25.01.2022 Hi All.. Thanks for an awesome group.. This is me in 2013 with my Irlen filters..I now have a darker pair for I am more light sensitive and only wear these for ...church (I sing in choir and play bells and need the wider lenses than my other pair have) So there are not many pics with my new, darker glasses as you can barely see my eyes.. :( I love my green eyes... Thanks again to know that I am not alone... Sometimes it feels that way... :( but, I am very grateful to Irlen for my migraines are much less, I can read without having to stop after every line (which the eye dr tried with bifocals unsuccessfully to fix)... From JR HI to my 30's I basically stopped reading for pleasure.. It is so nice to be able to read a book for FUN.. It is awesome to not have been in a car accident in almost 7+ years since my first pair (I was always rear-ending ppl due to no depth perception).. I was just called a klutz as I would frequently run into walls and people..thanks again :) See more

24.01.2022 AOTSS has saved us from years of anguish! Struggling to read, write, and see, and attention issues. With the simple act of putting the right filters before our ...eyes, corrected what my kids saw. Going to all the wrong eye specialists and realizing it was the brain’s interpretation of light issue, has given us so much hope for overcoming all the learning issues my children had. One of my kids saw 22++44==66 instead of 2+4=6 , took three hours per subject, and after filters his abilities were amazing. He has scored well in his math club and reads so well that he gave me 12 books to put on his portfolio review that semester. He read those books without me no prompting-with what used to be 3 hours of struggling per subject. Miracles abound! See more

23.01.2022 We had a year 4 student recently who has beautiful neat writing. She also enjoys writing. However, she always runs out of time copying from the board or doing a...ny writing task in general and this is frustrating. She also gets headaches at the end of a school day and is often exhausted. She said when she writes, the words she is writing are blurry and move. Also the lines she is writing on 'go down the page' or slant as she indicated with her hand. When we diagnosed her specific Irlen tint and used these along with the use of a specific colour of paper, she found writing so much easier! To us, it looked the same, but without the words blurring or moving and the lines staying straight on the page, it required far less energy for her to write neat. She was so happy because writing is something she likes to do and writing neat is important to her Sometimes the symptoms of Irlen Syndrome aren't always easy to recognise and can be overlooked. So if your child is struggling in any way at school with reading, writing or keeping up, suffers from headaches or is overly exhausted at the end of the school day, consider an Irlen assessment just to make sure. 21.01.2022 My client was recommended by a friend to be screened for Irlen Syndrome at my Clinic. As is often the case someone else in the family (his grand-daughter) has t...he Syndrome and is already using an overlay. My client is 65 and he had never been able to read for more than a few minutes without the words becoming blurry. Indeed when this happened and he looked up everything else was blurry too and he felt dizzy. He would try to make things clear again by shutting or rubbing his eyes. He would feel unable to concentrate and just wanted to get the reading over with; it was difficult for him to understand anything he read because he had to put so much effort into trying to see the words. Although my client knew that he struggled to read, it was only when he chose a particular color of overlay (green in his case) that he could see what a difference it made over his Ipad. He was very excited and amazed and here are some of the things he said: What a difference, I can see all of the words on the page not just the one I am looking at! This little overlay will change my life! I can stare at the page and my eyes don’t feel tired! I can read and find the next line, I can look at people and then find the word I am up to.. I can’t wait for Bible study! I can concentrate on my reading and understand better! When I look up things are still clear! My client wishes to tell you that it is never too late, whatever your age, to be screened for Irlen Syndrome, especially if you know of a family member who experiences the condition. He has shared his story to spread awareness.

18.01.2022 This year 4 student has difficulty with reading, gets headaches and is very fidgety during reading. She reported that the page looked so bright to her and the ...words become blurry and move. She described the movement as 'words breaking up, with gaps between letters and those letters are jumping around'. When we diagnosed her specific Irlen tint, she was quick to say 'The words stop moving!' They no longer jumbled or separated either and the page no longer looked bright. It was a lot more comfortable and easy to look at. All of these things are going to make reading so much easier for this student. She will be able to focus her energy on actually reading and comprehending now, rather than trying so hard just to see what each word is! And the smile on her face at the end was priceless. Such a rewarding job See more

