24.01.2022 It’s time to meet another member of our wonderful team working towards designing methods to repurpose small plastics into tools with a positive social impact! Name: Ahmaz Zafriq What are you studying? 4th year Engineering (Electronic and Communication)... Why did you choose to join PlasLink’s team for ENGN4221? I was interested in working on a project outside of my major and so joined PlasLink’s team as it was out of my comfort zone and, more importantly, had the motive to create a positive social impact. What are you most excited about for this project?: I am looking forward to being able to propose as a team simple but easily scalable manufacturing methods to turn plastic lids into reusable plastic. What do you think the biggest challenge you will face in this project will be? I think the biggest challenge is the short span of time that we have been allocated, but I am confident we will overcome this challenge.

23.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone! While this may not be the Easter you had imagined for 2020, remember to continue practicing social distancing to protect yourself, your loved ones and the most vulnerable amongst us. Also, don't forget to recycle your egg wrappers

20.01.2022 At PlasLink ACT, we're big believers that technology can be used not just for increasing comfortability in our lives but can, more importantly, be used to help others, from disadvantaged communities to the environment. This is why we're so passionate about starting a recycling hub at the ANU to reduce the amount of small plastics currently going to landfill. We're inspired by the awesome work such as that of Isinnova, whose engineers determined a way to 3D print valves for re...spiratory. Have a read of these articles to find out more about how they ingeniously supported the fight against COVID-19: 1. https://3dprintingcenter.net//italians-support-the-fight/ 2. https://3dprintingcenter.net//isinnova-is-back-with-anot/ https://3dprintingcenter.net//italians-support-the-fight/ https://3dprintingcenter.net//italians-support-the-fight/

16.01.2022 Did you know that in the ACT no plastics smaller than a credit card are able to be processed in our recycling facilities? This is how much one individual generated in one day - imagine how this adds up! PlasLink ACT fills the gap in small plastics recycling by acting as a processing partner for plastic collection groups and creating innovative products that benefit youth, the elderly and diversely-abled communities.

15.01.2022 We are thrilled to announce that one of our co-founders, Bri Jones, has been offered a Fellow position with Engineering for Change (E4C) for the summer of 2020! The Research E4C Fellowship is a development program focussing on innovating engineering solutions to local and global challenges. This is a wonderful opportunity for Bri to continue her development in the water sector and a very well-earned opportunity. Congratulations, Bri!

13.01.2022 Since the CGI U Conference for the class of 2020 has been postponed to next year due to travel restrictions, each team were asked to submit a video answering the following: Tell us more about your Commitment to Action and why you decided to address that particular problem. If you could ask President Bill Clinton or Chelsea Clinton one question, what would you ask? Given the impact of COVID-19 in communities and on college campuses across the world, we want to hear from you. W...hat has your experience been? What are young people doing around prevention and response? How can global leaders and public health experts support these efforts? Let us know what you think of our submission! Note: This was filmed several weeks before the current COVID-19 health warnings. Our team are all being repsonsible members of the community & self-isolating, we won't be standing this close anytime soon!

12.01.2022 It's a confronting and scary time - it's nice to be reminded how great people can be! What an innovative, uplifting initiative <3 https://www.facebook.com/TheProjectTV/videos/285469505800312/

08.01.2022 One advantage of quarantine is that it has afforded us lots of extra time to research how other organisations are using plastics to create socially-beneficial tools. Check out these Pura Water buckets made by Engineering for Change: https://www.engineeringforchange.org///pura-water-bucket/. These buckets are made of HDPE and LDPE - both materials that plastic lids are made from...

05.01.2022 There is a lot of confronting news available at the moment in this trying time. We have also been reading and hearing about positive, sustainable changes people are making in their own lives as a result of COVID-19, such as starting their own herb garden and making efforts to minimise food waste. What have you been doing in your household? Here is an interesting article to how the environment could be benefitting from these adaptions we have had to make to a new world with COVID-19: https://www.bbc.com//20200326-covid-19-the-impact-of-coron

01.01.2022 In light of the ANU shifting to exclusively remote work and study to slow the spread of COVID-19, PlasLink ACT will be unable to access the machinery required to repurpose our small plastics into filament for the time being. We are, however, able to continue working on various designs for what we can make in the future! What would you like to see our small plastics made into?
