16.01.2022 Today, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott MP, visited the NSW SES State Headquarters. Commissioner Carlene York and Deputy Commissioner Daniel Austin provided the Premier and Minister with a briefing following severe storms, heavy rain and floods along the NSW North Coast. They also viewed the newly developed Mobile Incident Command Centre and the new Cell on Wheels (CoWs). A Mobile Incident Command Centre is a transpo...rtable solution for incident management that can be used on the back of the FMX Volvo or lowered onto the ground, self-powered for up to 48 hours. The Cell on Wheels is a self-contained, self-powered Government Radio Network (GRN) cell carried on a 4x4 Iveco Daily truck that can establish radio communications in a range of scenarios to enhance frontline capability and member safety. NSW SES volunteers responded to more than 2,800 requests for assistance from communities in the region, particularly in Lismore and Tweed Heads.

15.01.2022 When our volunteers aren't responding to Requests for Assistance by the community they are training. On Monday night training NSW SES Lismore and Casino Units did a landsearch scenario at the Lismore Turf Club. The first part of the scenario was to search for a missing person. The missing person was found with a suspected broken leg and had to be stretchered out. ... The second part of the scenario was revealed that there was a second missing person. Both persons were found and recovered. Great job guys!! Scenario's such as this give our members a chance to challenge themselves and use skills in a situation as real as we can possibly make it. It highlights our strengths and weaknesses and where we might need to do some more training. It gives our new members a chance to ask questions and clarify in a safe setting. Scenarios take a lot of planning and organising. We would like to say Thank you and express our appreciation to those members who put in the extra hours for this training scenario. Also a big Thank You to the Lismore Turf Club for allowing us to use their premises for our training. #nswses #nswsesvolunteers #training #landsearchtraining #lismorensw #casinonsw

11.01.2022 Tonight our team responded to a request for assistance (FYI - we call them RFA’s) from a member of our community, where an entire skylight had completely blown ...off a roof. (Did anyone notice that storm earlier? ). Our amazing volunteers climbed on the roof (with lots of safety gear) and tarped the hole left by the vacated skylight. (See second pic). This is why we volunteer. To help our community! Call 132 500 when you need assistance during Storms and Floods (and Tsunami’s!)

11.01.2022 One of the key pieces of advice the NSW SES asks communities to do is monitor the weather conditions. Recent unsettled weather, combined with wet catchments, has meant that any thunderstorm activity could possibly cause dangerous and fast onset flash flooding and river rises. One of the best ways to monitor weather conditions is through the Bureau of Meteorology radar and also their Rainfall and River Conditions maps.... You can track thunderstorms, rainfall and river conditions easily. #Knowyourrisk #GetReady

07.01.2022 SES teams have been deployed into the Goulburn and Crookwell areas with approximately 50 calls for assistance. The Teams have been working during the night and will continue to work tomorrow. Please be patient as some of the jobs are large and complex, but teams will get there.

05.01.2022 The call went out the other day from NSW SES Forster Pacific Palms and Taree City Units for anyone with a spare 2 hours to help fill sandbags.
