24.01.2022 Good luck to year 12s on their final day of exams! Your hard work is almost done and soon you'll be able to get some well-earned rest and celebrate your achievements.

24.01.2022 Inclusion and a sense of belonging within a community are fundamental to living a rewarding life. I was pleased to represent Minister David Templeman MLA this morning at a Social Inclusion Forum hosted by Inclusion Solutions to give community organisations & public sector advice on creating a more inclusive community. #socialinclusionmatters

24.01.2022 Do you know a community group in the City of Stirling that could benefit from this? Stirling has grants for community groups that can build community spirit during the pandemic. The grants are aimed at invigorating localised community capacity building programs and/or providing activation of the four Community Hub locations as well as local community centres. Edit: City of Wanneroo have similar grants. https://www.stirling.wa.gov.au//grants-a/community-grants

24.01.2022 The McGowan Government is committed to keeping families safe from domestic violence, which is why we are launching a support hub right here in Mirrabooka before the end of this year. The one-stop hub will make it easier for women and children to get help sooner in a safe space within their own community and have all the necessary supports under one roof so victims don't have to experience the trauma of re-telling their story to multiple services.

23.01.2022 Happy Janmashtami! To all of those celebrating this holy occasion, I wish you a happy and blessed Janmashtami. #KrishnaJanmashtami2020 #janmashtami #janmashtami2020

23.01.2022 Thank you to Idris from The House Caffe in the Alexander Heights Shopping Centre, for welcoming Margaret Quirk MLA and myself for a lovely cup of coffee today. This year's been hard for small business. As Christmas approaches, it's important we all do our best to support local family-owned businesses like The House Caffe.

23.01.2022 Attention Dianella residents: join me at a Street Corner Meeting this Friday from 4.30pm at Dechaineux Reserve. I'll be at the Reserve until 5.30pm so come down for a chat about your local area and any issues that matter to you.

23.01.2022 Celebrating 30 years of St Andrews Grammar with Hon Bob Pearce, who was the Labor Education Minister that made it happen. Loved the fireworks although it was disconcerting being in front of them .

21.01.2022 The McGowan Government's strong financial management has enabled record investment in community safety. The State Budget handed down today includes $314 million to recruit 800 extra police officers, so we can continue to manage COVID-19 safely and provide a stronger and more visible presence on our streets. We're also making sure our police officers have the best technology available to do their jobs, including body cameras, personal mobile devices, automatic numberplate reco...gnition, and protective vests. Read more about this and other State Budget announcements at https://www.ourstatebudget.wa.gov.au/

21.01.2022 Seniors morning tea with Margaret Quirk Thank you to all the hospitality students for the excellent services and catering. Side note, have you heard of laughing yoga? I have been doing yoga for a while now and today it was the first time I tried laughing yoga, it was fun!

20.01.2022 North Balga Primary School students know that art is AWESOME! 2 artists from Awesome Arts (the team behind the AWESOME Festival) are currently completing a 20 day residency at the school & working with students as part of a Creative Challenge Program. The mural they're working on is coming along nicely! I also loved last year's art hanging up at the school.

20.01.2022 This week is child protection week. I recently asked a question in Parliament about the important contribution of staff, carers and the community make in keeping children safe. It isn't easy work, and the McGowan government is increasing the number of staff and providing almost $100 million additional funding to keep children and families safe.

20.01.2022 Today is the start of Dementia Action Week 2020. Almost a half a million Australians are affected by dementia. 17.01.2022 WA Labor Government's $21 million Electric Vehicle Strategy will enable EV users to drive the length of the State. Supporting sustainable transport options is a no brainer to cut emissions, reduce pollution and create local WA jobs.

16.01.2022 We are moving to a controlled interstate border from 14 November based on the latest health advice. Hear from Premier Mark McGowan about this change.

15.01.2022 E-Waste Grants - applications now open This year has shown us the importance of technology, which allows us to learn and work remotely. Given the increasing reliance on our devices, it's not surprising that e-waste is also on the rise. I've been strongly advocating for improving the way we deal with e-waste. Just this year I've worked with local community organisations, recycling businesses and local schools to explore how we can better use our e-waste and stop it going... to landfill. That's why I'm pleased the McGowan Government has launched a new WasteSorted E-Waste Grants program, which makes grants of up to $200,000 available to projects and innovations that reduce e-waste. Applications for the grants are now open and close on November 16 - see link in the comments for more information.

15.01.2022 Operation Heat Shield is back after significant success in the summer of 2019/20, delivering increased police patrols where they're needed most. The Operation will ensure greater police presence, targeting burglary, theft and family violence, to address the usual rise criminal activity that comes with more people being out and about in the warmer months.

15.01.2022 It was an absolute joy to read to the Warriapendi Primary School students for their Book Week This year's theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds, showing how reading encourages us to be curious learners. Thank you for inviting me to celebrate our love for reading! #CBCA2020

15.01.2022 If you haven't yet, check out Jade Dolman's impressive mural at The Square Mirrabooka (Chesterfield Rd entrance). It features native flowers which bloom in the Makuru season (June-July) and are used as food and medicine in Noongar tradition. The six Noongar seasons are: Birak, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba (which we're currently in) and Kambarang.

