25.01.2022 This is the link to Asha Kiran Hospital - a small, private Charitable hospital about 90 minutes from us. It's clean, has loving, caring doctors, nurses, in fact all staff - Its been running almost 30 years and has Christian values and ethos. We have been able to bore a well in their clinic in the Bondo Hills as well as in a nearby village - and from there many children now attend our school. Please take the time to look at this clip and see some of the amazing staff and people they work with. https://www.youtube.com/watch

20.01.2022 An Indian friend posted this comment today - as India celebrates 70 years of independence: Note: 1 lakh is 100,000 people, so 84 lakh is 8,400,000 Seventy & GoingAt A Crossroads - Part III... We are celebrating the seventy years of our independence, and it is a joyous occasion. Rightly so, we should celebrate. We have made a lot of progress and a lot needs to be done. The stage that we are in, is like standing at a crossroads. 1 - Everyday about 3150 children die from preventable birth related issues. 2 - Over 82 lakh child labourers, aged between 5-14 years. 3 - Everyday 150 mothers die, due to preventable pregnancy-related causes. 4 - One in every third child bride of the world lives in India. 5 - Out of every 100 children, only 32 children finish their school education. 6 - There are 10,000,000 child labourers between 5-14 years in India. 7 - Every 8 minutes, a child goes missing in India. 8 - Around 8.5 lakh children are estimated to die before their first birthday each year. 9 - More than 4.5 lakh girls under 15 years of age who are married, with children of their own. One is constantly either progressing or declining. There is no stagnant position. The struggle between progress and decline is a permanent one. We should all sincerely hope that we will, as a nation will not only win this struggle, but also peg the decline permanently. It is very crucial and critical that WE ALL stand united, and focus ALL our energies, to fight the evils that are plaguing, so that ALL would do well. The poem of Robert Frost should be a good reminder to all of us, Woods are lovely dark and deep. But I have miles to go before I sleep. Miles to go before I sleep. May our nation progress well, so also us, as its children.

Grammar and wording may not be perfect but we are very proud of their efforts and have left it entirely untouched. A big thank you to CB who taught the children how to put a newsletter together in January 2017. Please enjoy and please share. www.jacobswell.org.au

14.01.2022 In 1990, the high school dropout rate for Dolly Parton's hometown of Sevierville Tennessee was at 34% (Research shows that most kids make up their minds in fift...h/sixth grade not to graduate). That year, all fifth and sixth graders from Sevierville were invited by Parton to attend an assembly at Dollywood. They were asked to pick a buddy, and if both students completed high school, Dolly Parton would personally hand them each a $500 check on their graduation day. As a result, the dropout rate for those classes fell to 6%, and has generally retained that average to this day. Shortly after the success of The Buddy Program, Parton learned in dealing with teachers from the school district that problems in education often begin during first grade when kids are at different developmental levels. That year The Dollywood Foundation paid the salaries for additional teachers assistants in every first grade class for the next 2 years, under the agreement that if the program worked, the school system would effectively adopt and fund the program after the trial period. During the same period, Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995: The idea being that children from her rural hometown and low-income families often start school at a disadvantage and as a result, will be unfairly compared to their peers for the rest of their lives, effectively encouraging them not to pursue higher education. The objective of the Imagination library was that every child in Sevier County would receive one book, every month, mailed and addressed to the child, from the day they were born until the day they started kindergarten, 100% free of charge. What began as a hometown initiative now serves children in all 50 states, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, mailing thousands of free books to children around the world monthly. On March 1, 2018 Parton donated her 100 millionth book at the Library of Congress: a copy of "Coat of Many Colors" dedicated to her father, who never learned to read or write. Happy 74th Birthday Dolly Parton!
