24.01.2022 What if you could live your life AS YOU ARE RIGHT NOW... . and by just BEING, you give people the power and permission to be more accepting of themselves? Pretty incredible right?... Instead of seeing our flaws as something to be shameful of and missing out on countless opportunities because of it, you could embrace and appreciate everything you are...AND celebrate that with and within others. Diet culture will tell you, once you look like an ‘after’ pic - that’s when your life will begin that’s when everything will fall into place that’s when you’ll be better- you’ll be enough. But have you ever considered just how much harm those ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics can cause? If no, you NEED to consider this: Before and after photos can: Demean those who look like your ‘before’ They devalue your past self They bring shame if (or more likely, when) you gain weight They reduce you to 2 snapshots, one supposedly better than the other yet they tell nothing of your story, what you’ve truly lost. Plus waiting to look like an ‘after’ pic is a Waste. Of. Your. Precious. Time. So instead of putting your life on hold until you reach that goal weight, size and shape how can you show up and LIVE as your best self today? Starting small is okay Maybe it’s by thanking your body for all it does for you instead of wishing for it to change. Maybe it’s giving yourself permission to be self compassionate and honouring your body with food that FEELS good to you. 18.01.2022 Imagine if we treated the urge to pee the same as we treat hunger? I love pointing out this comparison with my clients- it really puts things into perspective doesn’t it? I find it so crazy that we treat hunger like a sign that our body is not working and look for ways to suppress it....... When in reality HUNGER IS A BLESSING! Hunger keeps us alive. Without it, we wouldn’t have the drive to go eat and well... we’d be dead. Yet we’re so quick to judge and vilify this primal drive...blaming our ‘insatiable hunger’ as the problem and inevitably getting frustrated and annoyed with ourselves when we don’t have enough willpower to stand against it.... Sister, your appetite is NOT the problem. But thinking it is, is where you get tripped up! (thanks Diet Culture) So what’s the solution? Stop the judgement Get curious Be grateful Trust your body Start experimenting Honour your biological cues Easy said than done for a lot of people, particularly if you’ve been trying to override your hunger for some time. But it’s not impossible! This is just one of the many steps I help my amazing clients with in the journey to embracing what it means to be an intuitive eater. But when it comes to business, success is 80% psychology and 20% strategy.... This is the magic formula for business growth. 17.01.2022 Hey Hey! I’m officially back in action and have some HUGE announcements to share. The last couple of months have been incredible. ... I’ve taken some huge leaps in my business and created my signature 1-1 coaching (Complete Nutrition Solution) which has been absolutely life-changing for my clients Everyday, I wake up feeling so grateful for the beautiful women I get to work with and the fact that I’m able to play a big role in facilitating their journey’s for living their healthiest and happiest life. 15.01.2022 I’m not on a diet, I’m just trying to be good No thanks, I won’t have a slice of cake, I’m trying to be good today I ate soooo much junk yesterday I just really need to focus on being good today... .... If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say this, I’d be living in the Maldives, sipping mojitos and swimming with dolphins everyday like a mermaid. I know you mind think saying these things is harmless, healthy even! But the truth is, you’re setting yourself up for failure and you don’t even realise it. Because when we have these thoughts, we’re in a dieting mindset. Diet mindset creates a food list of ‘shoulds’ and ‘shouldn’t’s’ This leads to feelings of restriction and deprivation. And before you know it, by the end of the day or week, we say STUFF IT and end up binging on everything in sight that we deemed ‘off limits’, feeling so damn guilty and disappointed in ourselves for not being strong enough So instead of trying to BE good. Ask yourself: What’s going to FEEL good to me? When we try to FEEL good, we come from a place of self CARE, not self CONTROL Just think about it, what would you do differently if you were focusing on FEELING good? Would you make the same choices? Can you noticed the difference of the tone of that voice in your head? How does that make you feel? Which feels easier, more liberating, and maintainable? So friends, pleaseeeeee dItch ‘trying to