13.01.2022 One of our favourite things about our new house is the outdoor garden room, complete with rustic chandelier and vintage furniture. It adds a touch of magic and feels a bit secret garden like! Beautifully framed by a 30 year old ornamental grapevine, the leaves are now just turning autumn red. I guess the upside to this whole isolation thing is that we have plenty of time (and no excuses) to get into our wild overgrown garden and tidy her up. Not to mention all the boxes still to unpack!

10.01.2022 Our new rescue chicken PEAR who is now very happy wandering around the orchard, despite not laying any eggs.

06.01.2022 A massive weekend of planting with all hands on deck! Such beautiful weather really helped. REALITY CHECK - with all the family snaps on here, good time to point out that our kids are sometimes very willing, sometimes reluctant farm assistants. (as are the adults!) Every now and again, we don’t give them a choice. They have to put in a couple of hours. It forces them to get off technology and contribute. And you know what? They ALWAYS end up really enjoying the quiet meanin...gful time outdoors, working together as a family, the warm sun on their backs and the distinct sense of satisfaction in the body that comes from doing physical work. It’s not easy getting out the door in the morning; we have the usual family arguments - it’s early and cold and someone can’t find their shoes or water bottle or gloves. I haven’t had a coffee and the animals haven’t been fed. All four of us are quite sensitive, so criticism can quickly escalate and bickering ensues. But we push on and keep trying. We lean in. It’s certainly not perfect, but we’re growing and learning together. See more
