24.01.2022 The best time of year to travel to Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays is between April and October, with the ideal time being June, July and August. I like to base myself at Airlie Beach and can easily stay 5 nights as there as there are so many things to do!... I have stayed at both the Mantra Resort which is 4.5 star, and the Terraces Resort which is apartment style and a bit cheaper if you’re on a budget or travelling with family as they have small kitchenettes. There are so many good restaurants in Airlie Beach, especially for seafood! Some of my favourites Fish D’vine & it’s Rum Bar, The Deck and Little Vegas Burger & Bar. My favourite activities to do from Airlie Beach are swimming, snorkelling, exploring, and enjoying delicious seafood. If you want to snorkel some untouched paradise Hook island is a great spot, untouched, uninhabited, and rugged. There is an abundance of fish and coral to see. Local tour operators will take you there for the day you need to make sure you go with a reputable company though. Island hopping from Airlie beach is another great day out. Ferries operate between Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island and Daydream Island. The Island allow day use of the pool areas and restaurants by day trippers. Many tours include morning tea, lunch, and snacks plus your snorkelling gear. Almost everyone’s favourite tour is Whitehaven beach and the Hills inlet. This is a full 9-hour tour from Airlie Beach if you sail. Whitehaven is hands down the most amazing sight you will ever see. Located in the heart of the Whitsundays it’ white powder sand beach and turquoise waters are simply stunning. Here you can snorkel the fringes of Chalkies Beach. If time and energy levels permit you can hike to the look out to see the view of Hill inlet which is breathtaking. You can sail to Whitehaven or for a romantic adventure take a scenic flight by helicopter or small plane and have your own private picnic lunch. 12.01.2022 After 3 nights on Hayman Island we transferred by luxury boat back to Hamilton Island for a 3 night stay there. Hamilton is the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays, at 4.5km from north to south and 3km from east to west. It is the only island in the Great Barrier Reef with its own commercial airport and access is a short, direct flight from Sydney (2 hours).... Here we stayed at the Beach Club. This is 5 star adults only. Qualia is the ultimate property on Hamilton Island and then Beach club is next. We were met at the wharf and taken to Beach Club by the luxury van. There is only one room type here which was lovely and overlooked the ocean. Breakfast is served around the infinity pool area which is beautiful as the pool overlooks the sea. Hamilton Island has a charge back facility throughout, so we dined at various places and just charged back to our room. Hamilton Island can take up to 5000 guests (!) so can be quite busy with so many people. The benefit of it being so large is that there are plenty of restaurants to choose from and loads of activities to do however you should prebook all to avoid disappointment. From Hamilton Island we joined a Whitehaven Beach trip for the half day tour where you spend a couple of hours at a beautiful beach, however the full day tour goes to the Hill inlet on Whitehaven which is the iconic location that you see on all the photos. I would do the full day tour next time to see the inlet. Overall we had a great time on both islands. If you are looking at doing a combination like we did I would recommend staying at Hamilton first and finishing the holiday at the quieter and more luxurious Hayman Island.
