23.01.2022 Here is a bit more about the very impressive cover crop at The Overseer Saddlery. Jason Talks us through what is going on and how they got there. Nice shirt Jason!

23.01.2022 Great time to plant seeds and get the veggie garden cranking! Why? Because it's March. And it rained And it makes you feel good.... Sunshine, fresh air, exercise and soil microbes help your immune system. You can wrestle back your power from the hysteria of the great broccoli shortage of 2020 (seriously, where is the broccoli?!? Why is nobody talking about this?) #dontforgettheflowers #grownwithbiocast #regenerativeagriculture See more

22.01.2022 FREEEEEEEE! 'For the Love of Soil' by Nicole Masters is free on Kindle this week! She has an excellent part on worms which you all need to read so make sure you go and download! (The whole book is excellent actually)

22.01.2022 Good events coming up in our local community for fire affected people

21.01.2022 Here is a great story about drought recovery in the land this week from our friends @Richard Daugherty and Sarah Burrows of Balala Station near Uralla. Richard used his imagination and management skills and turned a hard packed holding paddock into a salad bowl for livestock with the aid of a great direct drill seeder and a bit of Biocast down the furrow. We love working with the people at the forefront who are backing their good ideas and helping nature get back on track after the dry spell. @Sarah is also 1 half of the brilliant Red8 Produce . A great innovation that will help livestock producers have greater flexibility over the processing of their animals. IWe hope that you get longevity of green!

18.01.2022 We've been sharing a bit recently about the benefits of a microbial inoculation for your seeds, and there have been lots of questions about the best way to do it, how much to use, etc. Here's a video which shows just how easy it is! We've seen this approach really take off in the last couple of years, largely thanks to the pioneering hard work of NutriSoil; and given the results we think we'll see a whole lot more of it going on! For more information on how to use Biocast+ for seed inoculation and more, check out this page: https://www.biocast.com.au/biocast/application/

18.01.2022 Here's our new native plants getting a soak in Biocast+ before they go in the ground at the farm to create some nice dense bird habitat. This is a great thing to do for any plant when you transplant it because it inoculates the roots with beneficial microbes, ready to get to work tending the plant; plus it contains naturally produced growth stimulants which assist new root growth and transplant shock. We're happy to say that all the plants that went in yesterday are looking... very perky today ... well, except that one our little helper liberated from its pot, leaving most of the roots behind... This method is best used on the day of planting. Follow mixing instructions on the bottle to add Biocast+ 1:20 with water in a bucket. Place your plant in and soak until the root ball is wet through - the time will depend on how big it is and how dried out. Give root-bound plants an extra long soak. Biocast+ is a biostimulant, not a fertiliser, so it's gentle enough to use even on natives!

17.01.2022 We inoculated the corn seed for the home garden this season with Biocast+, and we're pretty happy with the result! We're trialling germinating them in pots this year because mice got everything last year . Coralie is holding the biggest one, which was in a tray and had managed to grow sideways without being air pruned. Check out how much root there is compared with shoot! Imagine if that were powering into the ground, how much resilience it would give this baby plant! The other one is winner of 'most root hairs'. All plants showed signs of early rhisosphere formation, with soil clinging to roots even after rinsing. In the last picture you can see we got a good germination rate We dunked the seedlings in diluted Biocast+ before planting in the garden to ease the transplant shock. #grownwithbiocast #seedinoculation

17.01.2022 Go you good thing! Nick and Alex sent us this pic of these shoots with mega dreddies on seeds which were inocculated with Biocast+. What we see here is the result of microbe communication. As a liquid vermicast, Biocast+ is full of living microbes and autoinducers (chemical signals from microbes). According to Dr Christine Jones, these are signalling to the 'endosphere', or microbiome within the seed/ plant, to get out and do some work. This means that when the seed sprou...ts it does so roots first, donating it's first carbohydrates not to creating leafy solar panels but to consolidating that underground relationship with beneficial microbes by feeding them root exudates. The deep roots with microbial associations like this set the plant up to thrive, and be resilient through the more vulnerable early establishment phase and set it up better for dealing with climatic variations like dry spells. Lee met Nick and Alex Anderson at the Maia Technology Pty Ltd field day where they were presenters. Biocast+ seed inoculation is just one of the tools these guys are using in a box full of awesome land management techniques! Keep an eye out for where these two head in the future! #regenerativeagriculture #grownwithbiocast #biocast #microbiome #seedinoculation

15.01.2022 Agroecologist David Hardwick came out to the farm today to make some Landcare videos about supporting your soil post fire, and demystifying inputs. Can't wait to share the content with you! Thanks Wild Colt Productions for your pro filming and @midcoast to tops landcare for the support!

11.01.2022 Did you hear Lee on NSW Country Hour last week with Penny and Ernst, talking about how well their avocados are recovering after the drought and devestating hail storm? We visited them a couple of weeks ago and their trees are looking magnificent! Interview starts at 24:28 and goes for about 5 minutes: https://www.abc.net.au//nsw-coun/nsw-country-hour/12418680

11.01.2022 Biostimulants + great management for fire and drought recovery. Good one Martin, look forward to seeing the recovery continue!

10.01.2022 Lee chats with Lyn from Manning Landcare about how we run our cast harvest beds and make Biocast+

09.01.2022 How much difference can good management of your landscape make? Enough to make your neighbours think that you must be stealing water! It is great to be involved with people that are making big and positive changes to the farms, well done Sarah Burrows and Richard Daugherty.

