If youre thinking of buying, selling or leasing, keep Fletchers at the forefront of your mind. A fantastic business and sponsor of Ivanhoe Cricket Club.

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Adam ‘Hoggy’ McKern (pictured below) on his debut for the Ivanhoe first XI tomorrow. He becomes the 529th player to don the blue cap since 1907. Hoggy played his junior cricket at Ivanhoe and has worked his way up the grades after his stint with Ivanhoe Grammar. With 6 wickets so far this year, he’s probably the leading wicket taker in the subbies second XI comp, so will no doubt be disappointed he’ll miss out on the opportunity to continue taking easy pol...es in the magoos. Hoggy, from what we can see from his social media habits, is very popular with the biddies, so no doubt he’ll be keeping a close eye on how club role models like Sheafie, Moose and Troy Haynes go about their business. It’s unconfirmed at this stage, but we also believe Hoggy may have the highest confirmed ATAR of the current playing group. A sore spot for previous clubhouse leader Sangerz Chauhan. A huge effort for someone not educated in one of Melbourne’s fine Catholic institutions. Good luck tomorrow Hoggy.

18.01.2022 MATCH REPORT MONDAY In the sombre mood of the Ivanhoe rooms after the firsts went down to bottom-placed Coburg was broken by the hyena-like laugh of in-form batsman James Hopkins as he toasted his maiden first grade half century on the weekend. His celebratory Furphy was willingly toasted by his young teammate Alex Pannell, also fifty runs the richer after a chanceless innings. They say that individual success is no match for team success, clearly Bulldog and Lex disagree, un...ashamedly grinning and winking at each other throughout the entire post-match dressing down. No amount of 120m bombs hit off his own bowling could dampen Lexs mood as he regularly refreshed MyCricket, mindful of his rapidly improving average and possibility of snaring a trophy come presentation night. All in all, a disappointing loss for the boys who will hopefully look to bounce back this week against the Wicks. The seconds ventured out to Coburg where Tom Foster put on a masterclass, smashing 91, before getting caught prior to snaring a much earned century. Nav also whacked a few to keep the finals hopes alive for our seconds. It was pleasing to see avid fan of this weekly report and inspirational mother of our second grade skipper, Nellie McKenna come down to watch her son make an equally impressive 2 off 4 balls. Were told that Nellie, a Devonport native, was mightily impressed with her trip out to Coburg and the street art on every corner. What a wonderful place for her to visit. The thirds met their match on the weekend, coming up against a team whose attitude to punctuality was poorer than the British at Gallipoli. At the toss, twenty minutes prior to the first ball, both teams had enough players combined to hold a centre wicket training session. Ivanhoe took to the field with 9 players, which fortunately rose to 11 once everyone located their home ground. Thomas Downs-Hunt took some crucial early wickets, while new player Callan Boyle looked impressive with the ball, taking two crucial wickets. Unfortunately it wasnt enough to secure the points with Ivanhoe going down by 20 runs. The fourths kept their finals hopes alive with a big win over Taylors Lakes in country Victoria. Trent McManus and Marty Dench both got half centuries in the ten wicket win, while Leo Dench took two wickets. Another big game against the Wicks for our boys this week! Make sure you grab your tickets for the 4k draw on the 29th of Feb. It promises to be a massive night! Go Hoes!

18.01.2022 PETE BUSZARD IS BACK

16.01.2022 MATCH REPORT MONDAY It was fantastic to see the firsts get over the line against our arch rivals Moorabbin on Saturday. After overnight rain almost caused the match to be abandoned, the umpires got together and came up with a Galilean-like revolution: they would give the pitch time to dry and play an abbreviated match. A decision that our second grade enviously eyed off. After winning the toss and bowling, Moorabbin made 143 from their 30 overs. Ivanhoe managed to chase this ...down with only balls to spare, with Kasun making an impressive 83 not out, taking his season total to about 3000 runs. He was supported by Sunni (28*), Amit (21) and Alex Pannell who made a crucial 2. The season is still alive for our number one team. The seconds were bolstered by the return of their skipper who entered Christmas with a positive captaincy record, a rare sight for an Ivanhoe 2nd XI skipper. The boys awoke to a sunny morning and arrived at Ivanhoe Park to be greeted by a flat, albeit, slightly damp wicket. After both teams eagerly warmed up, tossed, and got ready to play, they were met with the news that the wicket wasnt dry or safe enough to play. After both umpires gave the pitch three and a half minutes to sufficiently dry, they both declared the pitch hadnt dried out satisfactorily, and declared the match abandoned. Despite the protests of the skipper and cricket operations manager, the umps couldnt be swayed and MC and his men reluctantly walked away with the 3 points. The thirds were met with a wicket that one would expect a football umpire to throw a ball up on, rather then bounce it. In an ironic twist compared to the game taking place up the road, all but one member of both teams and umpires agreed that the match be abandoned then and there. Unfortunately for all involved, it happened to be the opposition skipper who saw no issues in playing a game of cricket on a pitch submerged in water. After asking why this pitch hadnt been covered, he then sought out the location of our sightscreen, turf practice wickets, visitors changerooms and national sports museum. At around 2:30pm the logical decision was made to abandon the game, a decision that could be have been achieved some three hours earlier. The fourths came back to earth with a thud on the weekend, suffering one of their rare defeats for the year. After bowling firsts, the fourths conceded 276 runs, a big ask in any format, let alone a one-day match. Zach Mills bowled well for two wickets, while Brenton Murphy also snagged a pair. Unfortunately the boys didnt get too close to the total, being bowled out for 111 off just 32 overs going hard for the runs. Paul Holden and Zach Mills both top scoring with 18 each. Another big round next week with some two day cricket at our doorstep. Make sure you grab your tickets for the 4k draw and keep the 8th of February clear for our clubs biggest event and fundraiser. It promises to be a great night. Go Hoes!

