm to my child, maybe shes missing out on something important, maybe she is right, maybe I am mean? It doesnt take long for common sense to kick back in and I reassure myself, that a simple healthy nutritional lunchbox is just one way I show my daughter that I love her and care about her health and wellbeing. Even if she doesnt get it yet.

10.01.2022 Felicity less than 24hrs old! Her birth story... Wed had a lovely day with friends playing down at our creek on a hot summers day just around my due date. I remember at about 6 oclock that evening talking to a girlfriend mentioning that I had a bit of a backache similar to period pain, I didnt think anything of it though. We went to my Husbands parents for dinner that night for a bbq, and we were all sitting around. A friend mentioned that my belly looked funny, and... I looked down to see it was no longer round but instead looked like I was carrying a rectangular brick. Just another strong Braxton hicks, I thought. We got home that night, and I went to the toilet and noticed some blood. Hmm, I began to think maybe something was happening. I put my first daughter to bed, as usual, then went to the toilet for a number 2. It was about 8.30 pm, and I still wasnt sure if this was it or not. At about 9 pm, I let my Husband know that I thought I was going into labour. I asked him to call the midwife and told him I was going to go lie down in our bedroom and prepare for what I thought would be a long night of labour. At about 9.40 pm, I had a significant contraction and felt my waters pop. I went and got a waterproof bed pad that we use for night-time toilet training for our daughter and went back to laying down. During one contraction, I experienced a strange sensation of the babys head moving down into the birth canal. At the time, I wasnt aware of what this meant in terms of what stage of labour I was in, as my first birth experience was completely different. I was starting to get quite uncomfortable and asked for my Husband to come in and rub my back through the contractions. I was not aware of time; I was in a zone of simply breathing through each contraction. I still wasnt as uncomfortable as my first labour even in its early stages and figured I had hours ahead of me. Little did I know! Wait for tomorrow as this is where the story gets comical.

10.01.2022 Do you know the 5 types of PMS? Each relates to a different hormone imbalance... . PMS-A (Anxiety) Easily overwhelmed, sensitive to criticism, unpredictable/sudden mood swings, bloating, possible painful menstruation. .... PMS-C (Cravings) Craving sweets and other carbohydrates +/- headache, fatigue, low blood sugar. . PMS-D (Depression) Low mood that borders on depression, which improves when bleeding begins. . PMS-H (Hydration) Breast tenderness, bloating and water retention in the ankles, legs, face, hands. . PMS-P (Pain) Painful menstrual cramps, which can begin up to a week before bleeding begins. . This is why off-the-shelf PMS treatments don't work for everyone - and why creating individualised PMS herbal blends is a big part of what I do. . 09.01.2022 Thank you to everybody who could make it to the PANDA (perinatal anxiety and depression) Awareness Pamper Party on Monday! I have a couple of unclaimed items from the morning (as per the photo). Please message me if any of these items are yours, so we can organise getting them back to you. The feedback I got from the morning was that it was a big success!! Everyone enjoyed making their own bath salts, making new connections, receiving a head massage and most importantly ...that happiness and laughter were felt by all. Big thank you to the Renae and Sally @ Mareeba Mothers And Midwives Alliance, Tash L Hogan and Kate Hopton for your contribution and help in organising the event.

