16.01.2022 Just a nice everyday shoeing on a cuttin horse. I have given him a little extra width and length on the hinds for support when working in the sand and concaves in front. Owner Peter Murray, Muswellbrook.

13.01.2022 WISH they were all like this gentleman from Mindaribba near Maitland, well educated to allow a farrier to handle his feet and legs and with nice big round and symmetrical hooves it just comes up a nice job every time ! Pics of a recent reset. Thanks Kathryn.

11.01.2022 Advanced case of white line disease (seedy toe) - one of the more challenging cases I have handled. When asked to look at this horse he was shod all round, was a grade 3 of 5 lame in affected foot and had an x-ray showing a significant cavity between the outer wall and pedal bone around the front of the hoof. The pedal bone had lost most of its support from the wall allowing it to rotate down and push into the nerves and blood vessels in the sole hence a very lame horse. Afte...r removing the diseased/hollow hoof and cleaning back to healthy white line I was able to fabricate and fit a heart bar and T-piece shoe to support the weight until the wall grows back down. This will need regular treatment with copper sulphate paste and take about 10 months. I have seen cases where the only option was to place the entire hoof in a plaster cast to stabilise the column of leg bones. White line disease can be a huge problem so its best treated early on instead of just nailing on a plain shoe and hope it goes away. See more

06.01.2022 HOLLY - a success story in full rockers. Holly is a 20 yr old QH mare with front hooves that, with age and possibly stretching of ligaments, run forward instead of growing down. If left unchecked this puts excess pressure on tendons, ligaments and the navicular apparatus and causes her significant lameness issues. After getting radiographs (xrays) and veterinary input I have been shoeing this mare in full rockers for probably 2 yrs now and she goes very well in them. Although... the hoof wall has not come back to parallel the pastern angle the start of breakover is mechanically well back under the toe making it very easy for her to walk trot& canter. She is used for trail riding and light work and highly valued as a safe and reliable mount . The shoes may appear excessively full in the heels however this is only where the foot should be and she has never pulled or lost one of these. See more
