25.01.2022 November 1 2020 is...the 306th day of the year. There are therefore 60 days left in 2020, because it is a leap year. This year is bad enough, but it is also extra long. It is the 44th Sunday of 2020, on the 44th week of 2020. Holidays & popular observances held on this day: All Saints' Day. This day is for celebrating random saints that don't have their own day, or for ones that have been forgotten. Today is also Zero Tasking Day. Celebrated every year on the first Sunday of November, this favourite holiday of every lazy person, encourages people to accomplish zero tasks. Seems quite reasonable on a long weekend.

21.01.2022 Look Good Feel Better is a free national community service program, run by the Cancer Patients Foundation, dedicated to teaching cancer patients how to manage the appearance-related side-effects caused by treatment for any type of cancer. Virtual Workshops are live and interactive and two options are available: Skin care and make-up (1 hour): addressing common side-effects of cancer treatment like dryness and sun sensitivity; correcting and concealing redness, sallowness, pig...mentation and dark circles; and techniques for drawing on eyebrows and eyelashes. Wigs and headwear (1 hour): offering advice on wig selection, wig care, scarf styling and alternative headwear options. During the interactive workshops our facilitator demonstrates and answers participant’s questions while they follow along and try the techniques as we go. Patients can choose to register for one or both workshops, and their Virtual Workshops pair perfectly with their Home-Delivered Confidence Kit service. 10.01.2022 Sustain - The Australian Food Network is running a series of seminars online (see end of post for details). This may be of interest to our food producing and distributing folk Sustain is a think and do network, specialising in designing and building sustainable and healthy food systems. We work with governments, councils, and community leaders to help map local food systems, and develop evidence-based and achievable policies and programs. We sow the seeds of change with eve...nts, policy work, practice & thought leadership, capacity building, and collective action. We give people, councils, and organisations the tools they need to help them become empowered food citizens, supporting healthy communities, people and ecosystems. Vermont Farm to Plate Plan-from 2009 to 2020 and beyond SEMINAR 1 DEC 2 In the first of a three-part webinar series, Program Director Jake Claro and Network Manager Sarah Danly will share an overview of the decade-old program: How it has successfully increased employment, business creation and food security through collaborative, whole-of-system actions and networking, aligned to a shared agenda of a better food and farming system for Vermont. SEMINAR 2 DEC 9 Planning for Sustainable Farming and Healthy Food Access- Increasing protection for farmland is a crucial step in bringing about food system resilience and fair food access. This is a particularly pressing issue for the areas surrounding Australia's fast developing cities, but assuring the long-term security of farming areas is a pertinent lesson for the country as a whole. In this webinar, Program Director Jake Claro and Network Manager Sarah Danly will discuss how their work in Vermont attends to the intersection of food access with land use planning and farmland protection. SEMINAR 3 DEC 16 How the Public Purse Can Drive Food Systems Change: The Role of Institutional Procurement - The ways in which large institutions, such as schools and hospitals, purchase food have a sizeable impact on the larger food ecosystem. Leveraging institutional food procurement can be a powerful means of supporting local producers and ensuring consumers access to nutritious food--potentially creating a food system that is more equitable, sustainable, and resilient. In this webinar, Program Director Jake Claro and Network Manager Sarah Danly will discuss their experiences with institutional procurement, highlighting both its benefits and its many logistical complications.