14.01.2022 Recently we marked Equal Pay Day 2020. It is incredible that we still have an unacceptable and shameful pay equity gap of 22% in Western Australia - the highest in the country. We must do whatever we can to address the gender pay disparity, and introducing pay equity principles into the Industrial Relations law is one of the ways to do that. I've been passionate about this issue for a long time and I am proud to be a part of the McGowan Governments efforts to address the pa...y equity gap. #EqualPayDay #payequity #KeepMindingTheGap

14.01.2022 In an emergency situation it is very important that residents are able to act quickly and with confidence that they will get the necessary support for their animals. The McGowan Government is boosting animal welfare preparedness in emergencies across Stirling with funding through the Animal Welfare in Emergencies Grant. The funding will help ensure there is appropriate equipment used to house and look after animals in the event of an evacuation and there are appropriate emer...gency animal welfare plans in place. This includes protecting both our much loved companion animals as well as livestock from our local farms.

14.01.2022 Happy Annual Dogs in Politics Day Here's a photo of my furry best friend Bella and I in action. I'd like to take a moment and thank her for always being by my side, even if it includes tagging along to work. #DogsInPoliticsDay

13.01.2022 Book Week is one of my favourite times of the year. The official dates this year have been postponed to October due to the impact of COVID-19. We're fortunate in WA that schools are able to operate normally and some of our local schools have already been holding their Book Week celebrations. I recently had fun dressing up with William and Eltoma at Burbridge School and yesterday I read to some very attentive Year 6s at John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School about the 1967 Referendum. Meanwhile, Kindy Blue students at Warriapendi Primary School sent me some lovely thank-you cards after I read them a story.

13.01.2022 Today I met with Premier Mark McGowan to inform him it is not my intention to contest the March 2021 election for the seat of Mirrabooka. Thank you to the people of our area and supporters for working with me over the last 12 years as the Local MP. Please see my full media statement in the comments section below.

11.01.2022 As a keen concert-goer and proud mum of a young musician, I recognise and appreciate the importance of the music and arts industry in WA. I especially love the atmosphere of big live events, which understandably took a hit this year due to COVID-19. This week in Parliament I called for improving our capacity to hold larger events so we can support this important industry, given the successful response to COVID in WA. That's why I'm pleased the Government has today introduced ...COVID Event Guidelines and Plans to enable us to hold events of more than 500 people. With these rules in place we can be confident holding larger events as we head into warmer months, supporting the arts industry while keeping our community safe. More information about COVID Event Plans is available at www.wa.gov.au//document-collec/covid-19-coronavirus-events

Providing relief to all WA households is an important part of our jobs and recovery plan.

By buying a book you'll be directly supporting Starick Services, who provide shelter and support to women and children fleeing from domestic abuse.

07.01.2022 Today is THANK your school traffic warden day. I would like to THANK all the school traffic wardens across Mirrabooka for doing an amazing job keeping school kids safe.

07.01.2022 On Wednesday we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Warriapendi Primary School. I caught up with Lyn Smith, a long time Balga resident and volunteer on my campaigns. I started school 49 years ago, and so I recognised the exhibits from the past. I always wanted the ponytail shoes with the animal track soles and inbuilt compass, but at $5.99 they were too expensive! Outrageous fact about Wirriapendi - When they opened the school it was only bush and demountables. No toilet. They asked the kids to go before they arrived in the morning. We've come a long way.

06.01.2022 The McGowan Government is investing over $40 million to grow our local food industries. This will help our COVID-19 recovery, create local jobs, and improve our State's ability to manufacture and process food right here in WA.

05.01.2022 Last week I spoke in Parliament about banning wheelclamping. Wheelclamping is intimidating, predatory and unfair. It penalises the person much more than the damage done to the business.

05.01.2022 Update on the $32 million Balga TAFE upgrade HASSELL architecture studio has been chosen to design a new multistorey training facility to replace 22 old transportable buildings at the North Metropolitan TAFE Balga campus. This major upgrade will create jobs and provide a world-class learning environment to TAFE students. I'm excited to see this job-boosting investment take shape in our local area.

04.01.2022 We're cracking down on copper theft, which has been a problem within our community. Thieves have been stealing copper from wires in homes, power stations and even memorial plaques. As I've pointed out in Parliament before, there's currently no requirement to record sales of copper, making it ideal for criminals to steal and profit from.... That's why I'm pleased we are taking action against copper theft. Under the Government's proposed changes sellers of copper will be required to produce identification and licenced dealers in copper will be required to record all transactions and report details to police. This is how we are keeping our community safe.

04.01.2022 The longest Book "Week" in history continues (Book Week having been delayed due to COVID-19) - thanks St. Andrew's Grammar, WA for having me!

We consulted with Aboriginal people, industry and stakeholders across WA for over 2 years to produce the draft Bill. If you'd like to add your voice, visit www.dplh.wa.gov.au/aha-review

02.01.2022 Pleasure meeting Sarah Quinton and Taryn Harvey from the Western Australian Association for Mental Health yesterday to hear about improving support models & solutions for mental health services in WA. By increasing early intervention and community support we can reduce the need for hospitalisation, better manage our healthcare resources, and get better outcomes for Western Australians who are experiencing mental health challenges. #PreventSupportHeal

01.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all dads and father figures. My family is not big on celebrating Father's Day because you should appreciate your Dad every day.
