15.01.2022 Meditation Changed My Life. Around the age of 21 I made a conscious choice to do whatever I could to pull my self out of a deep depression and into a happy / positive state of mind Through a few google searches I can across meditation. This claimed to calm the mind, and realised I had nothing to lose by giving it a go. I also knew that my hectic mind was the cause of all of this.... I then downloaded some guided meditations from the meditation society of Australia. The instructor told me to light a candle and put it in the middle of a pitch black room. I then sat in front of the candle and commenced the meditation. The voice of the instructor was calm and cool, he first got me breathing deeply then told me to focus all of my attention on the flame of the candle. Next thing I heard was ‘welcome to episode 5 of the meditation series’ I looked down and realised that I had drifted off and woken back up. But there was something different about how I felt. It was like the tension had been taken out of my chest, and the weight of the world was off my shoulders. I actually felt good and relaxed, for the first time in a very long time! After a little research I figured I had gone into what they call a ‘meditative sleep’. Its basically where your goto to sleep, but you don’t think or dream at all. That space around thinking had reset my mind and it was great. 08.01.2022 One Thought Changed My Life I remember being 20 year old, lost at what I really wanted to do in life working in construction, and hating it.. I had also just quit my Aviation degree because I felt that I was never going to truely love being a pilot. The job didn’t allow my mind to be as creative as it needs to be to stay interested. ... These realities lead my mind to chaos and non-stop thinking about what I should do with my life. I was also judging myself for quitting even though deep down I knew that there must be something better for me to work towards. This lead to a real depression for me, a dark time. At the end of that year I remember waking up with a heavy, sinking feeling in my chest and could barely sum up the motivation to get out of bed. I asked myself the question, why do I feel so bad? Luckily my logic kicked in and I realised that I really shouldn’t be feeling this, because I had a family, great friends, food on the table and a roof over my head. So what was the problem? It wasn’t external, meaning the issue was internal and in my head. I then promised myself that no matter what, from that point forward I would make my #1 goal In life to find happiness and never let it go. 06.01.2022 I remember getting a phone call from @denisthomas84 over 12 years ago asking me if I wanted to play my first gig. I paused for a second, felt my heart race and replied back with 'sounds great, when is the date?! At this point I had only been DJing for 6 months at home and on a livestream radio channel called Boost Fm which is where Denis and I met. We shared a love for deep, and tech house which at that point in time was unheard of in the realms of commercial dance music. I ...was locked in to play from 10 - 11pm at the event named El Loco and felt an overweening sense of excitement and anxiety when I was about to jump on. I couldn't help thinking 'what if I train wreck every mix, and get booed off stage'... Thoughts aside I got up there and played the first track after some words of encouragement from @heidiaspinall @brentc21 Once I got up and mixed that very first track it was like all my doubts were washed away which helped me settled into a groove. About half way through the set a group of Irish lads loved one of the tracks and started clapping to the beat and chanting like they were at a European soccer match Next thing I knew I had my first dance floor, and people dancing on the tables. It got wild! I had no idea what was happening or how it was happening and I absolutely loved it. This went for about 20mins, but when @belwoody89 came over to say hello she hit the pause button on the decks... The club went completely silent, I realised the pause button was hit I quickly hit play again. No one seemed to mind and I finished up shortly after!
