25.01.2022 The development of our Prep boys throughout the year comes in leaps and bounds. From the first day of school, learning to write the alphabet to the end of Term 3, where they compiled and wrote letters to staff members with excellent proficiency. Reading levels help track a boy’s progress in literacy and our Prep boys love to read! Thomas McIntyre, Luke Gaddes, Harry Smith, Owen Bruggeman, Azaia Burdis-Cassidy, Logan Kidd and Ayan Farooq are on reading levels between 19 and 22. The improvement shown by the boys over this year has come from hard work and a love of reading. We challenge our boys to be Exceptional Performers every day, by achieving their own individual best. #igs
25.01.2022 The students studying Certificate III in Sport and Recreation have been focusing on the modules Community Sport Programs and Plan and Conduct Sports Programs. The boys have demonstrated their ability to complete these modules by putting together a weekly Touch Football tournament involving students, staff, and Old Boys. From planning the tournament, getting teams involved, sorting fixtures and referees the boys have learnt how to run a sporting event from start to finish. This not only has ticked off the module for these boys but has brought the community together on a Monday afternoon for light-hearted, fun competition. #igs
25.01.2022 Throwback Thursday to the very first day of 2020 when our Prep boys walked through the IGS gates and sat down for their first lesson. Now they can count coin combinations, write letters and understand grammar conventions such as personification, alliteration, synonyms and antonyms. They have all immersed themselves in learning and school life. Our Prep boys will be finishing off their very first school year tomorrow and will become Year 1 students in 2021. Well done boys! #igstbt #igs

24.01.2022 The 157th graduating class of Ipswich Grammar School have rung the bell for the final time signalling the end of their journey as students and the beginning of a lifetime of Old Boy brotherhood. These boys are part of a great legacy, joining thousands who have gone before them and paving the way for thousands that will follow. No matter how far they may travel, they will always have a place here - their place in history. #igs #class157
22.01.2022 Imagine the scene at Ipswich Grammar School on the morning of Wednesday 7 October 1863. Inside the schoolroom, the polished floors shone and the desks were unblemished by spilt ink. The blackboard had never been dusted of chalk and the open roll on the Headmaster’s lectern was unmarked. In the dormitory, the beds had never been slept in. The grounds had not yet echoed with the plunk of leather on wood and the school bell had never been rung. On that same morning, sixteen boy...s sat down at the hand-crafted wooden forms, opened their copybooks and quietly made history. Sophie Church 157-years on in the Ipswich Grammar School journey, history continues to be made. Buildings have been added and developed with the times, providing learning spaces for the 17,694 students who have walked through our doors, each leaving their own footprint in the story of IGS. #igs
22.01.2022 Congratulations to Adam French, Head of Department Mathematics and IGS Old Boy (Class of 2001) for winning the Excellence in Teaching Award. Adam has been an IGS Teacher since 2010 and has inspired and encouraged many of his students that progress should be aimed for, not perfection. Adam was nominated by his colleagues, some of them outside his faculty - He conducts himself with professionalism, integrity and humility. He is always happy to assist colleagues regardless of his teaching area. Adam has also been involved with Rugby, Debating and the Choir. #igs
22.01.2022 The IGS community has come together once again to support each other. The Moon Festival is a Chinese tradition which began when Ancient Chinese emperors worshipped the moon in Autumn to thank it for the harvest. Nowadays, people mainly celebrate the Moon Festival as a time for family reunions. While our International Boarders have not been able to travel home during these holidays to be with their own families they have not missed out on the celebrations with one of our loc...al parents baking traditional Moon Cakes for each of our boys and their homestay families. Our International Marketing Manager, Jess Kwok, delivered them personally, ensuring our boys are well taken care of and still celebrating this important festival in Chinese Culture. The welfare of our boys is our utmost priority, and this doesn’t change during the school holidays. #igsboarding #igs See more

19.01.2022 The Year 6 students have returned from Camp Kokoda this afternoon with smiles on their faces. The boys were challenged with camping, abseiling, canoeing, flying fox, hiking and conquering the low rope course. They developed resilience by overcoming obstacles along the way and leadership skills by preparing their own meals and working in teams. The boys have built life-long mateships and memories formed outside the classroom just before they start their Secondary School journey in 2021 as Year 7 students. #igs

18.01.2022 The ‘FIRST Tech Challenge’ inspires young people to be STEM leaders and innovators getting them to design, build and program their own robots. IGS sent three teams into the 28 team competition with our talented Senior Team making it through to the semi-finals and being selected for the National competition in early December. Congratulations to all the boys involved and good luck to our Senior Team. #igs

13.01.2022 Last week our 2020 Prefects received handwritten letters made by our Prep to Year 6 boys from OSHClub wishing them all the best for their future outside of school. 13.01.2022 Throwback Thursdayto the 1940s when student Max Vincent took this photo of the Great Hall set up as a classroom. The Great Hall is no longer used as a classroom, however, it is still a very significant building within our school. The history and spirit that it holds gives meaning to our boys and especially in the final weeks of their schooling, Seniors will often take a moment of quiet solitude to reflect on their time at IGS. #igs #igstbt
11.01.2022 Our Year 7 students shared a cultural exchange via Skype on their last week of school with students from High School Affiliated to Shandong University, Shandong Province, China. They discussed fun topics such as the Chinese Zodiac and played a guessing game by impersonating the Zodiac animals. The Chinese Zodiac is most famous for naming the years (the year of the Dragon, Dog, Rat etc.). As part of Chinese astrology and folklore, it has influenced people's lives since ancient times. Our boys have learnt the background and characteristics of each animal as well as some fun facts from their Chinese friends. Thanks to technology, experiences like this one enhances the Round Square IDEAL of Internationalism. #igs
11.01.2022 Our Year 6 students became ‘Change Detectives’, investigating several ‘mess scenes’ to find out what they knew about changes that occur to materials in everyday life. 03.01.2022 The International students celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival, an important time in the Chinese calendar for families to get together. As these boys have not been able to travel home for quite some time, they have supported each other, forming a strong brotherhood in our boarding house. During these holidays our homestay families have also played a vital role, providing a home away from home. The Cantonese Yum Cha Buffet lunch provided much joy to the boys, as they celebrated with each other, Headmaster Mr Morrison and Old Boy Jacky Li (Class of 2017). #igs #igsboarding
02.01.2022 The Senior Formal is a long-standing tradition our boys have looked forward to. 2020 will not be marked by the things this cohort has missed out on but rather by how they came together to overcome the challenges of this year. The boys were able to finally don their suits 6 months after the original scheduled date and focused on making lasting memories in their final year. #igs
02.01.2022 Throwback Thursdayto the 2019 Foundation Assembly. Next week we will be celebrating Ipswich Grammar School’s 157th birthday. 02.01.2022 The Round Square IDEAL of Adventure gets our students to push themselves beyond perceived limits and discover they are capable of more than they thought possible. Our Year 8 students recently went on an Adventure bike ride along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, from Brassall to Fernvale and back. This round trip of approximately 45 km, had the boys pushing themselves on their bikes in the great outdoors. Together they motivated each other, making sure each of them finished the ride, cycling individually but still working as a team. Cycling past cows, over cattle grids, through bushland, the boys enjoyed their day out of the classroom. #igs
02.01.2022 Throwback Thursday to the 1999 Junior School photo when there were just over 100 boys from Year 5 to 7. Just six years after this photo was taken Prep to Year 4 was introduced. She was involved in Swimming, Tournament of Minds, Debating and so much more. We wish her all the best in her retirement and thank her for her incredible contributions to IGS over many years #igs
