23.01.2022 Wrapping up another fab week in the shop. Lovely to meet so many new faces this weekend! Thanks to everyone who visited This weeks conversations in store weighed heavily around plant pests...seems many of you are starting to feel the brunt of the changing of seasons and this erratic weather which can start to affect our indoor plants. As the days become shorter and we have less natural light available for our plants as well as cooler weather, it’s time to start pulling... back on watering as our plants take longer to dry out and they aren’t need as much water to grow as we enter the dormancy period. Be sure to let your plants dry out between drinks to avoid pests such as those annoying soil gnats that love to invade our damp plants. Drying out and only watering when dry (usually every 2-3 weeks depending on pot size) will ensure the gnats don’t survive or come at all. And as per my previous posts make sure you totally drench or soak your plants heavily when you do water....no tipping small cups of water in to your plants! Ok!? Watering in the sink or a bucket soak will keep the root system healthy and will therefore stop other pests such as mealy bug as they will always attack plants with a weakness. This also includes removing broken, torn or brown leaves/stems as they will hunt down plants like this and move on in! So clean up your plants, water correctly and also move your plants closer to bright, natural light if they’re not going so great. Light and water balance is crucial. Less light, less water....and vice versa. We have some amazing organic products in store and online to prevent pests that you can use as a regular treatment and also plant food and soil conditions that can be used all year round that won’t burn the roots or cause mineral build up and harm your plants. Many of them out there do if you use them in the non growing seasons. Ok that’s it from me! Hope this helps! Now....on a different note, if it’s big pots you’re after you are completely spoilt for choice right now as we just received several shipments from multiple suppliers which means we have tonnes of different shapes, colours and textures available to dress up those bigger plants. Smaller pots....well what can I say...same! And more on the way tomorrow! Super cool plant stakes to prop up those wobbly plants. Plant food to keep them healthy as we head towards the cooler months.
