13.01.2022 Congratulations to Alison Binks for being shortlisted in the Bayside Acquisitive Art Award with her work ‘Smoke Over Kangaroo Island #1’ 2020 Oil on board 31 x 61cm As her Artist Statement describes, this painting is a depiction of the Australian landscape burning last Summer during the extraordinary fires that ravaged Kangaroo Island and so many other parts of the Australian continent at the start of 2020. Caught between enjoying a summer holiday on Kangaroo Island, as our ...family has done for decades, and absorbing the tragedy occurring beyond our view. Smoke filling the sky ebbed and flowed with the wind. No one knew what to say. I turned to painting. Finally the ash arrived and we decided to leave. Alison Binks 2020 As with so many events this year, the Bayside prize has been postponed until 2021 and so we now wait in eager anticipation on a date being set and Binks’ work being seen by all those that attend whatever form of function is planned.
