25.01.2022 I’ve been quiet on fb for a while but this is something worth pondering: What is residential aged care? Is it a "home" or is it a "health facility"?... Some interesting things to consider: Residential Aged Care is expected to: * provide a homelike environment * provide a huge range of choice not found anywhere else in the health system * cater for all cultural, religious and personal preferences * provide best practice clinical care across the full spectrum of chronic and sub-acute care including rehabilitation Yet: * The sector is not funded in line with public healthcare. * The sector is not staffed in line with public healthcare. * The sector has progressively been denuded of specialist clinical expertise which has serious implications for clinical assessment and care delivery. * And as a result, the sector has accepted that less clinically rigorous practices such as the administration of medications or wound care by largely under-skilled staff is acceptable because the appropriate alternatives are not affordable.

16.01.2022 #BestOf2018 Those who choose to work in aged care deserve our praise and respect, but unfortunately this is not what a lot of aged care workers are experiencing, and it’s beginning to take its toll.

11.01.2022 Christmas is a time for giving to others. This Christmas more than 40% of people living in aged care facilities will not be visited by anyone. If you have a relative living in aged care, give them a visit, take them some Christmas cheer, show them that someone cares enough to spend time with them. Share your love