09.01.2022 It's amazing how quickly soil dies We're doing some landscaping at the moment and where we've dug up the plants the soil has turned to dust within minutes!! Photosynthesising plants play such an important role in soil formation and maintenance that removing them is akin to decapitation. The functions of a living soil, such as cohesion, water infiltration and storage, carbon sequestration and storage, and more, are lost. The good thing is that when we know this, we can manage for it. Our action plan is to feed the remaining soil biology with biostimulants such as Biocast+, seaweed, fish, humates and calcium; and get plants back in asap, with seed inoculated in signals of life from Biocast+. Multi species cover crops are great here for getting soil function kick started again!

08.01.2022 This is a share that makes us feel all PUMPED and a bit warm and fuzzy. Biocast and the Overseer first started working together in 2018, just before my youngest daughter was born. We started in less than sympathetic climatic conditions and although we went ok, with Jason's mineral knowledge and Biocast's biology we always knew we had not had a real chance to see what was possible. The land at the Overseer always looked better than anything that I passed on the long drive to ...getting there but I always knew that I had not seen it really singing. Enter 2020 and a beautiful return to consistent rainfall during the growth period and look what happened!!! I wish I could drive up and see it with my own eyes but that will have to wait for the next little while. Meeting the team from The Overseer Saddlery was a turning point for us as a business and for the friendships that were made on that first trip. I am greatly looking forward to the next time that we can visit and sit by the fire and have a good chat and solve the rest of the world problems, until then enjoy you salad. See more

07.01.2022 Remember Joe? (Or perhaps you remember his dreddies from a few weeks ago, 2nd pic.) He's sent us an update with this photo of him standing in an epic field of 6 week old oats and barley. Joe decided to stay away from the ferts, so his only input into this crop was Biocast+ as a seed dressing at 10L/ tonne. Joe has planted 4.5 t seed over 65 ha at a massive cost of $3.04 (approx ) / ha. Joe is now having the enviable problem of trying to keep up with the amount of feed he's g...ot! The whole biostimulants as a seed dressing idea is really kicking off, and with results like that, we don't wonder why! #regenerativeagriculture #grownwithbiocast #thanksmicrobes #seedinoculation #biostimulant #pumped

06.01.2022 Lee had a chat for Manning Landcare last week, here he's showing what happens in our worm breeding beds!

06.01.2022 A few days ago we posted about our corn seedlings and how we wet the root ball with Biocast+ before planting. So, did it work? Happy to report that they are all looking bright green and perky, and their growth hasn't skipped a beat. No transplant shock in sight From here on they'll get Biocast+ plus mineral supplements through the watering can over their leaves every week or 2. They will also get lots more friends, complementing/ supporting the microbial diversity with plan...t diversity for all round health, resilience and hopefully soil building! You can see the cheeky mint in there, and mixed greens in the background. This is actually a ginger bed, which we planted at the same time. There's a row of chard in front, and when the corn gets tall enough we'll be adding in a few types of bean and cucumber, some flowers, and I'm sure a few other things too! We'll let some 'weeds' stay. Guided and inspired by Dr Christine Jones and Limestone Permaculture First time growing quite like this for us so let's see what happens! #thanksmicrobes

05.01.2022 We're looking forward to this virtual book launch with our great friend and mentor Gerry Gillespie. Gerry is internationally renowned for his wisdom and experience in turning 'waste' into a resource, and building soil. It's on this Wednesday, join in from your place!

05.01.2022 We remain open. The best way to get Biocast+ is via our website (www.biocast.com.au), or by calling or messaging us. Then it's delivered to your door, ready to get your plants cranking!

03.01.2022 Great regen ag story on Australian Story this evening with legend Charlie Massey! Did you see what Ian and Di Haggerty are doing with worm juice and compost on marginal country in WA?

03.01.2022 Some of the dreadies of 2020 so far. Yes I do get pumped every time that someone sends me a photo of their very early seedlings with an awesome root system from their crop that has been inoculated with Biocast. Why? Because it is a great sign that things in their soils are working. The core microbiome from within the seed, the microbes from Biocast and the microbes from the soil have all met each other and started a relationship with the plant that will help it function well ...for the whole of it's lifecycle. Root systems that go down before the shoot goes up are a setting that plant up to seek nutrient and moisture away from the surface. Without a good set of roots early, plants are susceptible to the surface layers drying out before there has been a follow up shower. All of the plants pictured have been treated with Biocast ONLY! And some (not all) of them will see no other inputs for their whole growing time! As a cost saving, that makes me very exited as well! We can be a s low as $16.50 a tonne. Get in touch if you want to know more. See more

02.01.2022 A big thanks to Matthew Hulse from Jillamatong for sharing this little video with us, and for sharing the Biocast+ love with your mate! ("the stuff" refered to in the video is Biocast+.) It is fantastic to see the life returning to some of these scorched areas and are very happy to have played a small part in the recovery.

02.01.2022 NEW BLOG// Interested to learn more about the benefits of inoculating your seed with living biology? We've created a post sharing our experience so far, the emerging science behind it, and the how to. #grownwithbiocast #regenerativeagriculture #thanksmicrobes #seedinoculation

01.01.2022 Want your seedlings to be pumped right from the get go, and overcome transplant shock? Here Lee shares how to use Biocast+ for transplanting seedlings, and how the microbes are helping. Part 3 of Lee's chat with Lyn from Landcare!