09.01.2022 Cleone meeting her sister for the first time. The final instalment of Felicitys birth story... After about 10 minutes of active pushing, I realised I wasnt experiencing the same tearing ligament pain, in-between contractions as I had in my first birth! I was getting a 20-30 second reprieve in-between contractions just as I was supposed to! I was soo grateful! I dont even remember being in pain during this birth, yeah sure super uncomfortable, but not searing pain like I... had in the first. I wasnt drained and exhausted either, I was invigorated especially realising my body was doing this, all on its own, without the added pain from a tearing ligament, this was such a powerful euphoric moment for me. When we called the ambulance, it was about 10.30 pm. I was pushing on all fours for about twenty minutes before the head was delivered. We had the midwife and ambulance officer agreeing on their instructions finally, multiple times they reiterated to my Husband, "the baby will be slippery, make sure you dont drop the baby"! The babys head was out, but my shoulders were shaking, crying out that they couldnt take my weight with me on all fours any more. I needed to change my position. I managed to use the towel rail and bathroom vanity to support myself upright. With the help of gravity and a final push, little Felicity Sylvie Jaques was born on our bathroom floor, caught by her capable daddys hands. My Husband told me it was a girl, as he passed her to me through my legs, so I could sit down on the floor, hold my baby and marvel at what had just happened. The ambulance officer on the phone told us the ambulance was lost and had been driving around our farm for the last 5 minutes trying to find our house. My Husband phoned his parents, who also live on the farm about 1km away. "Guess what? You have a new granddaughter!" And, "can you find the lost ambulance and take them to our house please". I delivered the placenta not long after the birth and another 5 minutes later two ambulance officers arrived with me on the floor of my bathroom holding Felicity. We didnt want to cut the cord straight away, but the ambulance officer told us that it was protocol and his job was to at least clamp the cord following the birth. I think he felt a bit cheated and sad that he missed out on all the action getting lost on the farm, so we let him clamp the cord. My Husband cut the cord once we were at the hospital, about an hour later after Felicitys first breastfeed. Hope youve enjoyed!

08.01.2022 This is a key to help you with getting things done, even though you dont particularly feel like doing them. Lets face it, Im not always 100% motivated, I dont always have super strength willpower, and so I sometimes get behind on my chores. This can lead to me then berating myself and becoming overwhelmed with my To-Do List. Next thing I know my confidence is affected, which leads me to berating myself some more, and ultimately Im left with a much less happy me. Whe...n I dont feel like doing something, I can sometimes be under a false illusion that I am being kind to myself by not making myself do it now. Why make myself do something I dont feel like doing, thats just mean isnt it? Wrong! By making myself do it now, I wont have to deal with it in the future, so I am really just being kind to my future self!!! This has been a powerful and hugely helpful shift in mindset for me! I hope it resonates as powerfully with you as it does for me. :-) Please leave a comment as Id love to know.

07.01.2022 My favourite dessert! I make sure to add the secret ingredient of chocolate mint from the garden - takes it to another level of yummy. "A fruit salad is delicious precisely because each fruit maintains its own flavour" -Sean Covey-

07.01.2022 Have you gotten your daily dose of Vit D today? If there is one vitamin your body needs to fight against viral respiratory tract infections - Vit D is it! Studies have shown that adequate Vit D levels are paramount in combatting respiratory tract infections and having a robust immune system. My theory as to why some countries are being hit harder by COVID than others is because these colder countries are just coming out of winter and have a population with low levels of ...Vit D. Did you know that if you have fair skin, you require 5 min a day in the summer midday sun, to 15% of your body, in order for your body to make adequate levels of Vit D. As we get closer to winter, that changes to 16 min in the midday sun to make adequate levels of Vit D. Too much sun exposure is not good, too little is just as bad, but there is a goldilocks - just right.

06.01.2022 Herb of the day is... Cashew (Anacardium occidentale). Is it a nut, a seed or a legume? The jury is out on that one, its certainly unique and perhaps a bit of all 3. Cashews like most other nuts know how to pack a punch in the nutritional department. Its a must in any vegan diet with its ability to create a vegan cream and a delicious dairy substitute in sweet and savoury meals. ... I love to rotate using cashews with other nuts in my energy ball recipes to give a good spectrum of different micro and macronutrients. Cashews are a balanced meal all rolled into one. They are a source of protein, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates along with magnesium, zinc and copper and B vitamins particularly folate. Delicious on their own, added to salads, as a condiment with curries, or as a base for many sweet biscuits and slices.

