16.01.2022 Last week we had the pleasure of distributing laptops to four young people in our program as part of the YACWA Youth Digital Inclusion Project. The Department of Communities has given YACWA a grant to distribute refurbished ICT devices to young people in need. The Young people were identified through eligible community organisations who applied on their behalf Investing In Our Youth was successful in this application. Each of the four young people we applied for received... a laptop , laptop case, and a dongle or sim-card with 6 months’ worth of free internet top ups (20GB a month) as a part of the Inclusion Project. One young lady has just secured a full time traineeship and this laptop came at the perfect time to help her begin her studies. The other three young people aged between 16 to 18 will use the laptops to complete schooling/ TAFE and apply for university. The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on many issues that already existed in society. One of these is the digital divide. During the height of the pandemic when schools and facilities closed and the majority of services went online, many of our State’s most vulnerable young people with no access to digital devices found they no longer had access to social and health supports. Young people are required to use technology to book appointments, use services, engage in education, and stay connected with friends and family. For young people experiencing additional challenges, such as homelessness or other crisis, access to reliable digital devices and data will help them to engage or re-engage with services that will support them during the COVID-19 recovery period. #investinginouryouthwa

11.01.2022 Last month the Child and Parent Centre Collie-Valley facilitated the Children’s Day Event at Roache Park. Kasey our wonderful Support Coordinator worked tirelessly for months to organise the event and bring the community together to have fun but also to share the serious message of Children have the right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others. Through Kasey’s knowledge of the community and engagement with families the event brought children's serv...ices, support groups, schools and community groups together to celebrate childhood and honour parents and recognise the contribution of carers, workers and teachers in children's development. Investing In Our Youth received funding from Parenting Connections to help finance the event. Thank you to the following services and agencies that joined the Centre to celebrate Children’s Day: WACHS child health SWAMS-Child and Maternal Health and SWAMS-Community Connector Team: Disability Services NDIS WA Advocacy Playgroup WA Wanslea NDIS Collie Early Education Centre Roche Park Kidz Cottage Public Library Bendigo Bank HIPPY SDERA Scitech Stacy Skoda Face Painter St. Brigid’s Primary School Roche Park put on a special child friendly menu at their café and staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming to everyone involved. SDERA provided lots of free resources and interactive activities to help promote road safety education and we even got a visit from Izzy the Lizard. 11.01.2022 Have you downloaded the Bright Tomorrows app? CoLab Collaborate for Kids (a partnership between the Minderoo Foundation and the Telethon Kids Institute) was formed to give parents, carers and others who care about or for children, some of the tools they need to give all children the best start to life. Underpinned by the latest child development science, CoLab developed the Bright Tomorrows initiative to build community understanding about the amazing potential of a baby’s... developing brain and to provide expert advice and evidence-based tools to support children’s health, development and learning. A baby’s brain is a remarkable little creature forming more than a million neural connections every second when activated. Babies learn through spending time with their parents and other special people in their life. We’ve created Bobbie to show us all the emotions, thoughts and responses that happen in a child’s brain when a baby experiences meaningful moments. These meaningful moments, especially if they occur early in a child’s life and often, build strong brains, providing a strong foundation for their life. Download the Bright Tomorrows app today to receive access to over 1000 meaningful moments and tips to help build young brains. #brighttomorrows #investinginouryouthwa
