11.01.2022 More great work from Two Bays Whale Project and images from photographers. Great to see more additions as we near the end of the season.

09.01.2022 Tomorrow at 12pm the Phillip Island Nature Parks will be chatting live with Leanne and Ross about their fieldwork with little penguins (and other species) on Phillip Island. They’ll be sharing firsthand knowledge and stories about how the wildlife populations they monitor - and the research techniques used to monitor them - have both changed over the years. Leanne has been with the Nature Parks for almost 30 years and has worked on many of our organisation's key projects during that time, so this week's Live is one you won't want to miss! 07.01.2022 Grab a cuppa and enjoy this informative talk by Mandy Watson, Natural Environment Programs Officer for the Barwon South West Region of DELWP! While humpback numbers are recovering along the east coast of Australia, sadly the same cannot be said for the eastern population of southern right whales. Genetically distinct from the western population found in South Australia and Western Australia our local population consists of as few as 298 individuals with only 68 breeding ...females. In this presentation, Mandy Watson, Natural Environment Programs Officer for the Barwon South West Region of DELWP, talks about the history of southern rights in our waters and the importance of citizen science in monitoring this critically endangered population. It is also a timely reminder of how images taken off Phillip Island can be contributed to the southern right whale photo identification project. Strict minimum approach distances for swimmers, vessels, jet skis and drones exist to protect both the whales and humans observing them. Happy listening!
