We are experiencing a towel shortage at MVH so any donations are appreciated! Also a bit short on newspapers now the Sunny Daily isn’t coming in as much. 22.01.2022 ROAD SAFETY WEEK! Last week the Kinder children learnt about road safety. Each day we practiced crossing the roads around the centre and learnt how to cross roads safely. We also had 2 bike days where we invited the children to bring in their own bikes, scooters and helmets. The children loved riding around the car park, taking in turns of each others bikes and playing games. Some children learnt how to ride without training wheels.. it was very exciting!

22.01.2022 Dareton Primary Health Covid19 screening and testing drive through clinic will be operating from the Midway Centre, Midway Drive, Buronga at the following times...: Saturday and Sunday -10:00am - 2:00pm Weekdays 10:00am - 4:00pm. Anyone is welcomed to be screened for COVID-19 if they have been unwell and have any of the following common symptoms: Fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, aches and pains, headaches, runny nose. The person will be screened by a FWLHD staff member following an assessment and it is then decided if the patient will be tested. All patients are given information about COVID-19, hand hygiene and about self-isolation. People who do not have any symptoms will not be tested. If the patient requires testing, they will be swabbed by a staff member while they are seated in their car. The testing consists of a swab to the throat and one of the nostrils. They will be told to self-isolate until they have received the results. Results are normally back within 3-5 days. Where a patient receives a positive result, they will be contacted by the Public Health Unit (PHU). Where a patient returns a negative result they will be informed the test is negative via text message if they have consented to this. The clinic is ONLY for drive-through patients. Pedestrians will be directed to call the COVID-19 fever clinic located at Sunraysia Community Health 03 50217653. The FWLHD is very grateful for the support of Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation and Wentworth Shire, General Manager for their support . We urge everyone attending the clinic to be patient, drive slowly and carefully and obey directions.

Fundraiser information: Let’s get out and ...wear pink any day between the 19th to 25th of October! Minimum $10 entry fee and all money raised will go the Cancer Resource Centre for breast cancer patients. Walk as far or as long as you like but let’s make it fun! https://www.facebook.com/Sunraysia-breast-cancer-fundraiser-100444791811968/ On Friday 23rd October we will be having a PINK DAY dress up day. 07.01.2022 CHILD CARE / ELC INFO - Important message for those who have children enrolled in an early learning or child care centre. DONT UN-ENROL them to save money. The...res actually financial support you can receive... There is so much uncertainty in the world at the moment and so many people are losing their jobs, please dont add your childs educators to that list. Talk to your centre/educator first. There are a number of things in place from the government to help families and to stop child care services from going bankrupt but these measures are only helpful if the children STAY ENROLLED. Firstly, if you or your partner has lost their job or had your wages cut, you can go on to your MyGov page and apply for temporary financial hardship. This means that the government may pay your childcare fees in FULL for 13 weeks. The government has also committed to paying the CCS portion of the fees in the event that the services do go in to lock down. What this means for services is that we can keep paying our educators, our rent, etc etc etc. It means that at the end of all of this, there will be services (FDC services and centres) to send your children to. Speak to your Centre Director and Family Day Care Educator. Find out your options, BEFORE just pulling your children out.

03.01.2022 The Kinder room is very excited to announce that we are hatching some baby chickens! We have put 48 chicken eggs into the incubator with the hope of some success! Over the next 3 weeks we will be talking about different chicken eggs, making comparisons and learning about the cycle of hatching chickens. We look forward to sharing this journey with you all!

01.01.2022 Maths - to teach or to just play? Lots of practitioners in the Early Years often ask the questions How should I teach Maths? Should I teach a daily ...Maths lesson? Do I need to keep Maths evidence in books? There is no right answer to these questions. The truth is, Maths can be taught in a number of different ways. It really depends on the needs of your children and how they learn best. At Little Wonders, weve always believed that Maths concepts can most effectively be taught through play and with an exciting, stimulating environment. Teaching a Maths skill such as telling the time and then having a variety of clocks in different areas of your environment (including digital clocks, analogue clocks, stop watches) will then enable children to practise the skill that youve taught through their play. Children then consolidate this skill, practise it in different ways and can fully demonstrate their understanding. This way of teaching can be done with any area of Maths - time, money, shape, pattern, measure, number...the list goes on. If you can, try to create curiosity and wonder by inviting children to explore some unusual resources that they might not have seen before. This will provoke questions and encourage mathematical language. If the skill you are teaching is measure, have tape measures but also some large trundle wheels. If the skill you are teaching is money, show them a debit card as well as some old coins and currency from other countries. If youre currently homeschooling your little wonderer, look out for everyday Maths opportunities in your house. Heres a few ideas... Count the stairs, sort the cutlery drawer, go on a shape hunt, go on a number hunt, play with old phones, set timed challenges with a timer, sing number songs, play dominoes, weigh out ingredients when youre baking, order toys by size, set up a shop where you have to pay for daily snacks (a great way of limiting those little wonderers that are eating you out of house and home!). If youve done any great Maths learning at home or in your setting, please feel free to share ideas in the comments below!
