24.01.2022 REVISION GAME! With the cheap knock off version of Ludo from Kmart and some sticky dots from Woolies, we’ve got our very own revision game for the White Rabbit’s solo As you ‘hop’ around the board (very appropriate for White Rabbit) and land on a space, your sticky dot has an analysis instruction that relates to the section of the board you’re in. For example, if you land on ‘Space’ in Section B1, you can state how angular shapes are used to exemplify the White Rabbit’s anx...ious and chaotic disposition; curved shapes would suggest that the White Rabbit is relaxed (which he is definitely not!). You can tailor your board to suit any of the prescribed works and Key Knowledge/Skills dot points. If your work has more than four sections, you could reverse the set up and coordinate the 4 sections of the board to represent Elements of Movement, Movement Categories, Choreographic Devices and Production Elements, while the dots represent each section. Part of the revision could be to write up cheat-sheets so you can play along with people who don’t study VCE Dance or are studying a different prescribed work. See more

20.01.2022 For their Unit 1 Learnt Work, INTENTION DANCE students learned the choreography to Big Dance and performed it at the Arts Learning Festival with Ausdance Victoria. Watch the video below to hear some of our students talking about their experiences and describing what art and dance means to them
19.01.2022 Structured Improvisation to the themes of "MAKE YOURSELF" by Incubus. Some perfect parallels between this song and the choreographic influences on the prescribed dance work we're analysing for Units 1 & 3 (Take me to Church). The students did a great job at communicating the message of the song using Movement Categories and creating motifs with Gesture! Great practice for choreographing their solo work later in the year too "If I hadn't made me I would have been made someh...ow If I hadn't assembled myself I'd have fallen apart by now If I hadn't made me I'd be more inclined to bow Powers that would be have swallowed me up But that's more than I can allow If you let them make you They'll make you papier-mâché At a distance you're strong Until the wind comes Then you crumble and blow away You should make amends with you If only for better health But if you really want to live Why not try and make yourself?"
18.01.2022 Congratulations to our students for completing their VCE Dance exams!! Could not be prouder of everything they’ve achieved this year!!!
16.01.2022 Reinterpreting the motifs of Plain Jane during the workshop with The Australian Ballet today. How creative and amazing are these INTENTION DANCE students?!!! They created these phrases in under ten minutes. What a great day!
16.01.2022 INTENTION DANCE kicked off it's first official class with the bad boy of ballet, Sergei Polunin. So excited to delve into this story more with the Unit 1 crew next year...the more you learn about it, the more you love it. In total honesty, I hated this dance the first time I saw it...the inconsistency between the raw expression of emotion and the deadpan (albeit extraordinary) ballet technique had me questioning the authenticity of the work; but the more I understood at the expressive intention, the more I fell in love with how it was communicated through this contrast...juxtaposition, not inconsistency...genius!
15.01.2022 Ready to rock Top Class at the Melbourne Recital Centre today. What excursion is complete without a Macca’s run though
14.01.2022 Bringing Incy Wincy Spider to life to explore the concept of THEME AND VARIATION. We looked at the form of this nursery rhyme and created phrases to represent each of the sections. The students decided on a motif to represent poor Incy and his struggles and used it to link the phrases together, finishing off with a variation of Section A as Incy tried to conquer that damn water spout!
12.01.2022 What a FriYAY!!! INTENTION DANCE students spent the day with the education team from The Australian Ballet and were lucky enough to catch a performance of their work Plain Jane as choreographed by Lucas Jervies. Plain Jane tells the story of a young girl resisting the expectations of society. The twenty minute duet addresses themes of personal identity and peer pressure and it’s a delight to join Jane on a journey of transformation as she decides that she doesn’t need to be Cinderella to be awesome. https://australianballet.com.au//education-program-plain-j

The workshop is appropriate for students and teachers who wish to deepen their understandings of this solo. While exploring the Key Knowledge and Skills related to this Area of Study, participants will creat...e learning resources and revision tools to support their understanding of this work. Day 1 begins with a viewing of the documentary ‘Dancer’ followed by a discussion of the influences on the Dance Design (form, intention and movement vocabulary), This day will focus heavily on the Movement Categories used throughout the work and explore the motifs created through the use of Choreographic Devices. Day 2 will target how the Elements of Movement are used to communicate the intention of the dance-work and will conclude with an exploration of the Production Elements chosen to support this piece. Every participant will take home a goody-bag of revision resources to help them prepare for assessment of the outcomes related to this work.Workshops are held at the Bunjil Performing Arts Centre on the campus of Wheelers Hill Secondary College." 01.01.2022 INTENION DANCE students completed a structured improvisation today. They chose an excellent expressive intention, PROGRESSION, to kin-aesthetically explore overcoming challenges in life. They followed a set of movement instructions to guide their improvisation as a group and incorporated chance procedures to determine particular sequences. They did an awesome job at exploring and developing their personal movement vocabulary. PROUD TEACHER!
