25.01.2022 WHAT IS SERVICE? Service is giving to others and wanting to make a difference in their lives. It is looking for ways to be helpful instead of waiting to be asked. The needs of others are as important to you as your own. When you work with a spirit of service, you give any job your best effort. You make a real contribution. People who want to be of service can change the world. An attitude of service makes us constantly aware of the needs and yearnings of others. We instinctiv...ely respond to those needs and desires just as we instinctively respond to our own. Often the most powerful forms of leadership is that of the servant- leader, who rather than promoting self seeks to nurture and empower others, modeling humility along with vision and clarity of purpose. One of the most important questions in life is what and who we serve. This question is at the very heart of our life’s purpose. WHY PRACTICE IT? Without service, no one would be there to help when someone needed help unless they were going to be paid or had some selfish motive. With an attitude of service, we do our work with heart. People fee our compassion. When we are being of service, we accomplish everything that has to be done without anyone having to ask. We give our best. See more

23.01.2022 WHAT IS RESPECT? Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy. When we are respectful we treat others as we want to be treated. Respect includes honoring the rules of our family, school, work and other organizations we belong to, which make life more orderly and peaceful. It is knowing that every man, woman and child deserves respect, including you. R...espect is honoring the worth or dignity in a person or process. When we respect others, we take their preferences and ideas seriously. We thoughtfully weigh our own insights and experiences against theirs. Respect is merited particularly by those who are our elders, because knowledge, insight and wisdom often are hard won through a lifetime of discipline and learning. Cultivating respect as a virtue does not mean insisting that all ideas, beliefs, or actions are respect-worthy. It does mean that we recognize the basic human dignity of others, even when their ideas or values are different than our own. A general attitude of respect also assumes that each person has something to teach us if we are willing to learn. WHY PRACTICE IT? Without respect for rules, we would have confusion. People would treat other rudely and violate each other's privacy and other rights. Respect helps people feel valued. Elders deserve special respect because they have lived longer and learned many of life's lessons. Self-respect is making sure no one hurts you or abuses you, even an elder. When you respect yourself, others respect you, too. See more

19.01.2022 Sukhasana EASY CROSSED LEGS Following the Knoff Yoga System of Asana Sequencing, we have completed the Forward Bends and now start on the Sitting Poses. The first of the three Sitting Poses in the Discovery asana syllabus is Easy Crossed Legs (Sukhasana). Just a word of caution, Easy Crossed Legs is not really that easy. It is used at an early stage in practice, as it is more accessible than some of the other sitting poses, e.g. Hero, Sage, Half Lotus, Full Lotus, etc. Thes...Continue reading

19.01.2022 Virasana - HERO POSE Hero Pose (Virasana) is one of the four classical sitting postures in yoga. Sage Pose (Siddhasana), Bound Angle Pose (Baddha Konasana), and Lotus (Padmasana) are the other three. What these four Sitting Poses have in common is a stable base in the hips and anchored by folded legs. When sitting the hips are kept in a neutral position, exactly the same as when standing in Mountain Pose (Tadasana). The Latin word for pelvis translates to ‘basin’. Think of ...Continue reading

14.01.2022 WHAT IS RELIABILITY? Reliability means that others can depend on you to keep your commitments. Reliability is doing something that you have agreed to do in a predictable way, without forgetting or having to be reminded. When you practice reliability, you really care about doing what you said you would do. Other people can relax knowing it is in your reliable hands. Reliability means following through on our commitments, doing what we say we will do. When we are reliable, othe...rs can count on us, and we can count on ourselves. Reliability is one of the foundations of teamwork or cooperation. It allows people to work together, with each person doing what he or she does best, knowing that friends, family, or co-workers are taking care of other tasks. In a community, reliability supports individual growth and discovery. It allows us to take risks, knowing that others will be there if we fall. WHY PRACTICE IT? When people are unreliable, others can’t trust them to keep their promises. If airplanes, trains or buses are late, passengers can miss important appointments. If someone keeps forgetting to do what they said they would do, they let people down. When you are reliable, people can trust you to show up on time, be where you promised to be, to put tools away, to get the job done.

