19.01.2022 Islamic Medical Association of Queensland Website: imaq.org.au MEDIA RELEASE IMAQ Life savers Course... Islamic Medical Association of Queensland (IMAQ) is running an education session aimed at providing simple immediate first aid skills to the community. Across Australia, a worrying issue is that members of the public who suffer from collapse, choking or even out of hospital cardiac arrest suffer from poor outcomes due to the lack of effective first aid in the community. A shocking figure is that less than half of cardiac arrest patients receive CPR before an ambulance arrives and early, effective CPR leads to a doubling of survival rates. We feel that the Muslim community can play a vital role in helping to fill this gap. EVENT DETAILS Date: 26 September TIME; 10 -12 Venue: Mackay Mosque, 6 Flinders court, Bakers Creek, 4740 Your attendance, participation and any media coverage of the event or broader initiative would be greatly appreciated. HOW TO PARTICIPATE An Eventbrite registration link has been posted to the community, Due to COVID registration is compulsory. Please do visit and join us for what we hope is the first in of many courses designed to help the community. ABOUT IMAQ: The Islamic Medical Association of Queensland Inc. (IMAQ) was formed in Brisbane in 2010 to establish a network of Muslim Healthcare Professionals. The initial need to establish an organisation of Muslim healthcare professionals in Queensland was first identified a few years ago in response to the increase in the number of health professionals and the specific needs of both our Muslim healthcare providers and those of our patients. In January 2010 a group of Doctors, Dentists and Allied Health Professionals eventually came together to establish the organisation, which was officially launched in July 2010. IMAQ has done significant amount of charity work including its members doing free surgical camps for last few years in Asia and Africa. We endeavour to work in collaboration with other Muslim health professional organizations in all states and territories of Australia. IMAQ is a member of The Federation of Islamic Medical associations (FIMA). 42 Islamic medical associations are members of FIMA, which has more than 50,000 professionals being its members. FIMA Please visit IMAQ and FIMA website for further details. Yours Sincerely Dr Muhammad Ashraf President Islamic Society of Mackay, Treasure Islamic Medical Association of QLD. 16.01.2022 Today we ran a Tarbiah workshop at the Islamic Society of Mackay. Overall it was a great success, with members of the community enjoying food whilst listening to enlightening talks and participating in interesting discussions. The event began with a delicious breakfast of many different cuisines and options. The new Imam of the Mackay Mosque, Imam Mojib Ullah, began the day with a Dars-e-Quran on the 10 characteristics required of every Muslim and how to lead a life seeking... the pleasure of God. Next, Dr Zohair Rahman gave a thought-provoking talk to the youth on how to be a confident Muslim in the current times; where conviction and knowledge are essential. This was followed by a fun and educational quiz for the kids on the life of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. It was great to see that in between games and fun activities, the kids were enthusiastic when learning about their religion. After lunch, there was a special Marriage Makeover session for parents and young adults in the importance of marriage in Islam, how we can find the best examples through the life of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH and a panel discussion where members were able to ask about obstacles faced in real life experiences and how to solve them. The event was wrapped up with short commentary by various members of the community in light of their experience with parenting, resulting in a meaningful conversation between parents and children about the topic. The workshop was a commendable success and we hope to run more in the future.
