19.01.2022 NAS boxes (Network Attached Storage). Why doesn't everyone have one of these things? A central place where everyone's files get stored. Backs itself up to the Cloud. Multiple disks, so if one dies you don't lose everything. We use ours to store everything, play all our music, movies, it turns our dumb TV into a smart one. Whack one of these (or similar) in your house or office. You won't be sorry! https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/DS216j

16.01.2022 Like most parents I’ve been trying for years now to work out the best way to control/limit my kids device time. I started with banning devices in bedrooms and that was good but they’d just sit in the living room all day. Then I used to turn the router off for periods of time. Now I do it all through my Wi-Fi. All games are blocked to all devices all the time. Facebook only works at certain times of the day. Netflix only works on the weekends. My 18 y.o. who’s just finished school has open slather on his phone. I get more restrictive around exam time but I open it all up during school holidays. What does everyone else do? Any better ideas? Am I too big a control freak?

08.01.2022 Setting new lows for the NBN. 4mbps download speed and .5 upload! Not far from the node either. That said, it's not usually this bad and a friend of mine with an office in Warriewood came to Avalon the other day to upload his 2 x 5 gb files which he just couldn't do there. Hopefully once ALL of Avalon has switched over from ADSL (April 2018) it'll be a lot better. Suspect the support will still be terrible though.

07.01.2022 Warringah Rats vs Manly Marlins semi-final this Saturday at Warriewood!! Oh hang on...this is meant to be the IT Analysts page isn't it?

03.01.2022 Ah NBN. No matter how long it had taken, if they'd just done fibre to our houses (FTTP) instead of the tight arse option of using the copper network (FTTN), then in 20 years time we would all have fantastic internet speeds and how long it took to roll out, or how much it cost, or who won the politics of it would have been long forgotten. These fights between NBN and the providers will get sorted eventually, but the rubbish infrastructure is here to stay and it won't take long before it's a big bottleneck. Imagine if they'd made the Harbour Bridge only 4 lanes back in the 50's because it was quicker and cheaper? My opinion anyway!!