04.01.2022 One of the focuses this week at JB Yoga is 'Sun Salutations' here are 12 Good Reasons for doing these energising sequences as a Warm-Up 1. To increase the decomposition of oxyhemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying molecule in the blood. When oxyhemoglobin decomposes, the O2 (oxygen molecule) set free is more available to the exercising muscle. 2. To increase the body’s temperature, thus reducing the risks for injuries to the otherwise cold skeletal muscles and connective tissue. If ...we stress joints and muscles that are cold because there is no flow of warm blood through them, then small muscle tears and muscle spasms will be the result. 3. To increase blood flow to the muscles to be exercised, thereby bringing glucose and fatty acids where they are needed for exercise. The elasticity of muscle, tendon and ligament depends upon the level of blood saturation; cold muscles have a low blood saturation level. 4. To increase the flow of blood to the heart, thus reducing the risks of exercise-induced cardiac abnormalities. 5. To decrease the viscosity of the muscles, thereby making their actions more efficient and powerful. Without the warmth of flowing blood, the elasticity of the connective tissue will be inhibited. Warming up shifts the tension from the muscle attachments to the belly of the muscle. 6. To promote early sweating so as to cool the body before heavier exercise. 7. To increase the speed of nerve impulses so that neuromuscular coordination improves. 8. To increase the blood saturation of the muscles, thus making them warmer and more elastic for stretching. 9. To bring the cardiovascular system up to speed for the tasks that are to come. 10. To ease into more strenuous work so that muscle soreness is minimised. 11. To increase lubrication of the joints prior to moving them to the limits of the range of motion. 12. To enhance the activity of the muscle enzymes. See more

02.01.2022 WHAT IS PURPOSEFULNESS / INTENTION? Being purposeful is having a clear focus, instead of being confused or unsure of what you are doing or why you are doing it. You are acting purposefully when you have a goal you are working toward. You concentrate your mind and your efforts so that something good will happen as a result. Some people just let things happen. A purposeful person makes things happen. Intention is an awareness of purpose that guides our words and actions. When w...e are intentional, we use our time and other resources thoughtfully. Since we have limited energy, money and power, we treat these as precious gifts, not to be squandered carelessly but to be spent in ways that bring healing and happiness into the world. We direct our energy toward the things that mean the most to us and those we serve. Intention is living day-to-day, even moment-to-moment, with a sense of choice and purpose. It means being continuously conscious of how the present moment relates to our values and goals--and where there are the greatest opportunities to cultivate love, beauty and delight. WHY PRACTICE IT? Without a sense of purpose, people scatter their energies and their attention. Without knowing why they are doing something the purpose they easily give up. When you choose to be purposeful, you can achieve great results. Motivation comes easily because you know why you are doing something. You have a positive attitude and don’t let obstacles stop you from doing what is important. See more

01.01.2022 This weeks philosophy is pretty much what we should be doing now understanding what we need to do to stay safe. It is like Mother Earth has said you have been naughty go to your room until you understand what you have done wrong. If anyone is needing to talk or maybe a little bit of guidance with your practice please don’t hesitate to contact me I will be happy to help the best that I can do. WHAT IS UNDERSTANDING? Understanding is thinking clearly. It is using your mind so t...hat you can see the truth about things. It is paying careful attention and thinking about things in order to see their true/deeper meaning. Understanding is also having empathy and showing compassion. Understanding gives us the power to think and learn and also care. WHY PRACTICE IT? Without an understanding mind, there would be no learning. People who don't practice understanding don't use their minds fully. Life is dull and boring because they just do the least amount of learning and thinking. People, who use their heads to understand and solve problems, have great insights and wonderful ideas. People who use their hearts to understand show compassion and forgive people for their mistakes See more

01.01.2022 WHAT IS UNITY? Unity is when we come together with other individuals or groups to form something greater than any of us. For many people, the heart of spirituality is a sense of being part of something larger than ourselves, a unity or oneness with our fellow humans and with the vast and intricate Reality in which we have our existence. Unity is often built around a common purpose a harmony of interests or values that create a shared identity. When people are united by shar...ed values and goals, they can move together, synchronizing their efforts to attain things that none could attain alone. Unity is inclusive. It frees us from the divisiveness of prejudice. We see our commonality without devaluing our differences. A sense of unity can transcend our fear of each other. In unity, the joy of one is the joy of all, and the hurt of one is the hurt of all; the honor of one is the honor of all. WHY PRACTICE IT? Without unity, differences scare people and drive them apart. Without unity, each person stands alone. When we come together in unity, we cooperate. We work together to accomplish more than any one of us could by ourselves. We feel a sense of unity with all living things, and do our part to care for the earth. See more