18.01.2022 Checking out your eyesight is the first stage to road safety. But did you know you can have perfect 20/20 vision and still experience blur, distortion, double v...ision, night blindness, white out with the sun? Irlen syndrome can seriously affect your judgment, confidence and driving ability . More and more driving instructors are becoming more aware and suggesting Irlen screening (in the first ins). I have had clients referred by instructors who will not continue with the lessons until the problem is sorted out. Irlen filters can be worn at night (I wear mine I see no colour) Happy to talk . 17.01.2022 Some of the comments from critics of Irlen lenses is that children just choose the colour they want and all girls have pink or purple and all boys choose blue. ...This might be what happens at other suppliers of coloured lenses but they are NOT suppliers of specific Irlen tinted lenses or a Certified Irlen Diagnostician. At an Irlen tint assessment the colour selection process is quite involved even with young children and children who are not good readers. So how do we make sure the tint is correct? Lots of observation, lots of questioning and lots of listening to what the client is telling us. Does the child stop wiggling and fidgeting? Does the child stop blinking and squinting? Do they tell us the words have stopped moving or changing? Can they read better, or for non-readers are they more focussed on the page and words and willing to have a go at reading? But what if their favourite colour is pink and they just want pink lenses......well if they can't read any better, don't sit still or continue to fidget then we keep checking colours and maybe combining colours till we find a combination that works. 13.01.2022 Problems with Eye Test? You may have Irlen Syndrome. The last video Krist Samaritan Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston) shared of 12 year old Gianna demonstrated h...ow those with Irlen Syndrome (visual processing disorder) need to use their reading overlay in order to obtain an accurate Rx test. Only when distortions of the letters are stopped can the correct Rx be gauged. (www.facebook.com/161559627523690/videos/285313715903670) This current video demonstrates how Irlen Spectral Filters (worn as glasses) can filter the light directly entering the eye and so stop the wavelengths causing the distortions without need of a reading overlay. The color used in Irlen glasses can also be much more precise and in addition stop any distortions of objects in the environment as well as text. Watch Gianna ‘ace’ reading the Eye Chart with her Irlen lens color, as well as explain what the letters usually look like even with her correct Rx. It was also wonderful to hear her explain how it felt when those letters stopped changing and moving! 12.01.2022 Research has shown that approximately 1 in 5 people have symptoms of the Visual Processing Disorder known as Irlen Syndrome. That means that there is a very hig...h chance that one of these children may be experiencing those symptoms. These can include light sensitivity, visual discomfort when reading from white paper under bright lights, words changing places on the page, words disappearing, words moving so close together that they hide the gap between them, letters changing places within the words so that they are unrecognisable, headaches every day, sore eyes, excessive fatigue as the day progresses, all of which, either together or in combination can result in reading or learning difficulties. The SAD THING is that the kids think that all of this happens to everyone, so they DO NOT TELL THE TEACHER OR THEIR PARENTS, so nobody understands WHY they are having so many problems! #readingproblems #readingdifficulties #cannotread #hatesreading #willnotread Further information is available from the following website www.irlendyslexia.com See more

