21.01.2022 Did you know that Heartworm or Dirofilaria Immitis is carried, and transmitted, by mosquitoes? Heartworm can cause heart failure and can be fatal. It may only take a single bite from a carrier mosquito to infect your pet. The mosquito infects your pet with heartworm larvae that then migrate through your pet’s tissues to the heart, and adjacent blood vessels of the lungs, where they grow into adult worms. In the early stages of heartworm infection, there may be no outward signs of disease. Luckily it is very easy to prevent. Yearly Heartworm Injection is the most effective, easy and affordable heartworm prevention for your pet. Always seek veterinary advice before changing or starting heartworm prevention. A heartworm test may be required before starting any heartworm prevention.

20.01.2022 Few days ago we had a great pleasure in seeing Katie. She is a very special pug in many ways Not long ago Katie had an ear infection that caused damage to the center for balance in her inner ear, so as a consequence Katie developed a permanent head tilt (in her case head is tilted on the right hand side). Not every ear infection will cause this problem but unfortunately this was the case with Katie. Her ears are now free from infection but need to be checked, cleaned with medicated ear cleaner and if any problems noted treated without delay. If ears look dirty, smelly, itchy or painful please do not delay a visit to a vet to avoid serious ongoing issues.

19.01.2022 Hi Jacqui, It was a pleasure being able to help you out. We are also very happy that Charlie is responding so well. All the best !!!

19.01.2022 DOES MY PET HAVE DENTAL DISEASE?? It may be difficult for a pet owner to answer this question, even after having a good look at their pet's mouth. There are four stages of periodontal disease. The one in this photo is stage four, the worst stage. You will need to look for stinky and smelly breath, red swollen gums, yellow or brown teeth, loose teeth, difficulty chewing dry food and bones, loosing weight, just to name a few most obvious signs. Infection from the mouth and teeth will spread throughout the body and cause heart, liver and kidney disease. Remember prevention is better than a cure (and cheaper too) therefore, it's important to bring your pet in for a FREE six monthly dental check to evaluate your pet's oral health. The vets at Ipswich Family Vet Clinic will advise you on the best way to resolve any problems.

16.01.2022 Summer is here and temperatures are heating up !! Here are some helpful tips you can use to ensure your pet is kept cool and safe this summer. Water bowls - Need to be checked on a regular basis. In case of a tip-over, leave two or three water bowls outside. You could pop a few ice cubes in also. ... Exercise - It is important your dog gets a regular walk. Remember, sunrise and sunset are the most ideal time for a walk. Sleeping Spots - Place outside beds or mats in a shady or cool spots. Try dampening your dogs blanket, or you can buy cool mats. Doggy Paddle - You can place a plastic shell or small paddle pool (with shallow water) and can be an extra water bowl !! Pupsicles !! - Frozen treats in a treat dispenser or kong are a great way to cool down your dog and keep them occupied. Slip, Slop and Slap - Dogs and cats with smooth/thin hair and white-coloured ears or noses can be more susceptible to skin cancers. Applying pet sunscreen during the day is a must. Cats will generally find a place to keep themselves cool in the heat. Few things to be mindful of. Heat Stress - Cats can suffer if the get caught outside in the sun or use up energy with playing. Watch for signs of heat stress such as panting or excessive salivation. Water Bowls and Fans - Ensure their water is in the shade or inside. You can leave a fan on indoors or put down some wet towels ands cats will use them if they choose to. Skin Cancer - Keep white cats or cats with light pigmentation indoors during the hottest part of the day (10am - 4pm)

10.01.2022 Useful tips on KEEPING YOUR PETS WARM IN WINTER *In cold winter months adequate shelter and protection from the rain and wind is very important. *Elevated warm sleeping area and away from drafts especially if your pet is elderly. *Ensure you have good protection and safety if using heaters and open flames burners. *Your pets may need more food during the colder months to keep them warm, because animals need more energy to keep their core body temperature regulated when it...’s cold. However, don’t go overboard with the food. *Winter jacket will help them keep warm and maintain their body temperature when it gets colder. This is particularly important for our very young fur babies, older pets and short-coated breeds. Ensure they are comfortable and in line with fashion style of your bellowed four legged friend *Exercising is very important, don't let them turn into a couch potato during the winter months. Outdoor play is best but if it’s raining you could play indoor instead, do some trick training to keep there mind active, use food-dispensing toys to stop from becoming bored or have an indoor doggy play date. *Cats and dogs feel the effects of arthritis more in cold winter weather. If your pet has arthritis keeping warm will help ease the pain. *And remember cuddles with your fur babies make their and your heart warmer See more
