24.01.2022 Morning Everyone, Today is R U OK? Day, a national initiative and an important reminder for our people to regularly reach out to someone and ask R U OK? At ICA we encourage all members of our Community to reach out to a family member, friend or colleague and check in on their wellbeing. Todays event will work to assist and provide us with some tools on how to ask, listen, encourage action and check in on someone. ... I would encourage you to check out the R U OK website, to find out more about how you can support your colleagues, friends and family by asking R U OK? in a meaningful way. Today is a reminder of the culture of wellbeing we are committed to creating here at ICA so lets collectively take some time to check in on each other and start a conversation not just today but all year long. Who will you ask?

At this stage we are continuing to proceed with finalising our Summer Camp 2020 program and will continue to review the advice provided by the CFA and relevant Government Agencies. We will make a final decision no later than Friday 3 January. The safety of our young people and our leaders is paramount so we appreciate your patience. Please contact me (0407 572 677) if you wish to discuss this further.

18.01.2022 On behalf on the InterConnection Australia community, I would like to wish each of you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy start to 2019!

17.01.2022 Hi everyone! I hope youve all had a happy day If not, dont worry! Its never to late to make a positive change. Research has shown that when we perform random acts of kindness (a good deed without the intention of being rewarded,) we actually boost our own positive mental health! And when we do these good deeds we are also showing kindness to others- how awesome is that!? Here is some inspiration for you, please let us know how you go!

16.01.2022 Team ICA, photos from WC2017 are now posted on our InterConnection Australia Group Page. Please send us a message if you came on Winter Camp and are not yet a member!

16.01.2022 InterConnection Australia is built on a belief that every young person is different, important and worthy of love. It is not right that any individual should be subject to bullying, belittlement or invalidation. We believe in a world in which every young person can thrive, irrelevant of sexuality or gender identity. Thats why we are partaking in a global movement. Wear it Purple was founded in 2010 in response to global stories of real teenagers and real heartache. MANY LGB...TQI young people struggle each day following bullying and harassment from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity from people who think this is okay. Wear it Purple was established to show young people that there was hope, that there were people who did support and accept them and that they have the right to be proud of who they are. Be part of the phenomena!! Wear purple on August 25th, show that you care, show that you love, show that you support and show that we are all in this together! 15.01.2022 We have been closely following the bush fire situation in the Gippsland region and have been in regular contact with the Camp Mallana property manager who has kindly provided updates in conjunction with the information available through the Victorian Emergency app and website. Based on the information available to us, we have taken the unfortunate decision to cancel Summer Camp 2020 which was scheduled to commence next week (7-10 January 2020). Whilst the immediate fire thre...at is relatively low, the air quality in the area is very poor and the adverse impact our camp program will have on a region whose resources (fuel, groceries, mobile phone coverage etc.) are already stretched are all factors which contributed to our decision. In 17 years this is the first time InterConnection Australia has had to cancel a camp program, but the safety of our young people who attend our camps and our volunteer leadership team is paramount and cannot be compromised. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by our decision and look forward to seeing you at our next camp program. Please contact us at [email protected] for further information. Thanks & best wishes for 2020! Jason Matchado Chief Executive Officer

15.01.2022 Today is Wear It Purple and the team at InterConnection Australia ask that you join in to support the rainbow youth of today! As an organisation, we believe people are happiest when they can be their true self whether it be at school, in their work place and sporting club each and every day. Wear it Purple is an organisation founded in 2010 in response to global stories of several LGBTI young people taking their own lives following bullying and harassment resulting from the lack of acceptance of their sexuality or gender identity. This years theme is StandUp.StandOut. and is about recognising the importance of having visible and proud rainbow peers. We encourage you to learn more about this great initiative & head to wearitpurple.org where you can read about some of the challenges young LGBTI people face.

14.01.2022 R U OK?Day is a national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone to ask, Are you OK? and to remember every day of the year to support people who may be struggling with lifes ups and downs. This year in the build-up to R U OK?Day were encouraging everyone to Trust the Signs, Trust your Gut & Ask R U OK? We want everyone to feel confident they know the signs someone might need support by listening to what theyre saying, seeing what theyre doing or knowing whats going on in their life. Whenever you notice a change, no matter how small, we want you to trust your gut and start an R U OK? conversation.

13.01.2022 Team ICA, Today, the Australian Bureau of Statistics will be announcing the outcome of the Marriage Equality postal survey. For many, Im sure there will be relief as we come to the end of what has been a challenging time. ... I am exceptionally proud that we have maintained an inclusive and respectful tone throughout this period even in the face of a somewhat more divisive tone in media and social media. I hope you have all had your say. The last update from the ABS estimated that 77% of postal forms had been returned. This is an incredible result for a voluntary vote outdoing votes on BREXIT and the recent US election. The result of the survey will be announced on November 15 at a 10:00am (AEDT) Canberra news conference which we expect will be broadcast by all TV channels at the same time. I can understand that not everyone will welcome whatever outcome the Australian people have decided. But our core value of respect will remain paramount as we move forward together after the result is announced. Enjoy the rest of your week, Jase

11.01.2022 Inclusion and Acceptance are two crucial and vitally cultural pillars of InterConnection Australia, so we would like to take this opportunity to express our support for National Reconciliation Week which runs from 27 May to 3 June 2018. National Reconciliation Week commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. This week, we encourage each of you to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

07.01.2022 R U OK? Day is an important day in the Australian community calendar. By giving someone your time, and the opportunity to share what theyre feeling, youre giving and showing that person something invaluable; that you care about how they are feeling and genuinely want to make a connection. This years R U OK? Day theme is Theres more to say after R U OK?. We know 2020 has been incredibly difficult. As an organisation, we want to increase our discussions around mental and ...physical health and share ideas that champion our wellbeing. One area we know we need to focus on is our level of confidence and capability to check in on each other in a meaningful way. So there has never been a more important time for us to take the time to learn and connect with the R U OK? conversation message. I encourage everyone to connect with a few of your friends and family today and arrange a time to catch up virtually! www.ruok.org.au

At ICA we extend our deepest love, care, support and acknowledgement of all LGBTQI+ people. "For all rainbow youth, we want you to know you have the right to be proud of who you are today and every day, and those wearing purple support you. You are powerful, you ar...e welcome, and you are loved. Happy Wear it Purple Day- you deserve it." Wear it Purple has a simple message which we wholeheartedly agree with....
