After all, we know how much everyone loves extra taxes Put ...simply, Stamp Duty is a tax on legal documents; usually revenue collected by states on large-scale transactions such as insurances policies, motor vehicles, documented gifts, and large-scale hire of goods. In our case, it applies to sale of both Real Estate and mortgages. The amount you pay varies depending on both the value of the property you're buying and the state you're buying it in.
