25.01.2022 We wanted to let our current clients know that as of tomorrow all of our Speech Pathologists will be wearing masks or facial shields (for those children who are working on their articulation or who need to see more social information on our faces) in therapy sessions. We ask that parents who attend sessions also wear masks. Children under 12 years of age will not be asked to wear a mask. We will continue to use and provide hand sanitizer, to call you when we are ready for you... to enter the clinic, will take your temperature upon entry, will sanitise surfaces between sessions and will keep physical distance. Whilst we are currently continuing face to face sessions, we do urge those families who are able to attend sessions using the Telehealth model to strongly consider this. The health of the families we work with and the Interact staff is paramount at the current time. We thank the families who have contacted the clinic to let us know when a family member is unwell. We want you to know that we are making all clinical management decisions upon advice from the DHHS and Speech Pathology Australia. Please take care See more

12.01.2022 Here is one of Amys clients using AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) to communicate. This client has a diagnosis of Quadriplegia Dystonia (Cerebral Palsy) and currently uses Grid 3 on his iPad with a key guard. He has been working on extending his sentence length and complexity as well as his spelling skills so he is able to use predictive text for more efficient communication. Amy is proud of how far he has come over the last couple of years! https://drive.google.com//1JLoHr9Xo7iBrkJHx3Le4GqQ0ec/view

11.01.2022 This is a really important message. Big feelings for our children as they process this really tough year. As adults, were having good/ bad days- lets not forget to acknowledge our children having to process this craziness with less vocabulary to express themselves and a significant loss of meaningful play/ social experiences with their peers x

11.01.2022 I’m not sure if working = a day to myself but not multitasking the remote learning/ parenting/ household bores (and the working) made all of last week feel very, very strange. Anyone else notice they missed the incidental chats of having their children at home? Here’s to a calmer week as we all adjust to the newest of the new normals!

11.01.2022 An amazing initiative from Bethany to support you if you need someone to talk to.

02.01.2022 Speech Pathology Australia supports Developmental Language Disorder Awareness Day on Friday 16 October because more light needs to be shed on a hidden condition... that affects on average two children in every classroom. DLD is a condition that causes difficulties with speech, language understanding, communication, and reading (with an associated high risk of dyslexia). Developmental Language Disorder is now the accepted term for language difficulties where the language disorder has no other differentiating or influencing condition (e.g. the absence of Autism, Down Syndrome, Fragile X, etc.). The term DLD describes children who are likely to have a language problem that endures into middle childhood and beyond; without diagnosis and specialist support this condition has a significant impact on their everyday social interactions and schooling. If you are concerned a child you know has DLD, contact a speech pathologist. Find a speech pathologist via the Speech Pathology Australia website.> https://bit.ly/3k4PNjx

01.01.2022 Today we are following the advice of Speech Pathology Australia and following the fast changing PPE guidelines of DHHS. Our Speech Pathologists are wearing face masks and eye protection in the form of face shields within their speech therapy sessions. From Thursday onwards we are moving back to Telehealth so that we keep our clients safe and our staff safe. This will also mean that the children we work with get loads more social information from our faces!!! (Even though we think Ange is totally rocking this look!).
