07.01.2022 The new edition of the Wiring Rules introduced additional requirements for final sub-circuit wiring for certain electrical equipment, including requirements for... safety switch protection and isolating switches. Replacing an item of electrical equipment (such as a stove or hot water system) under a like for like replacement where no alterations are made to existing installation wiring does not require the final sub-circuit supplying the equipment to be upgraded to the new requirements. However, any alteration to the final sub-circuit wiring, for example extending wiring to allow for a relocation, will require full compliance with the new requirements, including for safety switch protection and isolating switches. Like for like replacement only includes the replacement of electrical equipment where the current rating of the new item does not exceed the current rating of the circuit protection device and no alterations are needed to the installation wiring to effect the changeover.
