14.01.2022 A snatch for an email circulating the district: Hi K. Just a note wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas, a Joyous & Happy New Year & all the very best for 2020.... Also if you wouldnt mind, telling everyone in the Alberton Area, especially the eastern end of Rotary Park Road, to be on the lookout for thieves. They broke into our property last week, cutting locks, jemmying doors, they have stolen a blue & white fiberglass cabin cruiser with a mercury outboard motor on a trailer, they loaded camping gear, cloths, compressors, generators, aluminium ladders, stole security cameras & goodness knows what else into the boat, leaving some items where the boat was parked. Maybe they were disturbed by neighbors or the extra things just wouldnt fit into the boat. We hope they dont get into anyone elses property, hope everyone stays safe over the holiday season & 2020. Kindest Regards D. O.

09.01.2022 Under Council of the City of Gold Coast Local Law No.12 (Animal Management) 2013, owners are responsible for ensuring their animal(s) dont cause a noise nuisance. A noise nuisance is a noise that disrupts or inhibits an activity ordinarily carried out. Many people keep animals for companionship however, noisy animals may greatly reduce the quality of life for neighbours and increase neighbourhood tensions. Rowdy Roosters... The rooster is often portrayed as crowing at the break of dawn (cock-a-doodle-doo) and will almost always start crowing before four months of age. He can often be seen sitting on fence posts or other objects, where he crows to proclaim his territory. However, this idea is more romantic than real, as a rooster can and will crow at any time of the day. Some roosters are especially vociferous, crowing almost constantly, while others only crow a few times a day. These differences are dependent both upon the roosters breed and individual personality. Roosters crow as a territorial signal to other roosters. However, crowing may also result from sudden disturbances within their surroundings. If theres one thing roosters are famous for, its their loud cock-a-doodle-doo wake-up call every morning. This alarm clock can get too loud and come too early for rooster owners and their neighbours. Luckily, there are a few steps you can take to discourage your rooster from crowing. Caponising, or neutering, may solve the problem, however, instead of resorting to such a drastic method, you may simply be able to ensure the rooster is kept in a coop overnight. Cover your roosters cage with heavy material at night to prevent the entry of light. Place a heavy blanket or cardboard sheets over your roosters cage to darken it. This will block the entry of light and discourage your rooster from crowing in the early hours of the morning. Remove the heavy material from your roosters cage at a time that you are comfortable with it crowing. Provide the rooster with less headspace in its cage at night or reduce the height of the cage by lowering the roof or by raising your roosters perch. Ensure that the rooster can comfortably stand in the cage, but not stretch its body. Roosters cannot crow in a low-roofed cage, as they need to stretch their entire body, especially the neck, while crowing. Keep roosters occupied so they have less time to get bored and crow. Provide treats that take time and effort to find and eat. Offer roosters corn on the cob, or hide food scraps such as lettuce under the straw or in baskets above the perch. Decrease the number of roosters in your coop. Keeping more than one rooster encourages competition among them, which results in an increase in crowing. Please think of your neighbours no one enjoys a broken sleep.

06.01.2022 History of Anzac Day in Australia In 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula. The plan was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), capital of the Ottoman Empire and an ally of the Germans. They landed at Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Turkish defenders. The assault rapidly became a stalemate, dragging on for 8 months. By the end of 1915 the allied forces were eva...cuated after both sides had suffered heavy casualties. Over 8,000 Australian soldiers were killed. News of the landing at Gallipoli made a profound impact on Australians back at home and 25th April became the day on which Australians remembered the sacrifice of those who had died in war. The date, was officially named Anzac Day in 1916 and was marked at the time by range of ceremonies and services held throughout Australia. For the rest of the war, Anzac Day was marked by patriotic rallies and recruiting campaigns. During the twenties, Anzac Day became established as a national day of commemoration for the Australians who died during the great war. 1927 was the first year in which all the States observed a public holiday together on Anzac Day. With the advent of World War II, Anzac Day became a day on which to commemorate the lives of Australians lost in that conflict as well. In recent years the day has been further broadened to remember Australians killed in all military operations in which Australia has been involved. lets support our Military, past and those protecting our shores and freedom, and attend the ANZAC Day Service Hosted by Woongoolba Bowls Club. 5am start
