25.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day, a day that raises awareness about mental illness and helps break the stigma that surrounds seeking help. 21.01.2022 Adopt a Soldier" Project (hosted by Ipswich RSL Sub Branch Inc. There are many returned servicemen who lie in unmarked graves or have no recognition of military service, in our oldest cemetery. Many of these young men who returned from World War I were shell-shocked and broken. Many of them became inmates at the Sandy Gallop Mental Asylum and were forgotten by their families and by their community. The aim of this project by Remembrance Day 2021 is to erect a memorial wall be...Continue reading

20.01.2022 The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after the bloodshed of World War I. Over the past century, this moment has been adopted across the globe as a time to remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts. This Remembrance Day, RSL is asking all Australians to Remember to Remember to commit to pausing for just one minute to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country, ...those who returned home injured or ill, and those who bravely serve our country today. How can you Remember? There are many ways you can honour our veterans on Remembrance Day. Attend a service at your local RSL Sub Branch, spend a quiet moment in remembrance at home, or donate to help a veteran in need.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TToqQjWeRb0

18.01.2022 Just a reminder that Monday 5th October is the Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday and the Sub Branch at Memorial Hall will not be open. Have a fantastic long weekend.

18.01.2022 Plans show some Australians are in danger of forgetting veterans’ sacrifices. Logan City veterans are expressing anger over plans to build a water park alongside a war memorial. The RSL say they haven’t been consulted about the Springwood Park redevelopment, announced by an LNP candidate backing Logan City Council’s plans for the park.... Scott Emerson was aghast, and said the plan shows some Australians are in danger of forgetting veterans’ sacrifices. Surely there’d be a better place for waterslides than this. If there’s any threat to the memorial, the plan has to be canned. It would be totally inappropriate.

18.01.2022 QLD maritime Museum to close After months spent desperately trying to keep it afloat, the Queensland Maritime Museum is expected to close its doors permanently on New Year's Eve, after the coronavirus sunk its revenue. The pandemic severely affected the volunteer base, with about 40 of the 150 volunteers being COVID-19 "vulnerable" citizens who cannot be on-site, and its revenue flow can not meet expenses. The Queensland Maritime Museum's history spans almost 50 years and it ...Continue reading

18.01.2022 Each year across Australia, police and their families, friends and colleagues come together to remember fallen officers who served in their community and sadly,... died in the line of duty. Considering the current COVID-19 environment, commemorations for this year’s National Police Remembrance Day (NPRD) services in Ipswich are unable to be facilitated as they have in previous years. As we are unable to gather, you are invited to hold a candlelight vigil on September 28, the eve of NPRD and upload a photo of yourself holding a candle, using the hashtag #NPRD2020 to remember our fallen officers. Candlelight vigils are an opportunity to pause and reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made by members from the Queensland Police Service, who have lost their lives. Ipswich community members are also invited to lay a wreath at any police station across the Ipswich Police district, however due to the current COVID restrictions in place, social distancing is to be observed. In support of NPRD, community members may also consider attending their local stations and buy a ribbon or make a donation with proceeds going towards charities; Queensland Police Legacy and Community Supporting Police. Queensland Police Legacy was established in 1971 and assists dependent families of deceased Queensland Police officers. Queensland Police Legacy are currently supporting 48 Queensland Police families and meeting the educational expenses of 78 children. With Honour They Served. The Police Ode As the Sun surely Sets: Dawn will see it arise, For service above self, Demand its own prize. You have fought the good fight: Life’s race has been run, And peace your reward, For eternity begun. And we that are left, Shall never forget, Rest in peace friend and colleague, For the sun has now set. We will remember. We will remember them. Hasten the dawn.

Aircraft arrestor systems are lifesaving devices used to preserve... the life of the pilot and aircraft in the event of an emergency. Ready to spring into action at a moment's notice, Air Force’s aircraft arrestor systems and their 3.5-tonne energy absorbers can arrest aircraft that weigh up to 90,000 pounds (that's 40,823 kilograms for those of us on the metric system).

