25.01.2022 Ballarat recently recorded its coldest day in more than half a century bringing snowfalls to the town. One of our endorsed enrolled nurses, Tanya, sent in some photos of the rare event! Like our colleagues in Launceston who had similar unusual snowfalls in August, Tanya was out and about looking after our clients regardless of the weather.

24.01.2022 Clients at the Muswellbrook Activity Centre have seen their creativity begin to blossom right in time for the start of Spring! Since making a return to the centre recently, everyone has been adding their own 'pop of colour' to the Growing Tree! With clients unable to see each other together at the one time, everyone loves seeing what's been added during their visit each week. Representing the amazing growth our clients have experienced this year during unexpected circumstances, we are excited to see how it grows!

23.01.2022 A member of our Launceston Wellness Centre, Frances, is now famous as the self-described ‘geriatric gym junkie’ lady from the news. After moving from Queensland to Tasmania, she was looking for an outlet to meet some new people and work on her health and fitness. I kept seeing advertising of the Wellness Centre and rang up, and here I am. She attended twice a week before COVID-19 and was extremely happy to hear the centre was reopening.

21.01.2022 Today on Remembrance Day, we honour and remember over 300,000 brave Australians who fought overseas during the First World War. We especially pay tribute to the 60,000 who lost their lives and never returned home. At 11am today, we observe a minute’s silence in their memory and in recognition of those who serve our country so proudly today. Lest we forget.

19.01.2022 Are you a client of integratedliving? If so, we would love your feedback! Each year, we host a client survey so we can hear directly from our valued clients about the services you receive. While we include consistent questions for year-on-year comparisons, we’ve also included a few new and specific questions about our response to emergencies such as the bushfires and COVID-19. The survey is now open and clients can complete it online or via post before 27 November each survey counts and we truly value your feedback.

17.01.2022 Despite being 88 years young, John is still a joyful participant at the Muswellbrook Wellness Centre. The team at the centre discovered his love of music when one day they found him tightening and restringing the many drums at the centre. He then began playing for staff and clients showcasing his many talents! Growing up in Holland, music was a huge part of John’s family’s life - all the children began to learn instruments from a young age. He began playing the drums at 18 years old and before long even joined a 20-strong band! He emigrated to Australia with his wife and daughter in 1962. Music remains a huge part of John’s life. The music at our Activity Centre creates a sense of fun in a social setting.

15.01.2022 Meet Support Worker Tegan, who’s been a carer for over five years and wouldn’t change it for the world. Tegan loves to read, bake and keep fit. Mum to two beautiful kids, Tegan can often be found playing dress-ups and superheroes or beating them at UNO. Fun facts: Tegan enjoyed aerial silks for four years so is a skilled acrobat! She’s also terrified of emus! When the borders reopen, you’ll find Tegan in the Maldives sipping cocktails (that’s the dream anyway)! #behindthemask

09.01.2022 Hailing from Launceston, 80-year-old Lesley was raring to get back to the Wellness Centre since joining over a year ago. She credits the dramatic turnaround in her health to regular exercise with the help of integratedliving. I first attended the centre with a walking stick to help me get around and was on strong pain killers waiting for knee surgery. Exercise has helped to take away the pain, I no longer use my walking stick, and I’ve weaned myself off the medication as well, she said. Lesley is pictured below with one of our Exercise Physiologists Matthew.

08.01.2022 There is an estimated 459,000 Australians living with dementia, with many of us experiencing the impact of this illness either personally or with the diagnosis of a loved one. Our Drama Therapy program has been known to contribute to improvements of those with dementia, and has been the catalyst for a new online friendship as a result of our Activity Centre moving to a new virtual model. Ron and Rob attend different Activity Centres and have been helping our Drama Therapist, Dannielle, put together a short film titled 'Shipwrecked'. With this year’s theme being 'a little support going a long way', both clients have appreciated the ability to connect. Dementia Services Manager Kerry said, "it's inspiring to see them engaging and connecting in that way. My heart is warmed so much.

He says, It’s great to be back to be honest, I missed it like all hell. I could say I missed the exercise the most, but I’d be telling fibs. It’s the companionship that I’ve missed the girls in there are great and I love having a chat about the football they’re all real characters.

07.01.2022 Staff member Vicky worked with some of our wonderful Activity Centre clients via our virtual program to create some fabulous sensory boards. These will be used in each of our Activity Centres for sensory therapies for clients living with dementia. As you can see, our wonderful clients had a great time getting creative together online. According to Alzheimer’s WA, stimulation through the sensory boards can improve the wellbeing of people living with dementia, especially when t...hey include items that are familiar or have links to the past. The sensory boards can be calming, prompt special memories or a sense of usefulness, or evoke feelings of joy, as well as improving mood and self-esteem. integratedliving supports Dementia Action Week and knows that a little support makes a lot of difference. Thanks to Vicky and our clients for the sensory boards, which will be enjoyed by our clients living with dementia.
