24.01.2022 Jervis Bay Shark Week: Volunteer Appreciation Post Jervis Bay Shark Week would not have happened if it weren't for a number of wonderful people who volunteered their time. Words cannot express our gratitude for all of their work and sacrifice throughout the week. Dannie An Matt Connolly from Loving the South Coast volunteered their time all week to capture some pretty amazing photos and videos of Jervis Bay Shark Week and we are grateful for all of their work. Sue Newson fro...m Crest Diving donated the hire of all of the gear for the snorkels, as well as her own time to supervise all of the snorkelling tours that we conducted. Thank you to our other snorkelling assistants and instructors who gave up their time to ensure that everyone had a safe and enjoyable time in the water (Nathan Bass, Paul Daniels, Lara Hindmarsh from Woe be Gone Freedive, Dagmar Parsons, Nick Osterloh and Graham Bass). Thank you to our kayak support crew and onshore crew for watching over us all (Martina Apps, Graham Bass, Jannene Bass and Sonya Newson). Thank you to Jannene Bass and her team of crafters (Colleen Butler, Graham Bass and Nathan Bass) for all of their work to make the kids arts and crafts activities such a great success. Thank you to local artist Mooo for painting and donating all of the rocks for the Sharks ROCK! Scavenger Hunt (Dame-Michelle Osborne Nixon). Thank you to Diana Auckett for preparing the questions and slides for the Trivia Night - it was a great success! Thank you to the Huskisson Community Centre and Club Jervis Bay for allowing us to host some of our events in their wonderful spaces. We would also like to thank Dolphin Watch Cruises - Jervis Bay, Jervis Bay Stand Up Paddle, Jervis Bay Kayak & Paddlesports Co and Crest Diving Jervis Bay for their donations of prizes for some of our Jervis Bay Shark Week activities! And to anyone else that I missed, thank you for your service throughout Jervis Bay Shark Week. This week would not have such a huge success if it weren't for all of your hard work and enthusiasm to help out with our activities! Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation and their contribution is never taken for granted. If you would like to get involved with organising or running our future programs or find out more about how you can help, send us a message or an email at [email protected]! #JBSharkWeek
22.01.2022 Jervis Bay Shark Week: Day 8 (Bonus Day) While the winds yesterday kept us out of the water, we still had a lot of sharky fun at our kids shark craft activity at the Huskisson Community Centre! The talented youngsters created string art, choosing their colours and wrapping it around the nails to create their sharks. While it was a bit tricky at times, persistance paid off and they were able to make some fantastic art. We have almost come to the end of Jervis Bay Shark Week for 2019. We have our last two snorkelling sessions down at Orion Beach today! We will be setup under a black marquee on the corner of Caroline Street and Twyford Street, so come down and say gday one last time and find out about the future plans for the JBMDRC! #JBSharkWeek
21.01.2022 Jervis Bay Shark Week: Day 7 What started off as a grey and rainy day yesterday turned out to be a great day of snorkelling with a bunch of awesome people! We came across lots of Port Jackson sharks, a couple of eastern fiddler rays, some stingarees and a smooth ray. We even came across a cheeky cuttlefish that made it into this mornings video! Last night, we also had a screening of a Port Jackson shark documentary made right here in Jervis Bay. While we only had a small turn...out, it was still a great night with some great discussions before and after the screening! The winds are up today and we have had to cancel our snorkelling tours. Thankfully, most of our snorkellers have been able to reschedule another snorkelling time and still get to meet the beautiful Port Jackson sharks. We do however have an awesome craft activity planned for kids this afternoon at 2pm at the Huskisson Community Centre. If you are interested in coming along to the shark craft activity, leave us a comment below or send a message to book your spot! #JBSharkWeek
17.01.2022 Jervis Bay Shark Week: Day 6 Yesterday was a perfect day to be out shark snorkelling! We found heaps of Port Jackson sharks resting all of the reef at Orion Beach - they were on the sand, under the ledges and even hiding in the kelp. We were pretty fortunate to find a couple of females in the process of laying the eggs. While we didnt witness the moment they laid, it was very cool to see the females exhibiting egg laying behaviours and beginning to see the eggs emerge! We als...o had another great craft activity which a bunch of great kids! Here are some photos of yesterday's shark art masterpieces! It looks like the rain has stopped this morning to make way for another two shark snorkels at Orion Beach! All of the spots are booked today, but there is still shark fun to be had tonight at our free documentary screening at 7pm at the Huskisson Community Centre. The film was shot here in Jervis Bay by Japan Underwater Films with our very own Sue Newson and focuses on the mystery of the Port Jackson shark eggs. Spaces will be limited to the documentary, so please send us a message to let us know if you are planning on coming along! #JBSharkWeek

04.01.2022 Jervis Bay Shark Week Colouring-in Competition Thank you to all of our entrants for the Jervis Bay Shark Week Colouring-in Competition! We loved seeing all of the different coloured Port Jackson sharks and loved some of the additions to the pictures as well. Congratulations to our three winners, who will be receiving an art pack and a crocheted Port Jackson shark made by the wonderfully talented Jannene Bass.