06.01.2022 Found out this week I have ancestral ties to Mareeba! My great great grandfather, a veteran of the Boer War is buried somewhere in the Mareeba Pioneer Cemetery. He came to Australia after the war in 1901 where he settled with his wife in Wolfram camp (now Dimbulah) mining wolfram. When mining finished the settlement closed and they moved to Mareeba. Cleone had great fun visiting the Cemetery, as we played a game trying to find where he was buried. We found his name on the i...ndex list in the pergola, which had a number that we had to find. At one point there were skeleton zombies chasing us, as we were trying to figure out the "clues" as to where he might be. It was ok though, because her great great great grandfathers spirit was making sure the zombies wouldnt get us. #inspiredhealthcentlre #spookystories #ancestralties #mareebapioneer #mareebanaturopath #boerwarveteran #graveyardfun #inspiredhealthyhabits

05.01.2022 I've recently started with my almost miss 7, a kindness sticker chart as a way to foster kindness in our household. Cleone was busy sulking about something and feeling like the world was against her when I told her about my idea for the sticker chart. Her eyes lit up with joy at the idea and I watched as she became a different girl in a matter of seconds. She was suddenly energised and motivated, and listened intently as I told her about how important being kind was and... how when we help make other people feel happy, we feel happy. Now I've tried sticker charts in the past, but I always found it difficult to follow through with awarding stickers for every task/responsibility completed. Putting a sticker on a chart, after she brushed her teeth, just felt like another chore for me (even though it was helpful in fostering healthy habits for Cleone). This time is different. I explained the rule that she couldn't tell us about her kindness act, either myself or her Dad had to 'catch' her being kind in order to receive a sticker. When we feel proud of her, we are much more likely to follow through with putting the sticker on the chart. I just give little gentle reminders every now and then. She also has the choice to save up her stickers to receive a small, medium, or big award. Having the list of rewards and list of kindness acts on the chart (some of which can be fun for Cleone), really helps with motivation on everybody's part also. Hope this is helpful in sparking an idea for you!

05.01.2022 Todays herb of the day I bring you the lovely sunflower (Helianthus annus). These flowers have been a recent addition to our farm, making a beautiful splash of yellow as you drive in. In order to harvest the seeds from the flower you need to wait for it to turn from yellow to brown, at which point the centre of the flower will have developed seeds. You then pick the flower and hang it up to allow it to completely dry. As you can see from the photo, bees also love collecting... the sweet nectar. In order to eat the seeds, they need to be hulled first. Another great option is to eat the sprouted sunflower greens which makes for a super nutritious delight. After soaking and planting the seeds in a little soil, they will be ready for cutting and eating within 6-10 days. You can add to salads, smoothies, and even enjoy as a snack straight from cutting. Dont leave the sprouts for too long though or else theyll become bitter and not so enjoyable to eat. Sunflower seeds are high in calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and Vit D, great for supporting strong bones and teeth. Seeds are a great source of good fats, protein and fibre, making it a balanced snack (or addition to any meal) helping to balance your hormones and improve energy levels. #inspiredhealthcentre #inspiredhealthyhabits #herbalifenutrition #herboftheday #mareebanaturopath #nutritionist #herbalist #sunflowerpower #seedsforhormonalhealth

05.01.2022 Herb of the day is Turmeric (Curcuma longa). No doubt youve heard of this fantastic rhizome herb. I took this photo at the end of flowering, with one white flower left, I cant wait for the harvest. You can use this herb as a flavouring spice, medicine or as yellow/orange colouring. Would anybody like some yellow cup-cakes?... It is a potent anti-inflammatory for the body, including the digestive system. I make sure to use this spice, in those comfort type meals that are high in fat and carbohydrates as it helps the liver produce bile to aid in the emulsifying and digestion of fats as well as stimulating the pancreas to produce digestive enzymes. My other fav way to enjoy turmeric is in its powdered form which you can buy from the health food section of the supermarkets and create your own DIY turmeric chai latte. 1 tsp of turmeric powder to a sprinkle of black pepper, top with heated soy/oat/rice/almond milk and a dash of honey. Perfect afternoon cuppa. It is a beautiful tonic for the digestive system and liver, helping to balance and regulate hormones.