11.01.2022 The Irlen Method has been used for over 25 years to identify and help people with a type of processing problem called Irlen Syndrome, formerly known as Scotopic... Sensitivity Syndrome (SSS). Irlen Syndrome is not an optical problem. It is a problem with the brain's ability to process visual information. This problem tends to run in families and is not currently identified by other standardised educational or medical tests. Irlen Syndrome can affect many different areas, including: Academic and work performance, Behavior, Attention, Ability to sit still, Concentration. This problem can manifest itself differently for each individual. This problem is not remediable and is often a lifetime barrier to learning and performance. If you suffer from any of the following, Irlen Syndrome might be your problem: The print looks different, The environment looks different, Slow or inefficient reading, Poor comprehension, Eye strain, Fatigue, Headaches, Difficulty with math computation, Difficulty copying, Difficulty reading music, Poor sports performance, Poor depth-perception, Low motivation, Low self-esteem Symptoms of Irlen Syndrome Light Sensitivity, Bothered by glare, fluorescent lights, bright lights, sunlight and sometimes lights at night. Some individuals experience physical symptoms and feel tired, sleepy, dizzy, anxious, or irritable. Others experience headaches, mood changes, restlessness or have difficulty staying focused, especially with bright or fluorescent lights. Read more about light sensitivity and the Irlen Method >> Reading Problems Poor comprehension Misreads words Problems tracking from line to line Reads in dim light Skips words or lines Reads slowly or hesitantly Takes breaks Loses place Avoids reading Discomfort Strain and fatigue Tired or sleepy Headaches or nausea Fidgety or restless Eyes that hurt or become watery Attention and Concentration Problems Problems with concentration when reading and doing academic tasks Often people can appear to have other conditions, such as attention deficit disorder, and are given medication unnecessarily. Writing Problems: Trouble copying Unequal spacing Unequal letter size Writing up or downhill Inconsistent spelling Other Characteristics: Strain or fatigue from computer use Difficulty reading music Sloppy, careless math errors Misaligned numbers in columns Ineffective use of study time Lack of motivation Grades do not reflect the amount of effort Depth Perception: Clumsiness Difficulty catching balls Difficulty judging distances Additional caution necessary while driving Distortions: Words on the page lack clarity or stability; i.e., may appear to be blurry, moving, or disappear. 10.01.2022 I saw a young girl recently who was so light sensitive that I had to switch off all of the artificial lights on the clinic. We had good natural light coming th...rough the windows and that worked very well for her. She gets headaches every day at school because of the fluorescent lights in the classroom. This, in combination with white photocopy paper for all worksheets resulted in sore eyes and a headache EVERY DAY! Surprisingly, her mother was unaware of the headaches because her daughter never told her about them. As well as headaches, she experienced discomfort when reading as the white paper is very glarey and bright. If your child has headaches regularly during the school week, but not so much on weekends, please consider that they may have the Visual Processing Disorder that is also known as Irlen Syndrome. Sometimes, these headaches are accompanied by a feeling of nausea as well. #irlensyndrome #headaches #migraines #nausea #lightsensitivity #soreeyes For further information go to www.irlendyslexia.com

10.01.2022 Did you know that all white lights contain the rainbow of colours? The rainbow of colours is the only part of sunlight that human eyes can detect so it is refer...red to as the "visible spectrum" of light. Each colour travels through the air at different speeds, have different wavelengths and so have different levels of energy. We don't normally see the rainbow unless it is raining where the sun is shining. The rain falls through the light and causes the different colours to separate according to their different wavelengths. Unfortunately, some people's brains have trouble processing some of these wavelengths of light (colours) and they experience some physical discomfort and visual distortions when reading and writing on white paper. It is these that are filtered out by Irlen lenses. That is why they can stop these distortions immediately. 09.01.2022 Thank you, Zoe, for a beautiful Visual photograph of how Irlen affects you. Zoe said "As a person with Irlen's and a mum to a son who also has it I struggle to ...explain how it affects me. I'm also a photographer and while experimenting with a new lens I took the image that really captures how my vision bounces from tiny details to blurring away from other things in my line of view, especially when reading. 08.01.2022 Problems with work performance when using a computer, phone or checking documents? Does working under bright lights make things worse? You may have a visual pro...cessing disorder called Irlen Syndrome. Michelle came to the Krist Samaritan Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston) in crisis. She is 49 years old and was ‘written up’ at work due to missing detail in documents when checking them. Michelle knew that Irlen Syndrome was in the family as both children had screened positive, but like lots of mamas instead of putting the oxygen mask on herself first had looked after the children. Now the family’s income was in jeopardy and her anxiety was so bad that when I showed her a page of dense text her leg started to shake. In the video Michelle describes what was happening to words and numbers when checking documents. She was amazed that not only did the Irlen, colored glasses stop those distortions but later, when we went outside she saw in 3D for the very first time! No wonder she hadn’t been able to walk in a straight line. Here’s an email from Michelle after the session: Thank you for allowing me to share my work struggles and if it can help adults, please use it as a tool! This is my first write up ever in over 30 years of working! The symptoms have worsened as time has progressed. You are never too old to improve your quality of life! 07.01.2022 Did you know Irlen Syndrome is hereditary? Did you know that children and parents may not have the same symptoms? Did you know Irlen Syndrome ranges in ...severity and symptoms between individuals? Do you know Irlen Syndrome symptoms can often been seen in very young children and even babies? So what are the symptoms of Irlen Syndrome? - Light sensitivity, which can be seen in young children who try to shade their eyes in bright sun, cry when going from inside to outside into bright light, rubbing their eyes under bright light. - Fidgeting and seeming hyperactivity, children often can't sit still even when eating dinner, wiggling and rocking in chairs, rubbing their head and eyes. - constant complaints of headaches, sore eyes and nausea at school - difficulty with reading and writing, young children often won't colour in, write their name or numbers, or do any paperwork. 06.01.2022 Good luck to all of the kids with dyslexia going back to school. We see you and know how brave you are!