16.01.2022 Can you help source a 9 Sqn RAAF (Vietnam) ball cap for a veteran. Happy to pay! TIA

16.01.2022 Any man who dons a uniform, picks up a weapon and fights to defend this country, is, in my honest opinion, a genuine HERO. I don't give a rip what cheque book ...journalism try's to do in its effort to discredit the actions of any soldier, let them pick up a weapon and face down am enemy, who, don't have a rule book to fight to, they cut off the heads of innocent people with butter knives and put it on you tube FFS. I have NEVER been more ashamed of our Government and our so called leaders than I was yesterday, what a dark day in our history, to see our brave fighting men and women, thrown under the bus, by the very Government that tasked them to do the job. I come from a long line of proud Military service men, and I will discourage my children from entering the service, as Australia no longer has their back, and I would not blame any service personnel who put in their papers after yesterday, we have Verterans killing themselves daily, because they can not get the help they need, meanwhile, J.W.Howard, the man who buddied up with George W Bush to go to war, sits back on over a million dollars a year as a PENSION. IT IS DISGRACEFUL. Australia, you should hang your heads in shame, or stand a post and show a little back bone. To our service personnel, I personally apologise for any hurt that being made scapegoats for our pathetic Government and its total lack of leadership may have caused. You have my eternal gratitude. 14.01.2022 IT'S ON AGAIN!!!FREE POST!!! YOU CAN SUPPORT OUR TROOPS DEPLOYED OVERSEAS by sending care packages.... This year’s Support the Troops Christmas Day mailing window is: Monday 9 November 2020 to Monday 23 November 2020 The postal address is: An Australian Defence Member AFPO 60 Australian Defence Force NSW 2890 (Note: Family and friends are able to send addressed parcels at any time). Every year Defence is overwhelmed by the generosity of Australians, receiving many more packages than the number of troops deployed on operations overseas. For more information about current Defence Force Operations visit the ADF on Operations website. Additional guidance for all postal items: To prevent spoiling, please ensure packages DO NOT include perishable goods, and are robustly packed. Providing gender-neutral items will ensure an equitable distribution of parcels among our deployed personnel. Remember FUN STUFF is always a winner!!! Parcels CANNOT contain tobacco, alcohol, pornography or culturally offensive or inappropriate written material. A customs declaration must be attached to all parcels sent to an Australian Forces Post Office. Packages can be no larger than the Australia Post ‘Medium’ box, which has a weight limit of 1.7kg. Please note: Australia Post have rationalised their packaging and the replacement 'Medium' boxes have a cubic weight limit of 1.4kg. Packages larger than 310 x 225 x 100 mm and/or are in excess of 2kg in cubic weight will incur ADDITIONAL CHARGES. Unfortunately, Defence cannot accept care packages for military working dogs or explosive detection dogs due to strict care requirements for both their diet and training programs. In general, all parcels must be made up and packed to a standard that will: Prevent injury to the person handling the parcel; Prevent the contents escaping, leaking and damaging other postal articles; Prevent damage to equipment and vehicles, particularly aircraft; Protect the contents from loss or damage caused by the stress of handling and carriage; and Protect the contents from loss or damage caused by the extremes of climate. Australia Post provides a very detailed guide that covers suitable packaging for all types of goods. It can be found on the Australia Post website and should be referred to prior to posting items to ensure that they are packaged appropriately. Items that are packaged inappropriately may be returned to the sender, or may need to be destroyed. Prohibited goods Certain items must not be posted in the domestic and or international postal system. This includes items such as dangerous goods, items prohibited by the International Aviation Transport Association and items that are prohibited by individual countries. Australia Post's Dangerous and Prohibited Goods and Packaging Guide is the best reference to use to ensure that you do not send any prohibited items. If in doubt, seek advice from Australia Post staff at your nearest retail outlet. Liquid articles We strongly discourage sending liquid articles. However, if you must send a liquid product, it must be enclosed in a leak-proof container made of metal, plastic or similar material with secure closures. A suitable example of this would be a zip lock bag, placed inside another. The outer package must be strong enough to withstand large volumes of weight. Furthermore, the package must contain sawdust, cotton-wool or another protective material to absorb the liquid should the container break.

13.01.2022 #OTD HMAS Voyager Scuttled On the 22nd of September 1942 the destroyer HMAS Voyager left Darwin carrying the 2/4th Australian Independent Company, which was t...o relieve the 2/2nd Australian Independent Company. The 2/2nd had been waging a guerrilla war against the Japanese in Portuguese Timor since February that year. The ship made passage safely to Betano Bay, on the south coast of Timor, where the change-over was to take place. Disembarkation was in progress when currents caught and swung the ship on its anchors, causing her to ground solidly at the stern. Efforts made to free her were unavailing, and next day Japanese bombers attacked the ship relentlessly. On the 25th of September. The Voyager's crew exploded demolition charges on board and, for good measure, she was fired fore and aft early next morning to prevent her being salvaged by the Japanese. The crew were later evacuated to Darwin by the corvette, HMAS Warrnambool.