16.01.2022 Hey guys, Its really important in these tough times to support those that really support us. Melbourne Chain Wire Fencing have been a huge sponsor for us over the past few years and are 100% responsible for the upgraded net facilities that prevent us losing multiple balls. Keep these guys at the forefront of your mind if you need any fencing work done over the next little period. A great company to be involved in, Ivanhoe Cricket Club and their supporters are incredibly grateful.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to our main squeeze Rizwan Aqeel for making headlines over at the Herald Sun in their Subbies team of the week. A couple of drive-by's in there by the author but we will take it

16.01.2022 Amazing work by Ivanhoe wicketkeeper Vo Schofield. As much as we love to see guys being successful on field in cricket, its even more impressive to see guys standing up for such an important cause in the community that were all affected by. While times are no doubt tough financially for many in our wider community, if you can, please give what you can to support one of Ivanhoes best.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to club favourite Jason Bryce Quayle on his wedding to the beautiful Mandy. Well done on a wonderful wedding, enjoy Hawaii, and well see Quack back on the field come round 12 against Brunswick.

09.01.2022 SEASON UPDATE The Sub-District Committee have met over the past few days and have passed on the following information in regards to the upcoming 2020/21 season. At this stage, the committee have advised that the season will not begin before November 7th. Weve also been advised that community sport will not be able to take place prior to the commencement of Stage Two restrictions (roughly planned to begin around then).... While there is no official start date for the season yet, were excited for what is to come and encourage everyone to keep abreast of any training information or news from Sunni and our coaching team. Well continue to provide updates as they come to us. In the meantime, stay safe and look out for each other.

09.01.2022 Some thoughts How about the mental toughness involved in chases? You were almost scientific in such situations, clinically managing the run rate, and yet youve also spoken about being at your best when you were batting without a thought in your head. So how do you reconcile those two aspects: the calculation and being free of thoughts? I think you have enough time between balls and between overs to think about whats happening in the match situation. People talk about the ...conscious mind and the unconscious mind, and how they process different aspects of the game, but the reality is when you are facing up, you need an empty head that just allows you to rely on muscle memory, on the training youve done, and for the execution of shots to be instinctive. Thats the best way of minimising mistakes. In between deliveries and overs, you can think about calculation, think about targeting bowlers, about which areas of the field offers you more runs, and maybe you get to a stage where you really need to think about acceleration and the premeditation of certain shots that you want to play. But its all about staying in control of what you do in relation to the challenge thats presented to you - a run chase, setting a total, trying to score as quickly as possible, playing for time, trying to build a partnership in tough conditions. Mental strength is also about mental skills: the ability to compartmentalise; the ability to not worry about the innings you played just before, whether it was successful or you had a failure; the ability to read the game, read situations, read the strategy of the opposition, as soon as they set a field in place and be able to understand what they might be thinking of doing. So, mental dexterity, flexibility of thought - all of this comes under this overall term of "mental strength". But a lot of the time its built on absolute, infallible confidence that youve prepared well, that you have absolute belief in your ability, not just as a cricketer but also ability to read the game, to be able to change the way you play according to the situation. All of that comes into play, but those are things you become aware of the longer you play, the more experienced you become, when you really understand risk and reward, that no risk is impossible in cricket - every single ball carries a risk, whether you leave, defend, attack, it doesnt matter. So to be able to calculate that in a manner that brings the advantage to you is very important. The whole point is that youre an individual, a unique one. Understand how you work, then find your own method.

09.01.2022 Hi Boys Hope everyone doing well Unfortunately, We have to canceled our intitial training program with these unpredictable circumstances.... However, when things getting easier, we will post our new training schedule. Meantime, please stay touch and do your fitness work and mental stuff. 08.01.2022 A huge thank you to club legends Robert Mosca Moszkowicz and Dave Reilly on their huge effort to clean out the training shed today. It has become apparent that we have more fielding gear than any club in Australia. A huge effort from these two, and theyve set the standard for how the shed must look for the entire 2020/21 season. Well done lads.

07.01.2022 In what will be a crucial match for our premier team, our first grade took on our rivals from across the Eastern Freeway in Kew. After winning the toss, Kew had no qualms in having a stick on what is usually a very good batting wicket. Things were not looking optimistic for our boys after Kew quickly moved to 2/147 with former Hoe, David Wildsmith looking ominous on 40. However, after 57 years of senior cricket, our veteran coach Sunni has learned a thing or two. After persis...Continue reading

03.01.2022 MONDAY MATCH REPORT Not a great weekend for the Hoes, going zero from four from our weekend games. However, pleasingly, we also recorded zero from four outright defeats; I choose to live life in the light. Our firsts were unable to chase down Kews total, falling to be all out for 160. Not much to report from this game other than a bizarre dismissal by our new number 3, and team of the decade member, Alex Pannell, who was stumped off a medium pacer, seemingly forgetting that ...Continue reading