06.01.2022 If you have a child with Irlen lenses, please ensure that they have their tint checked at least every 18 months to 2 years. There are a couple of reasons for th...is.. 1) the lenses can fade over time and because the tint is so specific, just a slight change can make a big difference in the effectiveness of the lenses. Often, this change is so gradual that it is not noticed until it starts to affect the distortions experienced. 2) as children grow, their perception changes and so, the particular tint that they selected at the initial lens assessment is not optimal for them now. Sometimes they feel that the present tint is still working and is "perfect" but when they are presented with an alternative during the recheck appointment, they find something that is actually better than the present tint. This also happens with adults as well. Often, once receiving their first set of lenses, their brain "settles down" and the tint that they require changes as time goes on. #irlensyndrome #irlentint #recheckoftint #visualdistortions #visualprocessing #perception #growthspurt for further information go to http://ow.ly/2ZH550Bxw7z

06.01.2022 VISUAL PROCESSING is involved when the brain has to "work out" the signals it receives from the eyes. Most of us take for granted that what we "see" is the same... as what others "see" when we look at the same thing. This is a major assumption made by parents and teachers when they are listening to their child or students reading to them. A number of parents comment to us, "I tell him what the word is but when he sees the same word on the next page he doesn't know it!" We tell them, "The problem is that you don't know what the word looked like for him when you told him what it was on this page and it could look totally different on the next page." This is an example of how we assume that what we see is the same as what everyone else sees. For people with the Visual Processing Disorder that results in symptoms that we know as Irlen Syndrome, they DO NOT always see what we assume they do. If your child is demonstrating this symptom when reading to you, you should consider that they may have Irlen Syndrome. Ask them "How do the words look for you when you look at them on the page?" That simple question can provide the opportunity for you to understand what the problem is for your child when reading. #reading #readingdifficulties #visualprocessing #irlensyndrome #visualdistortions #cantrememberthewordfromthepreviouspage Further information can be found at www.irlendyslexia.com

05.01.2022 I tested an adult today who does online study and she says she is really struggling because she has to read over and over again for meaning. Therefore it take...s so long for her to complete a task that by the end she is exhausted with severe eyestrain and a headache. When we examined what the print looked like to her we discovered that the words moved up and down and that the page/computer looked extremely bright like it glowed. When I say 'we discovered' I mean that she didn't realise this was going on until we diagnosed her specific Irlen tint and she was able to clarify what indeed the page looked like. She felt this was a breakthrough! With the Irlen Lenses the page wasn't bright at all and she could see the words clearly. They didn't even move! She cannot wait for her Irlen Lenses and has fast tracked them so she can put her study on hold until she gets them. Now she knows what reading CAN be like, she doesn't want to spend anymore time looking at it without her glasses. Contact us for more information or to book an assessment. See more

05.01.2022 He told me that when he reads it feels like someone poured a big bucket of water over the words. It was a great feeling of relief to have the words stay still, bold and easy to see.

05.01.2022 In just the same way you get your Rx (eye prescription) checked each year, in case your EYES HAVE CHANGED, it is recommended that you get your Irlen color (worn... in glasses) checked, in case YOUR BRAIN CHANGES. Common factors for brain change include: natural brain development with age (growth spurts), being on different medications, illness, experiencing concussions/TBI, hormonal changes. Adele first came to the Houston/Galveston Irlen Clinic when 8 years old, and blue was the color. The following year it was grey-blue. Mom and Adele didn’t expect much of a change this year, but being 10 years there had been a growth spurt and orange lenses were the result! This color, when compared with the old one, made the page stop ‘glowing’, didn’t feel dark indoors and made eyes feel SO comfortable. To get tested (or re-tested) at the Houston/Galveston Clinic please fill out a contact form http://www.yaxley-irlen.com/contact.php or call 832 720 3071 (and leave a message)