04.01.2022 Ive been receiving wonderful feedback from everyone on how much youve enjoyed my birth stories. Ive only had 2 babies, so thats it for birth stories Im afraid, but I could share my matrescence journey with you all! Dont you just love that word - *matrescence* - it describes the transition into motherhood and the accompanying body, mind and hormonal shifts that take place. I wish I knew that word 6 and a half years ago when I first experienced it, and that it was ...actually a thing, as I might have been just a tad bit easier on myself. Sure I knew Id be learning along the way, but I also figured I would just catch on and get with the program pretty quickly and that it would all be smooth sailing once I had the breastfeeding thing down pat. It is a great passion of mine, along with fertility and gut health (often the root cause of many chronic conditions) to support women in matrescence. It is such a major life transition, one that you can never truly be prepared for. Whilst pregnant for the first time Id often have parents on the other side tell me of their stories, and Id listen eagerly and sometimes in sympathy thinking I had it all figured out and would surely be different for me. Looking back I think parenthood is 10 x harder than I thought it would be, but also 10 x more rewarding. Welcome to parenthood - where the GPS mostly reads... recalculating. Stay tuned as I look forward to sharing my matrescence journey and little insights I have learnt along the way. Hope you enjoy.

03.01.2022 I love books! They really do make me happy. I especially love when Im in a library and I am surrounded by all the possibilities of endless stories and facts and ways of thinking and doing, it just holds such awe-inspiring energy for me that I love. I dont even necessarily have to read them, for them to bring me happiness, though I give it my best shot. Ive recently been going to the library more often and with my little miss 2 year old, who might just have the sa...me love for books. Ive noticed that the picture books made for her age, arent her fav but rather the kids novels. I think she loves all the pretty pictures on the covers, especially when theyre part of a set. She likes to pull them off the shelf about 20 of them, stack them and sort through them, flip through the pages, and even imaginarily reads aloud to her self. Its sooo cute!!! She wants to hire them all as well, I have to bargain with her to only get 5 or 6, which isnt an easy task. My fav types of books atm are cookbooks, self-help, romance and suspense novels. Please share in the comments as Id love to know what your fav types of books are to read? #inspiredhealthyhabits #inspiredhealthcentre #mareebanaturopath #bookslover #booksarelife #bookaddict #paleocookbooks #selfhelpbooks #womenshealth #easyketo #petevans #wholesomechild

01.01.2022 Gluten-free and dairy-free comfort food does exist! I love this potato bake because it is a hit with gluten and dairy eaters when I take to BBQs! Last night I served this with roasted turkey drumsticks and 4 steamed veg, silverbeet, kholarbi, broccoli and carrot. The potato bake was the star of the meal! Be sure to wash the potatoes thoroughly and leave the skin on for added nutrients. ... I got the recipe @perchancetocook which is Whole30, paleo, gluten and dairy-free and you could easily use vegetable broth instead of bone broth to make vegan also. Enjoy

01.01.2022 The gut is where the external environment meets your internal ecosystem and is the gateway to all of the systems in your body. What may come as a surprise is that a struggling digestive system can impact your overall health regardless of whether you are suffering from digestive discomforts. The gut is a complex system and one that you are constantly interacting with. If you are feeling out of balance, or you have niggling signs and symptoms seemingly unrelated to the gut..., you may need to think again. Tell-tale but not-so-obvious signs can include:- Sugar cravings Unintentional weight loss or gain Sleep disturbances or constant fatigue Skin rashes and irritations like eczema Autoimmune conditions Frequent infections and illness Food allergies and sensitivities Anxiety and Depression Mood swings and irritability Poor memory and concentration. Unexplained aches and pains Sore joints The good news is that addressing gut health, doesnt need to mean going on a restrictive diet for long periods of time. Restoring and maintaining gut health is possible, improves your quality of life and best of all helps prevent pesky problems appearing in the future.

01.01.2022 This was delicious! I've never cooked with figs before and I was excited to try when I was given these figs as a present. I always have a kind of apprehension when cooking with a new fruit or vegetable - because I don't know if I'm going to like it, I don't let that stop me though. ... Chicken drumsticks, bacon, onion, silverbeet, chicken stock and figs, was yummy! Figs are rich in nutrients and low in calories, making it the perfect addition to a healthy diet. They're are also high in fibre, and added a delicate sweetness to this meal that made it a hit with the whole family! Have you tried cooking with a new fruit/vegetable recently? Let me know in the comments.
