22.01.2022 Good article about Denial of Service attacks, on WordPress in particular, which has been in the news recently following the malicious use of WordPress's pingback feature. While some attacks are very difficult to guard against, there are some basic security steps you can (and always should) take when setting up a WordPress site.

21.01.2022 Please take a moment to check out these items for sale on Gumtree. Proceeds of these sales will benefit Puddle Jumpers Incorporated, a great Adelaide childrens' charity.

19.01.2022 The latest version of Microsoft Office has been released but it now comes in two different forms. Office 2013 is the next version of the traditional PC-based Office suite, whereas Office 365 is the new cloud-enabled version of the Office suite. In both cases, the applications installed on your local PC are essentially the same but the Office 365 apps have more online integration, can be installed on more devices and work differently in terms how they're updated and how you pa...Continue reading

18.01.2022 If you have a WordPress site running on CloudFlare, you should probably change your security salts! They've just announced a data leak.

18.01.2022 Kelly Exeter, editor of Flying Solo, writes: --- Here are the three things I'd focus all my efforts and funds on if I was starting a business today: ... 1. Killer website. Forget spending thousands of dollars on a logo. A simple typographical logo (just like Flying Solos) is all you need at the start. Invest the bulk of your start-up capital on building a stunning website instead. As your website is the first port of call for any potential client today, it MUST impress. Even a simple but stylish one-page website can be hugely effective in this regard and that shouldnt cost thousands. --- Sage advice indeed! :) Get in touch and we can help you get off the ground.

18.01.2022 Fantastic South Australian charity Puddle Jumpers who look after at-risk children are themselves at risk of being kicked out of their home. Please take a moment to sign and share their petition. They do great work in our community.

17.01.2022 Hey everyone, hope you're having a great 2017 so far. The poor Inveress Facebook page was largely left to lie fallow during 2016 and I'm hoping to be somewhat more communicative this year. So I'll be catching the page up on some of the sites and other projects we worked on in the last few months. The first I want to bring your attention to is the Puddle Jumpers Incorporated website, relaunched back in September 2016. Puddle Jumpers is a fantastic organisation that helps disad...vantaged and at-risk kids in South Australia. Their website (www.puddlejumpers.org.au) was seen to be a significant link in their communications chain and the new site aims to serve them better in this regard, making important information available to interested clients and sponsors 24x7 in an easily accessible design. Hopefully this new site will help this great group of people in their ongoing work in 2017. See more

16.01.2022 Just had a few minutes downtime on a couple of our servers - all OK now. Please drop us a line if you experience any further problems.

12.01.2022 Just a heads-up that Plain Reason has now released the eBook version of "Sacred to Secular", a timely and interesting read on the role that organised religion plays in Australian society today. Inveress prepped the eBook version for publishing, so if you spot any errors, let me know. ;) You can purchase it from Amazon for about the price of a cup of coffee! https://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Secular-corrupte//B06VSZKVWN Visit Plain Reason at: www.plainreason.info

12.01.2022 How do you get people to pay attention to technical notices that are boring but important? I like the solution employed by MailChimp in their latest update newsletter: "...please forward this to the person that actively manages your organization's MailChimp account. It's pretty important. Use the 'ramifications' word in your subject line."

11.01.2022 Vulnerability announced in WordPress. Check your installations and make sure you don't have any unneeded author/admin user accounts. And make sure you use strong passwords!

10.01.2022 For those people on our WordPress maintenance plan, I have been gradually updating sites to WordPress 3.6 over the past couple of weeks and will continue to do so for at least a couple more. All major WP version updates involve a site backup, update installation, testing, and fixing or backup restoration if necessary. Not all themes and plugins are compatible with 3.6 yet (though most are by now), so if your site hasn't yet been updated, there's probably a compatibility issue. Rest assured it will be done ASAP!

10.01.2022 Our upstream hosting provider has suffered some kind of outage, so all sites are down at the moment. Waiting to hear back from them.

09.01.2022 I hadn't taken much notice of Windows 8 but was quite surprised to find out it's only claimed a 3.8% market share after seven months. XP and 7 combined are still more than 80%. I guess if it ain't broke, people aren't interested in fixing it!

07.01.2022 A couple of days ago, vulnerabilities in the popular WordPress plugins WooCommerce and WordPress SEO were made public. That same day, all the sites subscribed to our WordPress update management service were updated with the new, secure version of WordPress SEO, and by yesterday evening, our WooCommerce customers had also been updated. This subscription service allows store and site owners to get on with what they really want to be doing without worrying about keeping their site software updated. More details on our website! http://www.inveress.net.au/services/site-maintenance/

07.01.2022 We'll likely need to reboot some systems at some point, to protect against the newly-announced Spectre and Meltdown CPU vulnerabilities. We're still figuring out what's required. Don't forget to keep your Windows, Mac and Android devices updated, and update your browser to the new versions that will come out shortly (Chrome v64 on 23 January; Firefox v57 sometime soon)!

07.01.2022 The McCabe Financial Services (mccabefinancialservices.com.au) site, published in December 2013.

06.01.2022 Great to be working with Rawsome Mumma -- especially seeing as we got to sample their tasty treats! They specialise in vegetarian, vegan, paleo and gluten-free bliss balls made from nuts, fruit and other healthy ingredients. They're having a Valentine's Day gift box special at the moment and are well worth checking out. :)

06.01.2022 The Limitless Imagery (limitlessimagery.com.au) site, published in May 2013.

05.01.2022 There's seems to be a problem at the datacentre hosting one of our servers. If you're experiencing issues, please hold tight.

05.01.2022 Looks like there was a hiccup at a datacentre hosting one of our servers and it went off the air for a few minutes. All OK now!

03.01.2022 Unfortunately this does not always work, though it is often a good thing to try. :)

03.01.2022 The Plain Reason site (www.plainreason.info), redesigned for the launch of their book, "Sacred to Secular", June 2015.

03.01.2022 Just a quick warning that there are some fairly convincing scam emails doing the rounds at the moment, particularly some supposedly sent from Telstra in relation to a failed billing attempt. These have subject lines such as "Telstra Payment Authorization Failure" and contain a link prompting you to log in and provide a whole bunch of details about yourself, such as birthdate, drivers licence number, credit card details, etc. If you're doubtful about the authenticity of an email, ignore any links or phone numbers provided in the email; instead, go and look the company's billing contact number up in the White Pages and call them directly. Tell them about the notice you've received and they will be able to confirm its authenticity.

03.01.2022 The krack vulnerability has just been announced, which affects pretty much every wireless router in the world. Update your router firmware when your manufacturer releases an update. Much of the risk can be mitigated by only entering sensitive information into secure websites.

02.01.2022 Anyone concerned about all the new revelations of the NSA's access to private data in the US? It might seem a bit far removed from us here in Australia but keep in mind there's a good chance that a lot of the services you use every day will be storing a copy of your data on a US server: Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Hotmail, Dropbox, PayPal and many more. Inveress still maintains one server and one backup storage service in the US but we will be shutting these down in the next few weeks; after that, 100% of our clients' sites and email will be stored only on Australian servers (located in Sydney).

01.01.2022 Please take a moment to check out issue 1 of radelaide.me magazine, in which the The Majoran Distillery is featured. Inveress I.T. Services has been a member of the Distillery since it started back in July 2012 and it is truly an awesome place for an IT soloist to be. It has a lot of heart and a lot of talent, a great atmosphere and a fridge with beer in it. This is what it takes to make the future!
