22.01.2022 - Year 9 Drama Workshop - Actors from Zeal Theatre recently conducted an exciting skills-based workshop on Physical Theatre with the Year 9 Drama students. This workshop was designed to assist the students in developing their own performances for assessment. It was a dynamic and very worthwhile workshop which the boys really enjoyed and valued.

21.01.2022 - Year 7 Camps - Our Year 7s have been enjoying their camps at Glendalough this week and this is an important part of the belonging that is necessary for an Iona education. It is great to hear that many boys have practiced character strengths while away. Arriving safely back is always the greatest goal for camps, but a close second is their respectful and meaningful engagement with the programs and their relationships with each other and God. We look forward to welcoming Camp 2 back this afternoon.

18.01.2022 Lindum Station Precinct News The Federal Government has made a massive decision as they try to fast track the $125m fix of a dangerous Brisbane intersection. Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta (LNP) announced the $85 million of funding committed to the long-awaited removal of the dangerous Lindum Level Crossing will be redirected to the Brisbane City Council. Mr Vasta said he would work directly with council, who have also committed $40 million for the crossing. State Membe...r for Lytton Joan Pease (ALP) said the state government is committed to improving the safety of the Lindum Station Precinct. We’re investing an additional $40 million for safety upgrades at the station including a new footbridge, lifts and a park ‘n’ ride expansion just as the technical study has recommended, she said. The changes to the station came from the Lindum Station Precinct Study, jointly-funded by the State and Federal Governments.

17.01.2022 - P&F Lads' and Dads' Breakfasts - Thank you to the many families who supported our Lads and Dads Breakfasts this week, which were proudly presented by our Parents and Friends Association. Yesterday morning we welcomed over 300 Ionians to the first of two events. The organisation of a second event was necessary following an overwhelmingly positive response from our community. Such a response demonstrates the value that is placed on community events at Iona, and a genuine ne...ed for Ionians to connect with each other. Thursdays picnic breakfast took place in the beautiful outdoor surrounds of Harron Oval and we cautiously moved this mornings event indoor and under cover due to the weather forecast. Our Lads and Dads enjoyed live music by Year 11 student Oliver Peel, beautiful food catered by Winegum Café at Gumdale, and positive messages of hope, strength and togetherness from our guest speakers - Iona Old Boy Dave Jorna (1996), Founder of Project Hatch, and Mr Bruce Sullivan, Chief Wellbeing Officer at Metro North Hospital and Health Service.

14.01.2022 - End of Term Prayer for Students - Often the prayers we offer are from an adult perspective. Today we offer the following reflection for our students to contemplate as they begin their holidays. We hope that they may find reminders and perhaps some personal challenges to focus upon, from the prayer below, during their time away from the College. We wish each and every one of our students, staff and their families a safe and relaxing break and we look forward to seeing lots of refreshed and enthusiastic faces on Tuesday 6 October for the commencement of Term 4.

13.01.2022 | Provence Centre - Connections | Part lighthouse, part fortress, part sacred place of pilgrimage, La Bonne Mère (the Good Mother), as Notre Dame de la Garde is universally and affectionately referred to, is the symbol of Marseille. The first place of worship built on the top of the hill overlooking the city was built in 1214. In 1830 the Oblates were asked to provide pastoral care for the pilgrims climbing the hill to pray to the Blessed Virgin. Commissioned by St Eugene de... Mazenod, Bishop of Marseille, the foundation stone of the basilica was laid on 11 September, 1853. In 1903 the Oblates shared the same fate of all the other Religious Orders in France as they were expelled from the country. Before they left, they placed a little plaque 'To Our Good Mother' in the Shrine. There is a 10 metre tall statue of the Virgin Mary on the top of the bell tower, which is said to watch over the entire city including the Old Port and out to sea. The engraved stones on the wall in the old Provençal dialect are people’s thanks to Mary for protecting them. Watching over the Old Port, the city's maritime connections are apparent everywhere, from the anchor motifs to the intricate models of boats hanging from the ceiling. How perfect to note the inclusion of Notre Dame de la Garde in our Provence Centre's mosaic design. #ionaprovencecentre See more

13.01.2022 - 25th Anniversary of Priesthood - Today Fr Michael celebrates the anniversary of 25 years of priesthood: 'I give thanks to God for the many blessings I have received during this time. I have been blessed to minister in Indonesia, New Zealand, Perth, Melbourne and here in Lindum. I also give thanks to everyone I have met along that journey and who have challenged, nurtured, loved, supported, guided and inspired me. I value being an Oblate and I value being an Ionian and I am ...so very blessed to belong to these great families. I do sincerely ask you to continue to pray for vocations as there have been no Iona Oblate ordinations since mine in 1995. If it’s God’s will and there is an openness to say yes, then there must be vocations out there for consideration. For Iona to remain an Oblate ministry of presence, there does need to be people choosing to discern their vocation. Please keep those discerning in your prayers.' Fr Michael Twigg OMI The photograph taken in 1989 shows Fr Michael with his parents Adrian and Margaret, and brother Christopher as Fr Michael made his first profession as an Oblate at St Mary's Seminary, Melbourne. God Bless!

12.01.2022 - Did you know? - That after a third place at the Catholic Colleges Music Festival in 1992, the Junior Choir comprising two teams was awarded First Place in the same competition in 1993? The boys sang, Shine Jesus, Shine in two parts and Over the Rainbow. They performed beautifully and were complimented for their technical correctness and musical interpretation. The victory was a great result in a field of twelve other schools and in the context that Iona had not won a first place since 1984!