BE good’. You already are good. You are inherently good enough and nothing can ever change that about you. 15.01.2022 Giving yourself permission to eat all food doesn’t mean eating all the food. But I completely understand your fear that allowing yourself this kind of unconditional permission to eat food will lead to spiralling out of control, eating everything in sight. Let me ease your worry right now though...this won’t happen... How do I know this? Because I’m fortunate enough to help women like you, all over the world, heal their relationships with food and put an end to the food guilt, stress and restrictions once and for all and showing them how to give themselves TRUE permission to eat all food is just a small part of it. And what I’ve seen as a result of my clients practising this food freedom is: Realising they don’t actually enjoy certain food they once thought was addictive and special. Going to buffets and an amount of food that feels good for them (not because a sign says to come here ‘for all you can eat’) Turning down fast food to priortise time to cook at home and bond as a couple Feeling like food doesn’t control them anymore- just because it’s there doesn’t mean they have to eat it. Effotlessly wanting to eat foods that nourish them, rather than battling with themselves over have they ‘should/shouldn’t’ eat this. Not stressing out about what they should eat when they go out with firends. More brain power to focus on improving in their work, their families, taking up new hobbies, opening up to friends. Many of them started with having this same fear of losing all control and eating all the ‘bad’ food before they started working with me. Now they eat according to what feels good for them, what they enjoy, what satisfies them, what honours their body, and respects their health. You CAN have this too. 14.01.2022 The BIGGEST mistake you’re making when trying to stop binging (or emotionally eating). Let’s set the scene shall we? Tell me if this sounds familiar! ... You’ve tried so hard to be good all day with your food choices. You’ve done everything right and are feeling in control and on track. And then you get home from a long day at work, you’re exhausted, stressed, unsettled and starving. Before you know it you’ve mindlessly smashed half a block of chocolate, heaps of crackers, cheese and dip and then some more chocolate. You think: Stuff it I’ve ruined everything, I might as well keeping eating now. Why am I like this?!?, I’m so weak and disgusting, I’ve failed again... I need to be better tomorrow, I need to control myself But is this actually fixing the problem? Is it a healthy way to think? Diet culture would say yes. I say no. Here’s why: Often, the root of all numbing out and compulsive behaviours (including binging and even some emotional eating experiences) is a disconnection from self So if we focus our energy and berate ourselves so much on the end result/physical behaviour (eg. binging), we’re completely tuning out of ourselves and what we actually NEED. This ultimately disempowers us, keeping us trapped in the dieting cycle feeling like we’re never good enough. I know trying to get curious and connect with what you’re feeling can seem pretty scary and uncomfortable for some. That’s okay. You don’t need to have all the answers right now. This is something I help my clients with in CNS (more availability for 1:1 coaching coming soon - waitlist link in bio). For today though, what I want you to do is to practise bringing awareness to your language and thoughts around 1your food choices and 2your eating behaviours and notice how those thoughts make you feel. 13.01.2022 Let's be honest. You gained some weight since the start of COVID19. Your clothes aren’t fitting as nicely and comfortably as they were. ... And even though you’re telling yourself, it’s fine! No one cares, I’m stuck inside so no one can see me anyway I know you care. You’re pinching and poking your belly and thighs in the mirror, feeling frustrated and annoyed with yourself for bingeing on chips, wine and chocolate...and it’s only been a few weeks since lockdown?! You’re feeling sluggish, guilty, unattractive, in a low mood and feeling like a fraud in the back of your mind whilst you’re telling your audience and clients to ‘take care of themselves’ and ‘get your healthy habits in order!’ Yet here you are fearing you’re going to end up 10kg heavier by the time this is over if you keep going this way! 13.01.2022 How would you feel if you could trust your body to tell you how much to eat? Pretty liberating right? No more WASTING TIME, ENERGY AND BRAIN POWER on scales, measuring cups, portion control containers, tracking apps or counting individual nuts, chips, (insert any food here)...... You could simply just take what you need, move on, and know you have full permission to go back for more if you wanted too! This is what I teach my clients how to do because life is way too short to be feeling like we can’t trust ourselves around food, right?! One of my clients, Nat (not real name), used to weigh her food all the time before we started working together. She found it helpful for a while, like she was in control of her eating habits.. Until it started to become so draining, restrictive and a bit obsessive. She knew this (once perceived) ‘healthy’ habit was now weighing her down and she longed to feel like she could just TRUST HERSELF around food WITHOUT feeling like she ‘SHOULD’ be tracking all her food all the time. You might be feeling a sense of ambition and gratitude, or you may be experiencing overwhelm and anxiety.. Maybe you are feeling spent and drained and we’re only mid-way through Jan. ... Wherever you are, know that your story and emotions are valid. Remember that your body and mind are worthy of your care, today and every day. Extending kindness towards and honouring yourself is not selfish; rather, it allows you to be more fully present with and for others when you choose to be. What would it look like to honor yourself more deeply? Sometimes it can be as simple as REFRAMING our thoughts and getting curious about how that makes us feel. This doesn’t mean simply saying the opposite to what you feel. That’s not real or helpful. But as we shift our thinking about a situation, there is a change in emotional tone and the meaning that we give to our life circumstances. We can choose to move our experience from a negative frame to a more hopeful one, filled with opportunities. This process allows us an expanded view of our reality. The first step to honoring yourself is to tune inward, listening for what it is you need in this moment and getting curious about what this means. This same principle applies when I teach my clients to become intuitive eaters. Orthorexia is a condition where an individual is driven to eat in a way they see as perfect or pure, often involving strict and inflexible eating behaviours. It can start out as a true intention to eat healthy foods but over time, an obsession starts to develop around eating as healthily as possible.... This may look like striving for a perfectly ‘clean’ diet, shunning all food they have not made themselves, cutting out food groups, or only eating specific foods in the belief they are superior. There can also be psychological distress when they cannot fulfil their set diet rules. While orthorexia is yet to be officially recognised as an eating disorder, health professionals are recognising that it has its place in the eating disorder spectrum. SIGNS OF ORTHOREXIA: The Bratman Test for Orthorexia is a 10-question checklist. If you answer yes to four or more of the questions, you may benefit from seeking support around your eating behaviours. 1. Do you spend more than three hours a day thinking about your diet? 2. Do you plan your meals several days ahead? 3. Is the nutritional value of your meal more important than the pleasure of eating it? 4. Has the quality of your life decreased as the quality of your diet has increased? 5. Have you become stricter with yourself lately? 6. Does your self-esteem get a boost from eating healthily? 7. Have you given up foods you used to enjoy in order to eat the ‘right’ foods 8. Does your diet make it difficult for you to eat out, distancing you from family and friends? 9. Do you feel guilty when you stray from your diet? 10. Do you feel at peace with yourself and in total control when you eat healthily? 08.01.2022 The problem with seeing food as ONLY fuel Messages from diet culture tell us to see food as fuel and that in order to do right by our health, we should only be making food choices based on clean eating. ... This means: Only eating when hungry Never having ‘unhealthy’ foods Seeing some foods and good and some as off limits. On the surface you may think that by having a ‘food is only fuel’ mentality makes sense, makes it easy to stay ‘on track’ - you just focus on what’s going to be most nutritious to fuel you. But there’s 1 HUGE reason as to why this ‘food as fuel only’ mentality will backfire and you’ll end up exactly where you started. YOU ARE A HUMAN. NOT A ROBOT. This means You have emotions and use food to celebrate, soothe, remember and process feelings. You give, share, bond and over food because you have an evolutionary need to connect and belong. You are imperfect, flawed, complex, flexible.Beautiful. Fueling your body includes nourishing your soul. And having this balance may be easier to achieve than you realise!
